former licensed financial advisor, RUN!

As a former licensed financial advisor, I sold John Hancock life insurance even to myself. DO NOT BUY life insurance from this company! My plans changed and I am still unable to get my principle back due to THEIR made up technicalities! They "sent the wrong papers"; they need a hand written signature but fail to send DocuSign. They will leave you frustrated and upset. Oh- and their advertising... expect multiple emails each week. I HATE THEM ALL AT JH. RUN AWAY.

Delays, delays,delays...Don't put your family through this

Do not buy life insurance here if you are looking for your loved ones to receive a payment in a reasonable amount of time. Much better companies out there. Delay after delay. I just got a message from them today asking me to correct some things on my claim. I already did that 3 weeks ago and sent Fedex. They say 7-10 days to review. That has not been my experience. Then when they finally review it, they ask you to fill out the same claim form again and again. You fill it out as they request, they wait weeks, and then they send another request for the claim to be redone. Pulling my hair out. My father had 4 other life insurance policies and getting them paid out was a breeze. Avoid these guys!

Just say NO to JH Annuities!!!

16 YR old annuity
I was receiving my annual withdrawal for 3 years. During the 4th year, using the same procedure, I was sent my quarterly statement saying I had surrendered my total annuity.
NO email, calls, text or letters. They said I clicked that option on the ET form. I disagree! I was dumped
because I was going to be a loser account over the life of the annuity. Fought for months to be reinstated but to no avail!!!! Obviously I won't be using or recommending John Hancock again.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!

Sadly there is not a zero star option here, so I had to give one star. This company has conned my parents out of their later life care coverage. They have paid in for the last 20 years and last year when they finally need it, they refuse to pay out. They'll find every excuse to not pay out insurance. Worst company we've ever dealt with. Please, please, don't use John Hancock Life Insurance under ANY circumstances - you will thank me for this review if you avoid them like the plague.

Avoid John Hancock at all costs

Avoid John Hancock at all costs. Their fees are excessive, their interest charges are unreasonable, and the way they handle your money is downright predatory. A significant portion of the funds you contribute will be eaten up by their hidden charges and policy fees, leaving you with far less value than you expect.

Even if you’ve built up cash value, they’ll find a way to drain it. It’s shocking that a company with these practices is still in business. This is not a safe or customer-focused institution. Take your money elsewhere , do not trust John Hancock with your financial future.

Whatever happened in August of 2024 has turned this company from Gold to Garbage

I loved this policy and the company from 2019 through July of 2024. Then in August in 2024 it all went to hell in a handbasket. They are constantly misapplying my payments (or not applying them at all), sending me cancelation notices because of their errors, taking extra money out of my account that I did not authorize and then taking over a month to refund it. I have spoken with multiple "managers" and had so many support requests I am probably my own option in the drop down menu and yet it still continues to happen. I wanted a life insurance policy, not a full time job babysitting a company to do what they are contractually obligated to do!

DON'T EVEN BOTHER

DON'T EVEN BOTHER! They will ask you for supporting documents that don't even exist until you call it quits! They will do everything in their power NOT to pay your claim. I travel a lot, had to file a few claims here and there and this is BY FAR the worst experience. So much so, that I just gave up and walked away not reimbursed! Which is what they ultimately hope will happen! DISHONEST to the bone.

I changed checking accounts in December…

I changed checking accounts in December and called John Hancock and gave them the new information. Well for January and February 2025 they did not take out any premiums. I called in February and a c/s clerk looked at it and said that there was a error on their end and she would put though the premiums. Well they did that for a total of $102.36 which went though four days later. In addition to the $102.36 they took out an additional $211.93.By doing this cost me to go in the minus and Chase bank charged me two 34$ NSF charges. If they had not taken out the $211.93 I would not have had the NSF charges. I called them they said they would get on it right away and get me my $211.93 back but not the NSF charges. I sent them documentation and they said it would be 10 working days to get it complete. I called last week and they said they would escalate it. Now it has been 13 working days and still I have not heard anything from John Hancock on the refund of the money. They did however give me the $102.36 back. Why I do not know. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income and I really could use my money back $211.93 as well as my two overdraft charges. I have always consider JH a great company. My parents had policies dating back to the 1950's until they died and JH paid those policies within two weeks of their passing. This is why I chose to go with JH. I just want my money back and not all the red tape and passing the buck to other people.

took many many phone calls to get this claim processed and still waiting for payment

was told never received first set of documents for life insurance claim faxed on 2-3 so had to refax on 2-11 and was told claim would take 10 business days but would be expedited since original docs were never processed. it is now 2-28 and i am being told that the claim was just processed today and will be mailed tomorrow. the other claim that i filed for a different co was processed in 3 days. this is not the was to treat your customers especially after the death of a loved one.

Never pay claims

My dad regretted getting this policy because they made excuses and paid very little when claims were made. I just attempted to file a Hospice Claim and the agent kept talking about if I had legal paperwork even though he had my name on file. My dad was 99 and had an unofficial will so no I don't. Hospice kept his DNR and his Hospice paperwork. The agent who was foreign also kept saying there was another open claim from April 2021 to 2024 which I don't know what that was, I said forget that, why hasn't that been paid? I will just eat the $700 instead of dealing with these jerks. Just don't get a policy.

Get nothing but a run around

Mind you this is still ongoing...my husbands mother passed at 97 in November 2023, father in 2012. Policy was on both parents so both had to pass. Sent EVERYTHING including death certificates for both in December. Re-sent in January because they "lost" everything. We call every week and get nothing but different excuses for not sending out the death benefit. "another dept accidently received it, give us 48 hours" Sure. Right. Call again... "Can't figure out the amount" (we have a statement). "It hasn't been 10 days" Wow, I'm pretty sure it has. "it will be in the mail in another couple of weeks" Oh and the best one is "it will only be half the amount" (did I mention we have a statement) And just so everyone is aware, they do not pay interest on money that they "hang on to". We have since filled a claim with the insurance commissioner in our state.

Horrible product, horrible service.

My (ex) financial advisor sold me an annuity, claiming it was an investment. It seemed very complicated but I trusted him. After we parted ways, I looked into it, and found that this really profited the company (and probably him). It is worth less than when I bought it, after many years, and they take their cut no matter what. The company denies any responsibility. To make matters worse, the customer service is bad. I had to call many times to find out what was going on. Today, for some reason the website did not work (I was just trying to get their phone number). I had to call their tech support who could not explain it, so had to get a new password. Then I called, was verified, was finally transferred to an agent who wanted to verify me yet again (3rd time today, 2nd time in that call). I hung up in disgust.

I purchased a disability poicy with…

I purchased a disability poicy with John Hancock in the 1980s. I recently became disabled and put a claim in. Heard nothing back from Hancock. I called and called, letters then emails, more certified letters. Given so many cases numbers and told will be expedited then transfer after transfer of telephone calls. Finally I reported Hancock to Dept of Insurance. They told the state that they made a mistake in not processing this. Next thing is a 3rd party call from UNUM gets in touch with me and says I need to start process all over again including the physicians statements. They have it in their possession, but wants the same forms filled out again. This was 6 months after I initially filed and the policy has a 60 day elimination period. So started all over and still nothing. Then I get a bill in the mail that my premium is going up 300%. I am not even working. I should not even be paying a premium at this point, but if I do not then they will drop me and use this as excuse for not honoring policy. HIred an attorney and now out thousands and thousands of dollars. They now want the office corporate tax returns for 5 years from the company I worked for??? This is a personal disability policy. The attorney is now taking this to court. Total cost should exceed $50,000. OVER 35 years paying premiums and this is stealing. At the time of my doihg this review it has now been over one year and o end in site, but Hancock still wants these new massive premiums paid or. will drop me. CROOKED COMPANY. Looking forward to my day in court, but likely Hancock attorneys will drag this on for at least another year. Sad but this will cost me more than what the policy was to pay out.
