Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 89 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people found the customer service to be unhelpful and unresponsive, often receiving template replies or no assistance with issues like lost orders or customs problems. Customers frequently reported significant delays in order processing and shipping, with some waiting weeks or even months for their items to be dispatched or delivered. A common frustration was unexpected customs fees and import taxes, which were often not clearly communicated upfront, leading to additional costs and parcels being held or returned. However, some people also felt that their orders arrived on time, were well-packaged, and contained high-quality products, appreciating the selection of hard-to-find Japanese items. A few other people also felt that the delivery was fast and smooth, with good communication about the shipping process.

Fast Delivery and Good Communication

My box of Japanese treats arrived quickly. It was shipped within 6 business days and FedEx was great with communication around where the package was and when it would arrive. It arrived exactly on the day they said it was coming. I also got an email update about what I would get in the box, but it was not clear whether I was getting a full sized snack or just a single portion. The snacks were well packed. Some of the products had a short expiry date e.g. expiry in February/March (I received package on Feb 4th) but none were expired. There were more single size snacks than full sized packets. There was a good variety of snacks that I wouldn’t have been able to buy in my country (NZ). I think the sale price was worth the money, but probably wouldn’t buy it full price because shipping was expensive. I didn’t have to pay any customs import fees so that must depend on the country, and the value and weight of your package. A much better experience than I expected based on the reviews.

I ordered three items from the site…

I ordered three items from the site (which took around 3 weeks to arrive) and a moisturiser wasn’t included. This was clearly a fault on their side as the box clearly hadn’t been tampered with or opened. I went through 3 separate conversations with them and eventually they told me they wouldn’t do anything to help. I wish I’d read the reviews before :(

Mixed reviews for an odd company

I ordered a KOGU tea jar on Dec. 24, 2025. I figured the holiday rush would delay things and was in no hurry, but by early January I heard nothing and started to worry. I looked up Japanese Taste on Trustpilot and saw all the negative reviews so on January 5th I sent them a threatening email. They responded the next day with tracking information, saying the product had just shipped that day. I was highly suspicious of the timing and of the tracking information. Two days later I sent them another, more threatening email and they responded fairly quickly with a lengthy email reassuring me the tracking information was genuine. I decided to wait it out and, sure enough, on January 13th I received my package with precisely what I ordered in proper condition and no additional charges. So 3 stars for sending me exactly what I wanted but only after 21 days and and angry email. If they had communicated sooner this might be a 5 star review. Strange company. I don't think I will be taking my chances with them in the future. I hope they can reform and do better.

Legit company - long prep time

I am in Canada and ordered on December 15, received items on January 8th. It seems Japanese taste actually only buys the items after you send in your order - they don't keep stock - so that explains the longer delay. It would benefit the company to indicate that order preparation takes 1-3 weeks to manage our expectations.

All my products arrived extremely well packaged. A lot of care was put into making sure every item arrived intact. The products were exactly what I ordered and the expiration dates were reasonable, all more than 6 months away.

I did have to pay customs fees, but these were limited to the equivalent of sales tax in my area. If you are shopping internationally, you should be expecting these.

One thing negative is the abusive 1 hour cancellation window. I understand they buy per order and cannot manage cancellation easily, but a 24-48h window would be more reasonable.

Not a pleasant shopping experience…

Not a pleasant shopping experience indeed.

I was shopping for a Christmas party, it says it will take me 3-5 days for delivery but turn out 19 days! It lost the purpose totally but the worse it they don’t allow to cancel and said the warehouse is preparing it. After few email negotiations, they said it’s on its way. Well, I have to accept and expecting the delivery. I’m quite disappointing about the selection of the snack gift box. If I know what they are going to put it in, I wont willing to pay £70 for this like simple snack……if you are going to shop, the reviews may help for your expectation.

Five stars

Most people who write on this platform probably only do so after a negative experience, but I wanted to share the opposite. My order arrived exactly on time and was perfectly packed. What I love most is how they curate their products—it saves me so much time and effort. Definitely a reliable shop!

Speedy shipping, competitive prices, no issues

Placed an order, was a little suspicious about the cheap bulk pricing (most of the candy is packs of 3-5 for the price of a single on most other sites such as Japan Center), so I looked up reviews and saw a lot of negative comments about Japanese Taste, especially regarding shipping times and having to pay customs. Happy to report that I had zero issues (maybe I was just lucky), my order shipped 2 days after placing it and arrived 6 days later, ahead of the estimated schedule. Everything was packed nicely, BB dates of 2026/07 and beyond. No customs to pay as my order total was well under the 135 threshold, this is when you would start seeing charges. Sorry to those who had bad experiences, I just wanted to put my positive experience out there for anyone wanting to give this site a try. Might luck out like me? I will be ordering from them again in the future and will update this review if something goes amiss.

Worlds slowest shipping

I ordered $140 worth of stuff well before Christmas with a worst case delivery schedule of 15 days. Several days after I expected it to arrive, I find out it has not even shipped. It is also very difficult to get a real human or actual help on the order. Eventually, the order arrived on January 12th. The company is not the scam that I originally thought, but they are insanely slow to deliver. My recommendation if you use this company is to allow 1 to 2 months for order fulfilment and delivery in order to ensure stuff arrives before it is needed.

Awful company

Incredibly poor service from a supposedly Japanese company - I expected much better. I ordered from their UK website for delivery to the UK. After 25 days and several emails they have finally dispatched my order. Their T&Cs have a one hour cancellation window, after which they won’t cancel or refund any orders. I won’t order from them again.

I've bought from Japanese Taste a few…

I've bought from Japanese Taste a few times; unlike some of the reviewers, my experiences were always good. Until this last time. I purchased the 1st of December; it gets to be the 10th; no alert of shipping while other items I purchased from other vendors are already arriving. Support is unhelpful and even rude; their website says items arrive in 8-15 days for the shipping I paid for; nothing about 'business' days until I talk to support. Today is the 20th; almost 3 weeks since I purchase and NO shipping notification and now no response from support. Safe to say, I just opened a chargeback with my financial institution. Guess they're a scam company now.

Extremely long wait

Ordered 13 days ago. They said they won't be shipping until next week. I asked to cancel my order and they said they won't. It's crazy to make an order online and it doesn't even start shipping for 3 weeks.

I am very unhappy. So are the people who won't be getting Christmas gifts from me this year. Really really dissatisfied

Ordered 25th November still nothing!

Ordered 25th November. Expected delivery was 9-15 business days from November 25. After 2 weeks of no update in shipping I contact them, I am told I would get it by 17th December. 17th December, no update on tracking. So I email them to say cancel the order. Heard nothing. Thursday 18th I go on the site and put q request in again my order hadn't shipped and today, 19th December they finally send tracking. But its too late now. I wanted it cancelled. Instead I'm told "Kindly expect it to reach you in 9-15 business days from November 25, 2025". We are clearly past that time line!
My partner ordered from them 14th December and got FedEx Tracking in matter of days. So I can't believe they're really busy at this time of year. Just randomly choosing who they ship on time and who they don't.

You’re an importer, not a customer

I ordered on 11/17. My order shipped to the United States on 12/5. Today, 12/15, I am trying to figure out how to file the import paperwork with FDA they didn’t. I have never had an international merchant not file or include the proper paperwork to ship internationally. Japanese Taste will treat you as if you are the importer, not as if you are a customer if they fail to ship properly. Beware unless you want to figure out how to file FDA import documents.

Good shop

I've ordered products from Japanese Tase twice, and both times, from ordering to receiving the package, everything went smoothly. Communication was fast and efficient; I waited about 2-3 weeks for the package. Everything was beautifully packaged, and the products were of very good quality. I don't know why there are so many negative reviews, but my experience so far has been very good. I plan to order my favourite products again in the future. Thank you Japanese Tase.

Do NOT BUY from this company

Do NOT BUY from this company. You will be charged outrages duties. I purchased $70 in foodstuffs. UPS (the shipper) has sent me to a collections agency for $122! To make matters even worse, my purchase was made in March 2025, PRIOR to the new duties/tariff rules going into effect.

Leaving my good review to help you decide.

I'm writing this review because I saw all the negative ones and decided to try ordering anyways, and everything went well! Unsatisfied customers are more likely to leave a bad review, so I want to give my two cents. I got some food items and everything I selected arrived. It took almost two weeks for my order to be shipped, but it might have been because of the holiday season. Once shipped, it took a week to reach Italy. I have no complaints to be honest.
