Its somewhat easy once you get past the original steps of signing up. If someone has difficulty with technology then they would have difficulty with this.

3 hour wait time

3 hour wait time

Tried multiple times to verify. It wouldn't work, but it wouldn't tell me why. Tried to get me to use a different phone number. Then made me sign up for a video call. Waited two weeks before they sent me a link to get on the video call. Clicked the link and said it would be an hour and a half long wait. Wound up being over 3 hours.

The lady I talked to was super nice and went quickly once I was on the phone.

Use of ID.me

I had to use ID.me initially to conduct business with the Department of Motor Vehicles in the state of CA. I don't remember if there were other options presented at that time because many years have passed. Since then, ID.me is used by more and more agencies, federal and otherwise. The initial set-up may have been a little difficult to do, but now that it's in place, I have had little trouble entering into sites that require it.

Easy to use!

This service was easy to use, it quickly uploaded my documentation. It provided a video selfie that quickly identified me, matching my face with my picture ID state drivers license. It then took me immediately to the .gov SSN site where I could continue my process.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME adding their extension for purchases. You'll have to deal with the endless volume of annoying pop-ups. I've been making a TON of online purchases in recent weeks since installing it, and I haven't seen a SINGLE PENNY hit my ID.me account. Additionally, they just sent me a survey asking about my satisfaction using ID.me, and the dumbasses in charge of putting it together repeated questions and asked irrelevant ones - including whether or not I was satisfied using ID.me for a purchase I made "today" when I haven't made even a single purchase yet TODAY.
There's a phrase from the movie, "All Dogs Go To Heaven" that applies here:
"MORONS!! I'm surrounded by MORONS!!!!"

I thought I knew BAD customer service, till ID.me

The website wouldn't let me download the necessary documents and when i tried to live chat customer service, well.... lmao! You'll hold, and hold and HOOOLLD, then they'll end the chat and sometimes we try again cause we didn't learn the first time🤷🏼‍♀️. Any company that gives you a invalid customer service phone number on Google is USELESS if you need help. Please learn from me and don't waist your time. ALOHA

Restricted 2FA support, buggy software, poor support

Every step was painful and they only allow 2FA via TOTP on their own app which was buggy and crashes frequently for as simple as it should be. I doubt it survives any updates and then you will be locked out of your account. Didn't accept either of my phone numbers as a backup method for 2FA. Still haven't gotten a call for verifying my identity days later.

Difficult and Frustrating

This is a service for those who are comfortable and at ease with digital technology. If you are not, it is a frustrating product/service to use. The instructions provided are so minimal as to be almost useless.

Made a government website usable

I used ID.me to set up an account on a government website recently and found the process detailed but easy.

The process worked perfectly including handoffs between my Mac and iPhone for various steps. That was pleasantly surprising.

It created the best experience I’ve ever had on a government website.

The Worst Customer Support Ever! Plus a CATCH-22

If you want to chat with an agent to verify your id to access your IRS account, the wait is 30 minutes or longer, and you have to click on "I'm here" every 10 minutes or so. Finally, I received a link for a video call, which announces that an agent will be with you in 5 minutes. Well, 2 hours later, I'm still waiting for the host to join the call, and every 15 minutes, I have to rejoin the video call. Does that bump me farther down the line? Who knows? Self service did not work for me, because one of my verifying phone numbers is a landline that doesn't accept texts; and although receiving a phone call is claimed to be an option, it is not -- I think when I choose the phone call, the company just sends a text. Crazy! Furthermore, when I was trying all this a few days ago, trying a dozen times, the verification codes I received started to look familiar. At least one was the exact same number I had been sent earlier! How can that be secure?? ID.me has horrible customer support -- the worst I've ever encountered. It looks like I may never be able to access my IRS account ever again.

Quick, easy and secure

This service is thorough but still pretty fast. It was easy to upload documents and to verify my identity and I feel safe with them having my info because they have a fantastic reputation. I'd definitely recommend ID.me to anyone who needs a way to safely sign in to government agencies.
