Builder blames everyone but himself for poor work

Avoid! I hired this builder for 5 bathrooms, lighting, hvac work, floors, walls, and more and every single room has had challenges, delays, quality issues. Kenneth Meyer, the owner, will blame everything that goes wrong on you as the customer. I am deeply disappointed with the quality, oversight, cleanup, and amount of corrective work left behind.

Left nails 1/3 an inch above the floor in dozens of locations.

After 3 requests to fix, still electrical offline in vanity drawers he charged $750 per drawer on.

Due to the dust from the work, I lost 2 HVACs.

His team unplugged my irrigation to plug in a microwave to cook burritos just days after I installed $40,000 in new plants. I lost dozens of plants during a heat wave.

This builder doesn't take feedback at all.

I have documented numerous incomplete items and workmanship issues, including unfinished trim and drywall, missing vents and window locks, improperly installed doors and hardware, electrical work left offline, vanity-drawer outlets not installed as specified, a shower fan not connected, leaking/loose tub fixtures, failed shower-floor tile sealing, and a jetted-tub access panel that was tiled and grouted shut.

The in-law suite flooring was installed so poorly that it must be removed and redone; even after an attempted repair, damaged wood and protruding staples/nails remained and caught feet. An HVAC unit was installed inside a bush, and construction dust was allowed into the HVAC systems and ductwork. I paid about $2,700 for duct cleaning and had HVAC-related replacement costs after systems froze/failed. My Tesla charger also had to be relocated at my expense after the new stair layout interfered with it.

The crew also left major cleanup and property-damage issues: debris and drywall residue, an unprotected new porch swing that required professional cleaning, irrigation-related concerns, and power to the doll house/security-camera setup was lost for weeks because of a faulty GFCI. A rear window was covered with wood and left unfinished.

Despite an 18% management fee, I have spent substantial money and time identifying, documenting, coordinating, and paying for repairs. Ken delegated all orders to be made by me to his staff and then he peaced out but when something went wrong blamed me for his staff's problems.

I would strongly recommend getting independent inspections, documenting everything, and withholding final payment until every item is completed correctly.
