Indifferent attitude toward customers

Horrible. I tried to buy a personal training package at the Santa Monica location, and getting the first appointment with a trainer was such a nightmare that I am now shopping around for a different gym. The assistant manager, Taylor scheduled me with a trainer, but when I showed up my appointment was not on the books and the trainer was not available. The manager who was on duty was Albert, and I tried to ask him about rescheduling, but he couldn't be bothered to help me, despite the fact that he seemed to be just hanging out in the lounge area texting on his phone. Rarely have I seen such an indifferent and uncaring attitude from staff at a gym.

Cold showers and horrible service!

John Reed Women's club was not able to provide warm water for its members for about two months and did not communicate this openly via app or the website. When addressed, the girls at the counter suggested I cancel my membership if I was not ready to shower with cold water before using the jacuzzi, the sauna or just to wash my hair after a workout. I was treated very disrespectfully - in the end I did cancel the membership and would not recommend this place to anyone anymore, even though at the beginning I would absolutely love coming here and would invite friends to join. The service team has not called me back after two weeks of writing and calling them repeatedly, even though they promised to take my matter seriously. They now also cancelled my kids club booking option for this remaining month because I said that I want my money back for the last three months. Put shortly: HORRIBLE SERVICE EXPERIENCE, ZERO professionalism, scammed out of three months of membership: they owe me now 210€.

No value for money

The gym provides what I need and is neatly located next to Schottentor subway station

The downside, however, is that equipment is often broken and therefore unusable. This applies to both the rowing machines and stationary bikes that I often use and it takes forever to get it fixed.

On the stationary bike the multimedia portal is not accessible which means no watching tv during my workout. It's a minor inconvenience but what is shocking is that the issue was raised and supposedly taken up the chain but not addressed for months.

Another thing with the stationary bikes is that there are so few that they tend to often be occupied. One of them has, at the time of writing, been broken since last week and has yet to be fixed.

I will keep going to the gym because of its convenient location and because I need to train.

On top of that I'm supposed to provide my own towel for working out and the shower. some gyms that cost significantly less in monthly fees provide towels free of charge so where exactly is my money going?

However this gym does not provide anything resembling value for money. For a sizeable 100 Euros per month I expect a perfect gym experience every time and this is most definitely not it.

Shady and discriminatory

I was offered a gym pass. This offer contained no stipulations of any kind. I agreed that I'd use it. I suddenly go to use it, and the young woman at the front desk is staring at my cane suddenly. It made me uncomfortable, but I try to ignore it. I then inform her I'm requesting the use of the day pass. She says that's not possible and that expired. I show her the email which makes no such stipulation or qualification. I then email several people, showing them the evidence; there is clearly no mention of any date or expiration of any kind, but they all say the same thing.

This is deeply problematic for a plethora of reasons. The first being the level of unprofessionalism. Obviously communication should be clear, accurate, and precise. And that didn't happen here. And in such instances, the businesses should honor the offer "as written" to a potential customer, because it's simply the right thing to do when your staff makes a mistake.

And then there's the clear contractual issues. Any first year law student can tell you this is what constitutes a "unilateral contract" (think of a "wanted -- dead or alive" ad; performing the act means the contract has been executed). And even if one thinks there is no contract, there is most certainly what's known as a promissory estoppel (a promise). Either way, by law I'm entitled to the day pass. wrote several emails to business owner Taylor Bennett. Instead of realizing this potential error, he doubled down, saying he won't honor it and it's not enforceable (it almost certainly is).

And then there was that look I got for having a cane. That look for being unshaven. Because having chronic pain, I need a cane to get around. And I know that look all too well. That look that a disabled person is less than. That look that I'm sub-human. Watching that young woman give me "that look" was painful, but being an autistic individual with chronic pain, it's a look I haven't seen a million times before. But I thought a gym in the heart of West Hollywood would value diversity and inclusion and accept me. But I looked a certain way. I talked a certain way. I walked a certain way. And that simply was a "deal breaker."

To anyone thinking of going to this gym -- don't. Because if they'll do this to me, I'm sure they'll do this to you. They won't honor their word, you'll never be able to trust them to honor their commitments. And if you do have disabled people in your life that you love, like me, they can tell you this happens everyday and it won't get better until some level of accountability happens. All Taylor had to do was give me *one* day pass, something nearly every other gym, including Equinox (which gave me a 3 day pass) does as a courtesy, but now suddenly won't fix. And something the gym literally offered me, with no conditions, and now after being a scruffy unkempt guy that tries to use this pass, I’m being told the pass has expired. It’s clear what’s really happening.

UPDATE: JR TEAM — I was abundantly clear that I expect BOTH a pass and a formal apology from Taylor in email. It’s not negotiable. I’m not deleting the reviews or withdrawing my legal complaints to the CRD until I have both. So do you want to waste money time & money fighting this, or just give the apology that I very clearly articulated? Reminder: You may not legally retaliate against me for this..

NEVER SIGN UP FOR JD MEMBERSHIP

I made a BIG mistake by joining instagramable John Reed back in February 2022. All of my interactions with them were a complete disaster. Let me list them all to save people who are being misled and in scammed.

During my first visit, I clearly highlighted to JD sales guy that I’m doing weightlifting, so I’m mostly interested in bars, weight plates and the platform. They assured me that I’m in the right place.

Then, I was charged some random onboarding fee which was not mentioned during my first visit. Then, the monthly fee was withdrawn. For some reason, I went for gold membership to be granted with towel and an access to disgusting coloured water full of vitamins which can be drink only if you carry your own cup or bottle, as they don’t provide it for some reason. Environmentalist :)

When I came for my first session, I spotted that they don’t have enough weight plates and the weightlifting platform is broken. There was no sign, simply nothing, which may lead to injuries, especially when it comes to deadlift with big weights. But I was doing 90kg snatch, and when I dropped the bar it bounced about 3-5 meters on the right. Thanks God there were no people next to me, otherwise it would be a fatal outcome. I made photos, sent it over to support team and to guys at the reception. They undertook zero actions, response time was 1-4 weeks. I was remanding them again and again for 6 months. As a result, they came up with a story of how they are waiting for supplier from Berlin and that there are supply chain issues. Guys, probably still live in COVID times.

Then I noticed that bench was broken, it was missing a part which made the whole structure unstable. Again, zero actions from JD team.

After sometime, all showers became broken, they still haven’t been fixed. It has been like this for more than 6 months I believe.

Then I spotted that more and more machines are either need to be fixed or to be properly maintained, but no one cares. I made photos, send it again to JD team. Zero actions in response.

As a cherry on top, they were double charging me through the direct debit!!! It took me months to explain them this and another 2 months to get my money back. The response time was 2-4 weeks and the whole experience was unacceptable.

Long story short, it is the worst gym on the Planet Earth! Avoid this place for your own safety!

NEVER SIGN UP FOR JD MEMBERSHIP!

Terrible administration harassing me with collection agents for years.

John Reed have a serious administration issue, eg they didn’t register payments I made and sent collection agents after me for years following this, despite my having bank receipts showing that I’ve paid them.

This has been a really mentally tough experience making me feel powerless and bullied as there is little more I can do than keep repeating that I did pay them plus show bank receipts. Quite an unbelievable experience that nobody around me can believe is real. I seriously do not recommend you go near this gym.

Do not use this gym, never sign up

Do Not Use.this gym. Never sign up.
I made the mistake of trying this Gym a few months ago , they’ve not had working showers from August 2023 through to December 2023. Yeah, they still want to take a monthly payment, no direct debit, no standing order, just your card details which they try various techniques to continue charging you, despite the fact they don’t have facilities to clean yourself. Their business practices are substandard, as are their facilities, there are far better gyms in the city than this place.

Do not Recommend this Gym! They discriminate people with disabilities!

Do not Recommend this Gym!!!
I was on an accident a few months ago and ended up on a wheelchair. Of course I needed to cancel my subscription. The agent that took my case,( Angelina 20th of November 2023 at 14:55 pm Berlin Time) literally discriminated me, she closed the chat without answers, I've never been treated like that, super rude and unprofessional. These things need to be call out. Clearly do NOT recommend this.

Worst customer service I have…

Worst customer service I have experienced.

The Liverpool street showers have been out of action now for 6 months. Every time I email to ask for an update takes them 10 days to get back to me. Repeatedly offer to discounts that are not applied. I've tried to cancel the membership but nobody ever acknowledges my request. Definitely not worth the money, better stick to a gym you can trust.

The gym itself is good but as many others have said the customer service is appalling. It literally takes a week for someone to respond and when they do it's some generic e mail rather than actually answering the question which then takes another week. The showers have been broken for months and there is no news or updates any more i mean how can you use a gym without a shower! You'd be better off using a budget gym and it's nowhere near the high end gyms in London. Avoid

Extremely poor customer service from…

Extremely poor customer service from front of house staff to management. JOHN REED LIVERPOOL STREET and their sales team will do and say anything to potential members so they can join their john. I was con in to signing up to JOHN REED LIVERPOOL STREET, they sign me up to a 12 month contract and told I could cancel with a month’s notice and no contract was sent to me.
It’s been over a year now and John Reed still doesn’t want to cancel my membership even though I no longer use the club and I am unable to attend.

Definitely not worth it

I want to like it, but the reality is:
- Quite a bit of the equipment is now rather tired and needs some repairs/replacement.
- Showers have been out of action for about 3 months and no date for a fix. The level of contact about progress on fixing the showers is almost zero.
- Many of the lockers are permanently locked or the numbers on the locking dials have seized up and don’t move.
Overall it just isn’t worth the price and despite only being a member for a few months I’m already looking for somewhere else.

Lucky to have Marcel and Andre giving fitness classes

What makes JR a special and unique gym is with no doubts, the fitness instructors working there Andre and Marcel a.k.a. The Pumpinbros.
Both professional, knowledgeable, motivated giving such high-quality classes like Sweet, Strong, Shape, Booty but also PT classes.
All the sessions are very well prepared, with great variety of exercises and for everybody. Marcel and Andre keep on challenging each one of us individually depending on our needs and level to make sure we get the best results. The sessions are also so much fun that is just impossible not to love them!. You just want to go back….
I have been training in many places and these classes of Marcel and Andre are the best in Rotterdam. I would really recommend to anyone to come and try.

London Gym is the worst one

London Gym is the worst one ! Decided to cancel due to the Lack of services promissed in the beginning ( no showers so no sauna cause who’s gonna use it without shower ) etc etc. still got charged full price for notice period as after 3 months without cardio’s etc I’ve loosed whatever I achieved and had to signed myself for the gym with Sauna and fully operational showers. Customer service no clue at all and Staff are rude. Changing rooms super hot like sauna , equipment ripped. Avoid at all costs

Quite possibly to worse CX I have ever…

Quite possibly to worse CX I have ever experienced.
I joined when they first opened an few years ago, it was woeful - too many staff and gym issues to cover.

I left but they continued to take money for the next 3 months and I struggled to get anyone to help me get it back.

I joined again after being assured all was well - on my first visit i found out the showers don't work and no date for a fix for some time, the guy who signed me up "forgot" to mention it.

Sounds like misrepresentation to me.

Yet again multiple calls and no response, or should I say the staff curt and the Manager always in "meetings" and "very busy"

All I can say is DONT JOIN.....

Don't believe the positive reviews

As the other reviews stated - this is the worse gym, they do not respond to your emails; customer service is no help and have no clue, they are either on their phone or disappear from reception, showers have not been working for 3 months, the air con in the gym is poor, changing rooms/gym floor feels like a sauna and Ive been told there has been an issue with the air con since opening, no proper update or even a discount to membership and trying to cancel due to this, they have been ignoring my emails. Ive held back before making any complaint, however with the way I have been treated I feel that I should air it out. Please don't believe the other positive reviews - if you want a gym where you are happy not to shower after training then sign up.

Overrated price for a under average service

It's unaccettable that you pay 70 euros per month for 1 year and:

1) Showers don't work for days, they don't put a sign to indicate there is a issue and you figure out as soon as you finish the sauna

2) Jacuzzi have not been working for the last 3 months, no indications on when the problem will be fixed
