Used to love I could get Scandinavian…

Used to love I could get Scandinavian stuff from my childhood from IKEA. Traditional foods and Christmas iteams. Wide range of candles. But it's lost it's Scandinavian roots and feel. Will stop going now.

Poor quality- HANSBYN worktop finishing strip

Hi, we ordered a kitchen from Ikea Italy for our new home. Since we needed it urgently, we had to choose the HANSBYN worktop finishing strip material that was in stock, not our first choice. The kitchen was installed in May 2025 and, when excluding our summer holiday, has only been used for about 1.5–2 months. By August, the HANSBYN skirting already showed black stains, which started behind the sink and are now spreading even towards the side without the sink. We contacted Ikea customer service, sent the requested photos and videos, but by October there is still no reply or solution. It’s a kitchen countertop and contact with water is inevitable. My concern is that the same material is used for the countertop itself, and the rot could spread further. I strongly advise future buyers to avoid the HANSBYN material. Ikea customer service, if you are reading this, please address this issue urgently before it worsens please. (Order no: 1515186826)

Installation Delay

I ordered (Order No: 2004258723) a shower set from IKEA Saudi Arabia on September 16th, which was finally delivered 10 days later on September 26th. At the time of purchase, I explicitly selected the installation and assembly service option. However, the delivery team simply left the item at my location and informed me that they would not perform any installation. I then had to call the IKEA center again and was only able to secure an assembly appointment for October 5th. This is completely unacceptable—having to wait an additional 10 days due to their error is not reasonable, and it reinforces why IKEA in Saudi Arabia has the worst service.

If I could give them no stars I would!

If I could give them no stars I would. Ordered and paid for sofa to be delivered. Then arranged for assemble twice. Two failed deliveries and no communication from IKEA. I’ve now cancelled the order and the refund will take around 7-14 days. I wish I’d read other reviews before ordering a large item of furniture from them.

NEVER ORDER FROM IKEA

Ordered wall units, the chipboard started falling off as soon as I touched them. Arranged to send them back. Total farce with the return due to "system isssues" wasn't collected TWICE although I took time off work. Collected 8th September, no confirmation received. Just called IKEA AGAIN, apparently the delivery company SWIFT hasn't taken it back to IKEA, so now IKEA have to charge SWIFT and then I get my refund...another 2wk wait. My complaint 49860224 was apparently resolved without even speaking to me. I do NOT want £100 of IKEA vouchers thanks very much as I am NEVER ordering from you again. I want compensation. I suggest you call me ASAP. Update...they called me, will only give me voucher and not increasing it, so i'm taking them to small claims court. I'll keep you posted !
As you can see from the GENERIC response below, they don't listen...I clearly stated it was about a RETURN and I have already raised a complaint with IKEA UK, which was resolved without even talking to me !!! I will see you in court.

Order no: 1547428489. I had an item delivered by IKEA. I paid £40 for the delivery service which included to 'a room of your choice,' (including upstairs) because I needed them to take it up the stairs for me. My stairs are completely clear and accessible).
I am waiting for surgery on my leg, and live alone so this aspect of the delivery was important.
The driver said he couldn't take the item upstairs because they have no insurance to do so. I explained that I could not carry it upstairs in my situation. He told me to unbox the item and take it up piece by piece. It has long, heavy pieces, two glass doors and I can barely walk.

Update - Resolved. Belfast Store Manager confirmed I had indeed paid £40 for delivery to a room of choice including upstairs. He sent three, lovely guys to carry the item upstairs. Thank you

1st Class Customer Service

This is a follow up review on the one I left last week when I only gave IKEA 1 star. Since then, I had the pleasure of speaking with Maddie in the customer service contact centre and she went over and above to help. Maddie was friendly, polite, knowledgeable and helpful. Disappointed... such a shame

After 10 years of not doing a big purchase in ikea, I'm so sorry to find the quality of the service going down like this.
We just bought a kids bed with a desk. Many screws were missing. The costumer service in Amsterdam is slow and doesn't know how to help for something so simple. Which leaves matters to be solved by calling, texting, waiting.... I don't find it worth it. I think from now on we will only consider ikea for small purchases that don't require any kind of logistics.

ORDER NOT RECEIVED

I made a big purchase from Milano San Giuliano store on 5 September. On 12 September, part of my delivery came with Rhenus Logistics, they made me sign the document and told me that the couch I ordered was on its way with the next vehicle which would arrive ASAP. It did not arrive on that day, I called the delivery person, he told me then they would transfer it the next day for sure, then of course it did not arrive, and today is the next Monday that I’m still waiting for the couch.
I called IKEA 4 times from Saturday until today, they did not do a single thing, they tried calling their logistics partners and emailed them from the same number and email I used (very obvious that they don’t answer no one), and I am still waiting for a delivery. IKEA can’t even solve the problem with their own logistics partner and they have been very unsuccessful in this purchase. I have been in a very hard time (still am) and if I could give IKEA and their partner Rhenus Logistics -5 starts each I would.

What a shame seeing the “best” houseware company in this figure.

Happy…

Ikea delivered on time and their drivers were super helpful. We were missing a part in our box, the call handler is sending a replacement straight out. Great service! I've had so many companies not sending on time, ao delivery driver drove past and didn't stop as were on a one way street! (Like that's a reason not to deliver!) Yet ikeas happy drivers delivered like pros! Thank you!

Checkouts not card and cash as they say.

I queued for ages at a self check out for one item. I struggle with knee and back issues so was already in agony. I stood for ages in the queue and when I got to the front even though the sign above said card and cash she said they were card only. I needed to pay cash as I have to get my money back from Petty cash at work and they won't accept it if its paid for by card. I didn't have the energy or pain threshold to stand there any longer as the queues were massive. So ended up paying by card so won't get my money back now. I wasn't the only one this happened to as after I heard others complaining about it. Ikea Birstall sort yourselves out 🤬🤬🤬🤬

I paid for express delivery,the website…

I paid for express delivery,the website said it would deliver the next day ,which is when I needed it for .we are having having building works done and it needed to be assembled today. I was told my delivery slot would be sometime around 7am -11am . I had to re-arrange my whole day today for the delivery. Got up early ,waited around till 11am . No delivery turned up. I was told by an IKEA representative over the phone,that the delivery slots were all booked up for today, even though the website gave me today to deliver,I had booked and paid for it. It's false advertising

It's caused me a great deal of stress and inconvenience ,not just for me ,for others
None of us are happy with IKEA

It also took about 6 attempts to put the transaction through for the order,which went over 2 days,as there was an issue on the website accepting my visa and had nothing to do with bank nor visa apparently

I have wasted a great deal of time, approx 6-7hours. When I called regarding the failure to deliver the items I was told there is no compensation and complaint wouldn't lead to anything .It is not good enough! It seems they don't care about their customers

Customer Service is a waste of time

I collected my desk in store on 26 August. At the start of assembly, it became clear that the desktop was damaged. On calling customer care I was assured by your that a replacement desktop would be delivered Tuesday.

However, this did not happen. I contacted IKEA on three further occasions and was told each time that the new desktop would be arranged, but no delivery was made.

On my most recent call, on 3 September, I was informed that IKEA would not be able to replace the desktop, and instead I would have to dismantle the desk myself, return it, and wait for a full replacement.

This is not what was promised to me during my previous three customer support calls. Each time, I was assured that the missing desktop would be delivered and installed, not that I would have to dismantle the desk and start the process again.

The entire experience has been extremely frustrating. Customer service has been time-consuming and unhelpful, with calls lasting over 20 minutes each time. On one occasion, I was transferred to another department, only to be disconnected and forced to start again.

I would like IKEA to urgently resolve this matter by honouring the original commitment: delivering the damaged desktop without requiring me to dismantle the existing structure.

Opted for IKEA Catania over local…

Opted for IKEA Catania over local Italian shops because as it's a massive international company we expected professionalism and courtesy. What an awful decision, how wrong we were.

Ordered a kitchen and other furniture for our new house, half of it arrived with the rest due to be delivered when in stock. After waiting weeks finally the items were in stock and we were given a delivery date. Which was then changed a number of times. Eventually a date was fixed and we closed our own shop to wait. And wait we did but no delivery. Our tracking was then updated with another date and again, we took the time off to wait. No delivery. No contact from delivery guys or IKEA. This process was repeated a couple more times until we recieved a phone call from IKEA. All details confirmed and we were given a new date. As before it was a no show. We called IKEA and they told us that the driver had tried to call, but was unable to get through. The number they apparently tried to call has nothing to do with us. And it's so odd that they had this mysterious wrong number as IKEA had called the correct number only a few days before.
Another new delivery date fixed for today. Surprise surprise, Again a no show. We called during the delivery window, spoke to an agent who put us on hold to contact the delivery and strangely after 8 minutes our call was dropped. Called back, new agent told us that the original agent would call us back. No call back.
We are going to take this further with the relevant Italian consumer agency as we are being ripped off and messed around. We have paid for products and services in advance and have received neither and have nothing to show but a half built kitchen. The company has serious failings in multiple areas. Appalling way to treat customer. I advise everyone to steer clear of IKEA.

Dreadful store Dreadful service

Went to Ikea Thurrock today, decided to get something to eat BIG mistake, there was not a long queue but we had to wait 25 minites to be served, one server working and one till, i counted 10 members of staff behind the counter and instead of clearing the queues they opened up the other serving side and those at the back of the queue were served before those waiting, the server did not understand the order, and missed items, could not be bothered to go araound again. I get throught market place and one till was open having to waiting another 25 minutes to be served again loads of staff hanging around doing nothing. WILL NOT be going back to the Thurrock branch.....dreadful service, dreadful store.

Missing stock going on 7 weeks

Just bewildered. Having purchased a kitchen with the guidance that the missing items would be back in stock within 2 weeks maximum...I am now 7 weeks and no stock. I have called several times, nothing that can be done, no escalation and my fault apparently. No way to complain and terrible customer service. Just mindblown! Terrible way of treating a customer and also felt it was all to secure the sale, forcing the customer to deal with it after.

Absolutely ridiculous

Absolutely ridiculous, awful services I attended an IKEA showroom ordered over £2000 worth of bedroom furniture selected a date and time for delivery paid my delivery charge received confirmation the day before for my date and time of delivery as previously discussed took the whole day off work waiting for my delivery to find out it was delayed by five days because it was still awaiting picking in the factory even though they had already had six days to sort this order absolutely ridiculous. Avoid this company at all costs customer services a complete waste of space.

Fabric lets it down

Bought some green velvet L shaped sofas from ikea. Such a shame as they are beautiful and comfortable but they mark so easily. Not a good fabric and stains when you wipe it with water.

The worst experience we've ever had with any company!!

Saw a kitchen i liked and went to the specific kitchen place in Preston for a quote (it's now a kitchen & wardrobe only Ikea). Several months later, when we were ready we decided to go ahead. Went over and sat for 2 hours while the lady designed a kitchen that she had already had the details for for ages (could have done this before we arrived as we just sat there... not being spoken to much at all). We set up the finance for 50% but when we wanted to pay over the phone for the other 50% up front we were told that we needed to come into the store as we couldn't do it over the phone (over an hours drive). My husband drove over after a long days work to be told her would "have to come back tomorrow" as the person who could take the payment wasn't here - great - no apology or anything and no call to let us know not to bother coming. This was just the beginining and we should have known at this point at would be a complete shambles but i really liked the kitchen. We eventually managed to order it, a few things were out of stock and the kitchen was being discontinued but the lady reassured us that it would be fine and that worst case scenario they could use ex display pieces - but there shouldn't be any need for that. We booked the day off work (2 of us) to receive the order and booked our kitchen fitter for the following day. We were given a time slot that it would arrive before 11am. 11:15am and no kitchen arrived. There is no way of calling the shop or contacting the person you're dealing with so you can either email the specific person (if they are not in for 2 weeks then good luck!) or you can ring the general customer service number. We emailed and i went on hold to customer service for 45 minutes waiting to have my call answered. When someone answered (a lady) she wasn't confident, kept correcting herself etc. By now the kitchen was well over an hour late and we'd recieved an email back stating that the order hadn't gone out "leave it with me" - Leave it with me??? no apology and we were just left waiting having taken a day off work. We had to cancel the kitchen fitter at that point but we still had to pay him for the short notice. Meanwhile, the lady on the phone said "i'm really sorry but it looks like the kitchen hasn't gone out for delivery." Of course i replied with "why no call to let us know? we've taken the day off work, we have to pay the fitter - etc." The phone then went dead... she'd hung up!! I couldn't believe it... i was fuming! I then felt that i had no choice having heard nothing back by email, to call again. This time it took over an hour to get through. The lady was slightly more helpful. She told us that our delivery date had been moved on a week. I explained that this was no good as we couldn't take more time off work. We arranged another day when one of us was off anyway. My husband and I chatted about how we were not confident as the reason for the hold up seemed to be that 3 things were out of stock so the whole order was held back. After all the rearrurance that this wouldn't happen we were concerned - especially as it was doors and drawer fronts. I had little confidence that the whole order would be present and correct when it arrived (if it arrived) and if the fitter began to fit it they wouldn't take it back and we could be sat with doors and drawer fronts missing. We made the decision to cancel. Well.... this was another complete farce. Tried to cancel online. As the order was broken down into 3 separate orders i could cancel one online - the smallest one. Back onto customer services. Another hour waiting. The lady assured me that she had cancelled the orders. Fast forward 7 days; Ikea still have around £4000 of our money, they havent provided a single thing in return and they take another £140 from the bank!! Email to the shop; nothing, she said to contact Ikea Finance (can't remember the name off the top of my head). They said that the account was still showing in debt so they couldn't refund!!! In debt!! How the heck is that event possible when we gave them £4000 up front?? Back onto customer services waiting another hour to get through. Then Corey to the resuce (he is the only person in the whole of our experience who has been of any use at all) - he put everything through and we were refunded our £4000 within 5 days as he promised. 2 weeks later we got our £140 back.

This experience has been the worst experience i've ever had with a company. We are still out of pocket for the fitter (and the annual leave) which they refuse to refund. Lesson learned - read trust pilot in future!!

To add - The lady at Ikea told us that a laminate worktop would be fine with a belfast style sink but we've since found out the it would have lasted 2 minutes. When we went else where we were also informed that there was no need for all the "filler pieces" that the lady at Ikea added and the new kitchen design then had space for more storage etc.

Unsatisfactory product quality

Bought roasting tins, used them, however a discoloration of the product which fails removal, can pose risk to health. Returned the items, and albeit the evidence obvious, IKEA opted to inform that is how stainless steel is. The staff (frontline supervisor David) was rude, had no duty of care to maintain dignity and respect in verbal interactions, whilst he reiterated 'his position of power'. My items were in date of the receipt, and had I not used the items the issue would not have been identified. I requested a full refund on the basis of the quality and significant change in the items, but this was flatly refused giving me vouchers to impose upon me a store purchase. The items require replacement, and it is draconian and unfair to have an expectation for me to purchase alternatives when there was a genuine issue with the items. I am significantly dissatisfied with the customer service and product quality.
