Spent over £33 charging at the pavilion…

Spent over £33 charging at the pavilion square, scarborough chargers only to be hit with a £100 parking fine, absolute daylight robbery!

Thank you for your review, we are sorry to hear that you’ve received a parking fine whilst using our chargers at Pavilion Square

Unfortunately, the parking restrictions are managed by a 3rd party, which means that the existing parking restrictions still apply to customers even when using our charging stations. Our signage in between the chargers states that existing parking restrictions still apply, and this is also outlined on the app. There should also be signage installed by the car park operators that details the specific restrictions.

Having said this, we appreciate the inconvenience caused by this fine and can create a proof of charge document that you can use to help with your appeal. If you would like us to provide this for you please can you provide the time, date and cost of your charging session, and a copy of the fine if possible to info@instavolt.co.uk.

Hello Darren,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your payment query. 

When you initiate a charge via a card, a pre-authorisation fee of £15.00 or £45.00 (depending on the charger model) will be reserved on your card. This will be taken each time you tap your card to try to start a charge and is intended to validate the payment card and ensure that sufficient funds exist to complete a transaction. Depending on who you bank with you may see these as pending transactions or they will appear to have been taken from your account. 

If the charge was successful, the pre-authorisation amount will be cancelled and replaced with the actual amount you were charged for the electricity received. If your charge was unsuccessful, the amount will be returned automatically. All pre-authorisation amounts are released automatically by InstaVolt; depending on who you bank with, it may take 5-10 working days (or sooner) to reflect this.

If you use our chargers regularly and would like to work around the pre-authorisation fees, you could download our app and use it to start a charging session. As your payment card is already authenticated on the app, no pre-authorisation fees get taken when you charge via this method.

£20 to change my card?

Until now I've always found it easy (if a bit expensive) to charge with Instavolt using the app. Now, though, my card has expired, and for some reason Instavolt wants to charge me £20 to change my card. I guess I'd get this back when I charge again, but there's no guarantee I'll be using their chargers again. So that's goodbye to the Instavolt app from me.

In response to your reply: There is absolutely no need to debit £20 from the linked bank account to verify a payment card. That's just ludicrous and frankly a bit scammy. Your chargers are fine and work well, as does your app, so I don't understand why you'd want to engage in such petty money grabbing. It's really disappointing behaviour.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your payment query.  

Please note, that when you add a payment card to a credit account on the app, £20.00 is taken from your linked bank account to validate your payment card. If you haven’t used the account to charge in over a month, you’ll need to re-validate the card by authorising a £1.00 transaction.

Validation amounts are then added to your app account balance and will be automatically put towards the cost of your charging session, or you can withdraw them back to your bank account by going into ‘payment’ and then ‘Withdraw Funds’.

The problem I have is that the parking…

The problem I have is that the parking spaces are too small and my car has to be parked backwards which makes it extremely hard for me to get to the charging area and the payment machine.
I am disabled and although I can walk a bit I have to use a walking frame which means it is extremely difficult to get to the machine to pay. I feel unsteady because the machine is up a step which I struggle with. If anyone needed to charge their car and they were confined to a wheelchair they would not be able to do it and not everyone needs a carer. Some people want to remain to independent .
Another problem is the plug in cable is extremely heavy and difficult to move. I don’t have anybody who can charge the car for me as my family live abroad and my housing association won’t let me have a charger at home as the cable needs to cross a path and I can’t afford to pay for that so I have to use a public charger. The one I use is a shops car park and the charging stations are the fur to heat away they could possibly be which again makes it a hard walk for the disabled.

As a business we are aware of the challenges that some of the current charging infrastructure creates with regards to accessibility. We’re taking our responsibility seriously and have a dedicated InstaVolt Accessibility Team who are reviewing sites at design stage, to ensure accessibility provisions are added where possible. Where feasible, InstaVolt are actioning many changes across the network, including updated designs to provide additional space around charger bays, removal of wheel stops for future sites and an updated charger design that includes lower screens/ payment terminals and a new cable management system for easier manoeuvrability. These changes are taking effect across the network now and can be seen in recent site activations.

Whilst we are always looking to improve our network offering, there are other challenges we have to consider, such as landowners space allocation, where there is insufficient space to provide wider charging bays. Whilst there is no straight forward answer, we are continuing to explore all options to make charging more accessible where we face these constraints.

Expensive and largely useless

I use so many different chargers but predominantly Tesla Super Chargers. They are a breeze and most others are too but InstaVolt is always a problem. The customers services isn’t much better. It’s just pot luck if you get one that’s working and then if it is it’s so overpriced I should just take a taxi everywhere.

My advice, use IONITY, Tesla or any other one really.

When a customer starts a charging session using a bank card, a £45.00 pre-authorisation fee is temporarily held to validate the payment method. This is automatically released by InstaVolt but can sometimes take longer for the your bank to process these. It can sometimes take 5–10 working days, although is often much quicker.

Scandalous company took 45 pounds and kicked me off machine after £1.45 worth of electricity leaving me stranded in breen 115 miles away from my home in Birmingham, don’t use this company if you can get your electricity somewhere else

Disgustingly Unprofessional – Avoid This Company

By far the rudest HR/Hiring team experience I’ve ever had. The interviewer (Rachel) opened the call with, ‘You won’t get much from this call but if you’re successful we’ll let you know,’ immediately setting a tone of disinterest, dismissal, and unprofessionalism.

When I explained that I had tried to research the company but their website kept freezing, I was met with rudeness instead of understanding: ‘You’ve had all weekend,’ ‘You didn’t check on a phone,’ and finally ‘Well it works for me.’ I even provided screenshots to prove the site wasn’t working. Her response? She said there was no point continuing and ended the call on me — disgustingly unprofessional.

If this is how they treat candidates making an effort, it says everything about their culture and values. Completely unprofessional, condescending, and a terrible reflection of the company. I wouldn’t advise anyone to apply here if this interview is at all representative of their culture or working environment.
