A completely useless "tax software" it is much quicker to file by paper. Even getting started is almost impossible. There is ZERO support (not even a pretend effort is made). So it's basically an online printout of the income tax return form, where you have to pay to access anything beyond the basics (even without help). Of course this is free in the paper version. and there is NO OPTION to ask questions before purchasing

As I began my search for a trustworthy tax filing service, I couldn't help but stumble upon Intuit TurboTax, a popular tax software provider. While it's widely recognized, I've discovered several alarming issues that I believe prospective users should be aware of before making their decision.

To begin with, Intuit has been known to lobby politicians to prevent the creation of a free, government-run tax filing system in the United States. This is a stark contrast to the tax filing process in most other first-world countries, where citizens can file their taxes directly on government websites, without cost. It's clear that Intuit's primary concern is preserving its profits rather than providing a service that benefits the American public.

Furthermore, TurboTax advertises its "free" tax filing service, which, in reality, is anything but. The platform is designed with dark patterns, making it nearly impossible for the average American to navigate the system and file their taxes without eventually being pushed towards paid options. This misleading marketing tactic leaves users feeling cheated and frustrated.

My personal experience with TurboTax was a disheartening one. After switching to a different tax filing service, I started receiving an additional $800 in tax refunds, despite my income remaining the same. This substantial difference raises concerns about the behind-the-scenes practices at Intuit and whether they have their customers' best interests at heart.

In conclusion, I cannot recommend Intuit TurboTax as a reliable or ethical tax filing service. Their lobbying efforts to block free government tax filing, misleading "free" filing advertisements, and questionable business practices have left me deeply disappointed. There are better alternatives available, and I urge anyone considering TurboTax to explore other options for a more transparent and trustworthy tax filing experience.

The TurboTax phone support is terrible. The agents do not know how to use the program and try to get help from other agents that are no better. I have spent hours on the phone trying to get help with inputting CCA on form T776. Called 4 time with no knowledgeable agent to be found. For very basic returns returns it may be ok but you need to be tax accounting knowledgeable. Help center is Complete waist of time.

The service is ok. But they keep tricking you to pay for extra services you don't need. They made me pay for something I did not need. When I tried to contact them, it was literally impossible because I don't have a US phone number anymore. There are no other ways to contact them.

I have used Turbo with Live chat 4 ,4 good years. This year it was way more difficult. When I said that , to live chat - she said , "every ones saying that ! " Yeah. I downloaded my broker st. to turbo , but yet for the 1st time, in 4 years , it started asking questions from it ! ITS DOWNLOADED ! Why any querys ? Other questions were much harder for me and the live chat as well. I complained and she said ,"we can do the return for you for $400 " ! I paid $200 last year. Ah , no . They want to ratchet everyone up to a higher level of cost. I said ," I need a rest now "and hung up. The resting period is going to be permanent !

To be clear I did not actually file a return with Turbo tax but I would like to share some information. I am an expat. Turbo tax staates they are suitable for expats. As I worked my way through providing the information it seemed that they did not address some concerns unique to expats, but after researching online I completed the form. You can't ask a question on the site unless you pay for it. I proceed to pay and discover that they will NOT accept a credit card with foreign address. I bailed. Good thing too, because I discovered Expatfile, and though more costly, they were tailored to my needs,

Just as cheap to have a professional do your tax’s. Total rip off. Got all the way to the end and the system wouldn’t let my tax’s file. I have to try again in a couple days because their system isn’t working properly.

I have used TurboTax since it came out and always liked it until 3 years ago when I was unable to file my taxes. Had to print and mail. This year was even worse. I had every code and number required, but it was sent back because my PIN for my Colorado taxes was incorrect. The only time I have been in Colorado is at the Denver airport to change planes. Forget help-there is NO such thing. I finally, after 4 tries, printed and mailed it in for the 4th time. H&R Block I'm coming. Can't be any worse than TerribleTax

They were not to get paid until refund was issued. That's a lie. Wont do anything to assist in getting return. Complete rip off

Avoid at all costs... pretty much stole my money, and then made me waste an entire day trying to get the money back. They charged me to file my taxes, but then when I pressed the button to submit them, their system wouldn't let me file them... I spent over an hour with tech support trying to fix this, and in the end they had me submit an online refund form, which I then did... unfortunately, a couple hours later, I was told (via an automated email) that I don't qualify for a refund, since even though it is broken, my paying for it means I approve of their product, even through there was no way to know it was broken before trying it. It should be criminal to sell nothing for something, but they seem to get away with it... avoid at all costs... Turbotax stole my money

They incorrectly calculated my refund! Getting $0 back. Very disappointed, I will never use this outfit again.

Not only is it ridiculous that the IRS already knows exactly what we need to owe for taxes, they make us pay to figure it out! If you all are ready to stand up against this, I recommend you contact your local congressman! Anyways, directly about this company LOL.... So, after spending almost two and a half months to figure out their complex software for my situation, with no help from them as well, and then paying $160, finally getting it all done, their website wouldn't let me fully complete and file my taxes. So, I've wasted 2 months already and now I'm on hold for 3 hours before I finally talk to a human who did absolutely nothing for me. I laighed on them after they hung up on me, went back to the site, tried it again... The very extremely rude lady that hung up on me, they said I needed two devices, that might be a problem for you as it was for me! Wish they would say that on their website lol after you pay as much money to get this dookie done right? Anyways, I digress cuz I'm so upset and angry with this crap, it's deeper than just this company. It's systemic in our nation and we all need to stand up. Time to fight! For your right! Don't let the tyranny of establishments like this have control over you.

At the end of the day, I was able to do it, but I had to figure it out on my own. So unless you really know what's going on, don't waste your time with this company. They just don't care. I didn't file with them for years because h&r block was always more expensive, but they were always more helping and kind. I guess you get what you pay for these days!

Oh, totally "free", till you go to file. Then I would have to pay half my tax refund for the "privilege" of filing ... NEW this year!

I’ve been fighting to file my taxes for several weeks I was using TurboTax and my taxes kept getting rejected and rejected. TurboTax to that I owed money I did not TurboTax made us upgrade to finish our taxes because it said owed money and we did and we paid the $39 upgrade because TurboTax made us pay it and they subsequently cannot file our taxes and now they refuse to pay us the $39 upgrade that we could never even use no one ever helped us. I have filed my taxes with the IRS I do not owe any money and it wasn’t rejected. I feel like I was taken literally to the cleaners by TurboTax for their upgrades and saying that you could e-file for free when they don’t offer any help whatsoever when they make you make you upgrade. I’ve tried to receive a refund and they told me that they don’t refund on a 60 day moneyback guarantee because I didn’t buy their software and I used my mobile app. I hope other people are very much aware or I hope to let this be a warning to anyone else trying to use TurboTax don’t run really fast away from them

I have used Turbo Tax for years and I am usually satisfied. I filed a 1099 this year and was surprised to see the fees attached for this service. I could have used a totally free tax filing provider. Especially in these hard times. Next year I will use a different company.

they used to be really good, last year i didn’t get my refund until almost september. the only negative experience i’ve ever had with them. their customer service has always been a joke but the product is solid. still would recommend a dyslexic monkey do your taxes rather than get help from one of their ‘experts’ been 12 years and no audit yet though! doing something right

Completed my return, paid and printed it. After which I found Turbo Tax had mis-calculated both my Gross Income and Taxable Income. After going thru a half-dozen "Experts" some of whom agreed the Return was in fact wrong, but had no way to correct it or refund my money. One "Expert" didn't know their Csutomer Service contact info.
And as it turned out - I didn't even need to file a return - but they were happy to take my money anyway. No way to contact anything like customer service.
I have filed a dispute/chargeback thru my card issuer. Little hope but I'll see. Recommend all to raise a dispute with your card issuer on basis of "Goods or Services Not As Expected". Really a shame they can't improve their service model.

Worst customer service by the miss Suave (suppose that’s her real name) I just call her to very some email and she didn’t even let me talk and being rude. I call like at 2:20 and by the time I talk to her was at 2:28. I don’t know why there are people like this working on customer service…

While the product does a good job, the support is horrendous. The company has no provision for bug reporting. Calling a so called expert does not help because they are clueless about the technical detail of the program. They may be able to help with tax questions but if you need tech support you are screwed. If anyone in Turbotax read these reviews, one thing you need is an email where customers can email support questions.

Waste of time! Representative sounded like I woke her up and could not follow my questions or provide answers. It was the worst experience I have ever had with a representative. Just waisted my time!
