Deceit Lying, over billing and theft. to Senior Home Owners.

I was not provided with an estimate of the cost involved until after the bill was submitted to my financial institution. II trusted this company because they had worked for me before. I trusted them and usually paid by cash or check. I believed them to be honest and working with integrity. When told that I would have additional charges for the installation of One railing and one small window over and above the cost of the renovation I asked that the company, Mr. Kamp clarify my investment before adding any additional charges, He replied after they submitted the cost (not an estimate or a breakdown) and I believe the bank approved. The document was sent to me through docu-sign and did not include a breakdown of cost only the total amount. I later received a "text Message" with a list of expenses and cost on a sheet of scratch paper which appeared to be just a little larger than a index card or note paid. It was totally insulting. He was going to charge extra for items that were included in the estimate cost. He indicated that the window and railing would be extra because it was not anticipated but to justify the cost the railing and small window were included in the breakdown. I noted that the charge for material was double the retail price since I checked with 3 different independent contractors and went to the stores where I had selected my floors to verify the price. His estimate for the price of the flooring was more than $500.00 or double. He noted the flooring was $1,000.00 yet the salesman stated the flooring and the amount ordered/received installed was approximately $476.00. He stated that the cabinets were $4,000.00. The stores retail price for the same cabinets was a lot closer to $2,000.00. In addition to being charged double the retail I was charged $1.000 to install the floors and $1,500 to install the cabinets. Two of the cabinets were small than the ones they took down. One was about a half inch less and the corner cabinet was not to the end of the wall. There was a big gap (an open space) in the corner were the cabinet was. This was a renovation not a remodel and every thing should have been the same size The cabinet covering the dishwasher had markings on it which liked like a sharpie pen or magic marker. They claimed they could remove it or cover it up. They did not. The kitchen is relatively small all four walls had openings, cabinets and appliances the only clear space was the ceiling . The charge listed in his note for painting the kitchen was $1,000.00. I purchased the paint, I primed the walls and I put the first coat of paint on without getting paint on the new cabinets. That was unrealistically expensive when the average room cost to paint is $300.00 to $500.00. This only added to the nightmare since there were nail holes where the painter put the fire extinguisher up without anchors and it fell. The bottom of the wall (base boards) were painted on one side of the room but not on the other. Plaster bleed over into the next room and left lumps in the doorway. Small air pockets of paint were on a wall that fortunately will be cover buy the refrigerator when it's delivered. While Mr. Kamp included the cost of $1750.00 for a railing and $750.00 for a small window with no insulation he intimated that those to items would be added to my initial estimate. They were included. It appeared that he was going to charge me additional money for something that was already included in the budget. Do they think women are so STUPID that we don't check these things. He was out of the country during the renovation and my only communication was through a text message or through one of the brothers working on my kitchen. I was left without a sink or running water for approximately 2 weeks but the entire job took 2.5 days and they did not work full days. They were at my home around 7 hours and took and entire hour break. But they charges for the work of two men for 2.5 days was in excess of
$5,000.00 plus the cost of the painter at an additional $1,000.00. To add insult to injury Mr. Kamp included a charge of $2500.00 for profit and overhead which was over and above the installation charges and overcharges for material. No receipts, no contract, no honesty just a text message with a list of charges hand written on a piece of scratch paper. This is totally frightening since someone else might be scammed like this and not have the tenacity to challenge it or fight back. I hope that other seniors, other home owners and other women are not bilked by this chaotic and unethical billing by Kamp Builders or any other contractor. I thought I was paying for a renovation I was not aware that I had to pay profit, overhead and extra material since my material was only half the price I was charged! SHAME ON YOU KAMP BUILLDERS. SHARE ON YOU! 4th time I used them. never again
