At times I wished I could have moved on in courses before waiting for my a assignments to be graded (i.e. started new readingsfor the next section while the teacher was grading my assignment).

Awful customer service

Another review started with if I could give 0 stars I would. First they do not hold up their end of the bargain. There were many points in time where assignments went ungraded for weeks on end, far outside of their policy. But when you, for unforeseen circumstances need to unenroll from the program all of a sudden they rely on internal policy to charge you. Shame on you iTeach for a complete lack of customer service and compassion. Beware if you enter the program they won’t do what they say but expect to hold their customers to a different standard.

Would Not Recommend iteach Texas

My experience with iteach Texas was extremely disappointing. The courses are advertised as self paced, but in reality you constantly have to send reminder emails just to get your work graded. There was a time I waited over a week for grading, and it was not during a holiday period. That is unacceptable when you are actively trying to complete certification requirements.

If you are working as an aide or already teaching while finishing certification, be aware that they do not answer the phone between 11.30 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Their office hours end at 4.00 p.m., which makes it very difficult to reach anyone if you are working a full school day. Most communication takes at least 24 hours for a response by email, which adds unnecessary delays to an already stressful process.

In terms of preparation, the content was not very useful. Real classroom experience was far more valuable. Even one day workshops and conferences provided more practical and applicable information. When it came to writing lesson plans and developing assessments, I found that experienced teachers and outside resources were far more helpful. The study materials provided for the content test and PPR were not helpful in my experience. I failed my first exam by a few points after relying on their materials. After switching to 240 Tutoring, which only cost about 40 dollars, I passed my remaining exams without issue.

I also had to retake a test I had already passed because a new version was released just days before I submitted for certification. I was initially approved, then unapproved, and required to pay 140 dollars to take the new exam, which had previously cost 110 dollars. Candidates are also required to pay an additional 500 dollars to access study materials, whether or not they are effective. For a program that serves future teachers, the cost feels excessive and not justified by the level of support provided.

Overall, the program felt more focused on collecting fees than supporting candidates. Considering the current teacher shortage and how little teachers are paid, I expected more professionalism and support. I would not recommend going through iteach Texas and would strongly encourage others to research alternative certification programs before committing.

Company misinforms students

Company misinforms students.
I was looking to be certified in Business and Finance because that was what my temporary certificate was in. I found a program that would pay my tuition into iTeach, however they suddenly stopped certifying in Business and Finance (which was infuriorating because of friend of mine had been admitted into it when they did offer one month prior).
They offered to try to certify me in something else like marketing, but I didnt have the employment history required for that. Then someone at iTeach told me I could apply for the training as an EC-6 Core subject teacher and when it came time to certify, I could take the test for business and finance.
Fast forward to today when I finished all of the preliminary coursework and found out that they will not let me take certification prep tests in Business and Finance and that I will be required to teach EC-6 Core subjects for one year after certifying, which was not told to me when I signed up. I got a three year temporary certificate in Business and FInance and I am currently teaching for a second year full time in that field and I do not wish to be an elementary school teacher.

Iteach is a GREAT ARL Program

Iteach provides a valuable, self-paced curriculum that will serve help new teachers transition into the field of education. The professors are responsive, return emails promptly and provide helpful feedback when needed. The program is cost-effective compared to other ARL programs. I would highly recommend potential teachers to enroll and get started.

Assistance was phenominal

I had a tough road completing I-teach classes on time. I had a plethora of individuals from teachers to administrative staff talk me off the ledge in numerous circumstances. I don't know much about the other programs but I-teach did prepare me to teach first day. They provide an over abundance of sources you can go down the rabbit hole if you choose. So there was the core information and tons of research you could access in your areas of interest. It is hard but would you want an easy program preparing future teachers for your child?
