Our four-year-old dog died—and we still cannot get factual answers from Bluecare
Our beautiful dog Chocolate was only four years old.
On Monday 24 August, we took him to Bluecare because of abnormal breathing. He was discharged post a short consultation. On Tuesday, he was readmitted as an emergency - picked up by another vet. By early Wednesday morning, he was dead.
My ten-year-old daughter and I arrived following Bluecare’s 06:41 telephone call, still unclear whether Chocolate had died or whether CPR was continuing. We were told at the door that he was dead.
We spent approximately 45 minutes saying goodbye to our beautiful boy. Despite my desperately demanding to know what had happened, no veterinarian involved in his overnight care, deterioration or CPR—and no senior veterinarian—came to speak to us. We left without any proper clinical explanation of how the dog we had been told was “stable” at approximately 23:00 had died only hours later.
Since then, I have repeatedly asked Bluecare for the facts contained in its own records: what happened during Monday’s consultation and discharge, what happened when he returned as an emergency, what monitoring and treatment he received overnight, when his condition became critical, why we were not contacted, and the precise chronology of his arrest, CPR and death.
We are not asking Bluecare to admit liability. I am not a veterinarian, which is precisely why I relied upon Bluecare’s expertise and why we need the clinic to explain what its own records show. We simply want an honest, complete factual account of what happened to our four-year-old boy.
Instead, Bluecare told me that its legal department would now handle everything. Ten days later, nobody from legal has contacted me. Bluecare has not provided a name, email address, telephone number or even a date by which we can expect a response. Management now refuses to answer our questions and says it cannot tell me when legal will contact me.
My daughter has lost her adored companion and best friend. I have lost my constant companion. We are grieving, traumatised and still do not understand what happened to him.
Passing a devastated family’s straightforward requests for facts to a legal department they cannot contact—and then leaving them in silence—has made an already unbearable situation even worse.
Bluecare and VetPartners: we just want answers about our boy. Please provide a named contact and a firm date for a complete factual response.
I will update this review accurately if and when we receive one.
