Its somewhat easy once you get past the original steps of signing up. If someone has difficulty with technology then they would have difficulty with this.

It definitely wasn't great!

It definitely wasn't great waiting for at least 2, probably closer to 3 hours, to get an associate that could not quite answer my questions or help me. The first person just blamed the IRS site, which wasn't the issue, which wasted a few hours of my time. The second person at least looked into what the issue was & without any explanation I was sent to dealing with the issue by email. At least that worked & a few more hours later I was able to gain access to the IRS site. Basically I find id.me to be a big hassle that kept me from accessing my IRS account for months, although it's supposed to do just the opposite. It's really frustrating that this is the best that the US government can do. I definitely don't trust id.me and wish that you didn't have to use it to gain access to government web sites. Total waste of my time!

I am not convinced that this site is secure

This company provides 'secure' identification to the IRS, and is the ONLY way to file taxes electronically by using the PIN it gives you. It's URL is not standard and lacks the security we all trust when the URL begins with the "https" secure socket. With the social security administration the customer/citizen has the choice of login.gov or ID.me. Not so with IRS.

Additionally, the site requires a user to simultaneously use their cell phone AND their computer to set up an IRS account for e-filing.

I called my tax preparer, who uses this system, and they had the https prefix in their browser link, and I did not have it in my browser link. Why, and more importantly, HOW, can this be the case and ALSO be secure.

I don't trust that I did the right thing by completing this process, although I did succeed in creating my IRS connection. How many third parties also have my information is anyone's guess.

INSANE verification process

It take so much effort to verify yourself...video selfies, video calls, etc. Then, once you've already done all of it, had your information verified, for random reasons it will stop working and you have to do it all again. It is INSANE.

Clumsy and ill-conceived

Whole site seemed clumsy and ill-conceived. I would not recommend using this unless there is no other option and it is required in order to accomplish a critical task.

What a joke. Definitely not user friendly. Only the government would have a process to sign up like this!

Completely useless website for my issue. No human being to talk to. The IRS says they need my new banking information, but I haven't changed banks in over 15 years. ID.me is completely incompetent and now I will get in trouble because they are morons.

An hour to get user ID and Password!

It took over an hour for me to finally gain access to the IRS website. Not sure I’ll be able to again. Lots of questions without explaining what the info will mean the next time I try to log in.
