I wanted to try Inov8 for a long time. Supporting British brands is somewhat important to me. I thought I would "dip my toe in the water" with the TrailFly Max V2 as I run long. My thought process was that if I get on with them, I will invest in some MudTalons as the deep lugs are very appealing for winter running in the UK and deeper than my current winter shoes. I am very disappointed with the TrailFlys. They run really hot and feel more like a GoreTex shoe. Whilst the cushioning is good and the energy return from the foam is also good, the heel design does not suit my feet at all. I use locking laces and no matter how tight I tie them, the shoe does not feel secure. It's taken me about 20K in them to realise that it's not about adjustment or breaking in. They just don't work for me. I am a bit gutted and would return them if I could.

The V2 of the Trail fly Max has been a revelation....loved it! Firmer ride than the original but that improves responsiveness and return. You feel much more in touch with the trail but in a way that has not impacted on my knees ( I'm 63 sothis is important) . So, very pleased! Oh and build quality and resilience looks great!

I recently received my first pair of TrailFly Max V2. I have run and hiked for years in the original version with standard width. I was surprised when I opened the box about how narrow the toe box appeared. It felt that way walking around the house. I wasn’t sure they would work but I tried first a walk and then a run in foothills. They work better than I expected and are serviceable. I sometimes get a little rubbing on the top of one foot if I lace too tightly. For me they are not an optimal fit hence the rating. I would like to try a wide but there are no retail options near me.

Immediately felt comfortable. First run was just under 8 miles. Mix of fields, tracks and the odd lane. Felt great 👍

Very comfortable and supportive, would recommend if you are looking for a lightweight but durable shoe. I would say they are ideal for trail / road / hikes for comfort and grip. Not a racing shoe for distances below 5k.

I bought the Trailfly Max V2 shoes to complement the Trailtalon shoes I already have so I can decide which shoes best suit the conditions for any events. I have relatively wide forefeet so opted to size up half a size and go for a wide fit and have to say the fit of the Trailfly Max V2 really suits my foot shape (I had to use a runner's loop for the Trailtalons but there's no heel slippage with the Trailflys). Having worn these for 2 runs, covering almost 30 miles, I've been impressed with the feel and the grip. The grip on wet pebble dash pavement is exceptional and even on today's run in snow and ice there were only a couple of occasions where I felt I was slipping. I've not had a chance to test them in any deep mud but that is what I have the Trailtalons for. So overall I'm impressed and, unless conditions are particularly wet, I suspect these will be the shoes I'll rely on for this year's ultra in the peak district.
