Threatened with legal action over a simple mistake

Edit 29/03/2025: I ended up paying the fee to avoid any legal action. Made multiple attempts to contact ITR to discuss this issue but I was ignored. I can see Graham has replied to other bad reviews here on 18/03/2025 yet mine was ignored. Not a very customer focused customer service manager. Nobody in this company cares about addressing complaints. Shocked that a company would behave like this. The company might be good when things go smoothly but they have no sense of decency to communicate when things go wrong.

Original review:
I thought I would try to use Irish Tax Rebates (ITR) this year to help with my tax returns. Little did I know I would be threatened with legal action…

So I signed up like everyone else, gave ITR permission to act on my behalf, etc etc. I then received emails about claiming additional tax relief so I logged on to see if ITR would apply my rental tax credits for 2025 as I just started renting in January. A few days later I got an email to say my rebate was successful and revenue will be refunding me €1000 for 2024 rental tax credits. I immediately got in touch with ITR as something had gone wrong. Apparently I had put the wrong date in the form (2024 instead of 2025). I knew ITR were not going to fix this so I adjusted my statement of liability and repaid revenue the funds I had received.

Next thing I know ITR are requesting their fee of €100 so I got in touch again and explained the situation. ITR then said they would waive the fee to €25 in a gesture of good will. Despite their website clearly stating “No Rebate, No Fee”. I replied to their Customer Service Manager, Graham Aldren, on the 6th of Feb and complained about how poor of an experience I had. He never bothered to reply. Today, 27th of Feb, I received a threat over legal action for €25 outstanding.

To summarise, I made a minor error in a form submission resulting in an incorrect rebate. Then I rectified the incorrect rebate myself and informed ITR. Then they had the audacity to request a fee despite me not being entitled to a rebate, remember No Rebate No Fee (apparently). I replied and complained to the customer service manager who ignored me. Finally, they sent an email demanding €25 and threatened legal action. All of this over a simple mistake and €25. Not a very customer focused company. Horrendous experience. Avoid at all costs.

Would highly recommend irish tax…

Would highly recommend irish tax rebates. Everything was so simple and all I had to do was give a few details and they secured a nice sum for me. Very efficient and kept me informed.

Takes the stress out of claiming.

An unbelievably stress free and easy process for people like myself who don't have the time with work and family. I woke up to claim my rebate this morning and instantly got it through their new Revlout system,all you need to do is put your name and revout tag in , it takes 10 seconds and the money is there.
