I love the katana and the tanto so much that I still use to this day. The quality and the weight are perfect and for the price it is more than enough. The Website is okay it could look a little more "... See more

I’ve looked for different products on this website, mostly to compare prices. So far the quality of offered merchandise and variety of it, has been quite satisfactory.

The Price/Performance of the Katana is in a good proportion. Unfortunately some parts are not high-end quality. But on the whole, quite good swords for the price.

Despite I had to wait comparatively long, because of "pre-order", I was totally happy to get it and totally happy with the product (katana - musha). Also friendly and English speaking support should be noticed - it's great!
And definitely going to get back to this guys for Tante😄 12/10

Asakura Daisho from katanamart.de

The swords I ordered were not in stock, so delivery took a little longer, but this was clearly stated on the site. Overall quality of the Katana & Wakizashi was good, everything fit well, grip wrapped nice and tight. One of the sheaths had been smeared with black paint on the inside, so the Habaki(?) also had black paint on it after drawing, but this could be easily cleared of. All told very good quality for such a low price.

All smooth!

My first contact was with the parent company in Italy by E-Mail. In case that I am from Switzerland, they asked me to make the purchase via the German homepage. The response times were short and although the order address and the delivery address were different, everything worked smoothly and made for shining eyes under the Christmas tree. I am very satisfied!

Look elsewhere if you want quality

I bought one of Katanamart's Superior Iaito Katanas in April 2020 - one of their top of the line blunt edge swords and I really wish I hadn't. I wanted a beautiful display sword for hanging in my home office (not for any practice or martial arts) with a blunt blade as I have children in the house. The designs on Katanamart looked amazing and I paid about £430 - or about 500 Euros for the one I loved. When it arrived I was immediately disappointed with the quality of the product, and the customer service that followed was just as bad. What was wrong with the sword?

1. There were dark grey marks on the blade that would not come off with oil and cloth. Essentially the person who made it had only done half a job of polishing the sword and just shipped it. It looked bad and was covering the lovely hamon underneath. When I contacted them, I was told this is normal and I should go out, buy steel wool and keep polishing the sword until the marks came out. This took me hours.

2. The wood inside the handle (tsuka) was showing. Katanas are normally wrapped in rayskin and cotton/silk/leather, fully covering the wood inside the handle. At the end of my handle (end closest to the blade) the rayskin and cotton did not actually meet the edge, exposing the wood underneath and making the sword look rushed and unfinished. I was told by Katanamart that this is normal - however I've not been able to find any pictures of Katanas looking like this on their site or anywhere online, and they weren't able to back this up with any pictures either.

3. The sword turned pink / bronze in colour at the ends of the handle. After 4 months of occasionally picking up and holding the sword (no sword practice - this is a display sword), the metal at the top and bottom of the handle (Fuchi and Kashira) changed from silver to pink/bronze which looks dreadful. These parts were coloured with a light silver coating, and this wore off within 4 months like cheap jewelry . Katanamart accused me of not 'cleaning' these parts after I used the sword, which is confusing as I don't practice, it was only 4 months, and there were no instructions saying these specific parts needed to be cleaned either with the sword or on their site. They told me it wasn't possible that the silver coating would have worn off unless I'd been using the sword, repeatedly implying I wasn't telling the truth here. I was told I could pay 80 Euros for a repair.

4. The scabbard (saya) was not well lacquered - at the top and bottom of the saya (koiguchi and kojiri) there were patches where the lacquering was applied poorly, leaving an unfinished effect. These parts are admittedly separate from the main body of the saya and in some designs are deliberately a different colour, but my sword design is one where all parts of the saya are lacquered. It was clear that the effect here was not intentional.

5. The free gift Kake (sword stand) broke and the oil in the maintenance kit had leaked. They’re free gifts so it’s not a big deal, but the quality was bad. I tried to attach the Kake fittings and they immediately got stuck and broke the whole thing.

My customer experience? Pre-sale was helpful, responsive and friendly. But when issues arose, there was constant push back, challenge, and often delayed responses. When it first arrived, I didn't send it back, I didn't want to make trouble at this time. I contacted them about the grey markings and, whilst I wasn't happy, was prepared to polish the blade with steel wool for the hours myself. However, after the sword turned pink after 4 months, I was no longer prepared to accept all of this. I contacted them about all 5 points above and was constantly challenged. Katanamart said all these issues were normal or my fault, and the best they would offer is a replacement free kake, and that I could pay 80 euros for a repair of the pink parts. I proposed they replace my sword with another design in the same category at the same price which did not have silver coating or a lacquered saya, but they refused consistently. Ultimately I said if they weren't prepared to help I would need to share this entire experience online. They then accused me of blackmail and that a replacement wasn't my right - it was just what I wanted and so I'd be unfairly damaging their reputation if I wrote a review. I was speechless.

The above is an accurate telling of my experience, but please keep in mind I'm not a sword expert and this is the first and only sword I've bought. I'm simply comparing what I received with what I saw and read online when I bought it - and the difference is huge. Katanamart won't offer me the proposed replacement, and say I'm outside the returns window. This is true, and I should've acted earlier, but the sword took four months to deteriorate. I expected a more pragmatic response than hiding behind policy. I'll be buying a new one elsewhere.

My fantastic beautiful marbled sword

I hesitated a long time about that white Wakizashi. Being used to only black finishes I wasn't sure if I would like the white.
The white grew on me over the time. And, when I saw that nobody wanted it because of the flaw, I felt sorry for it, and ordered it.
When I got it I was totally amazed. It is absolutely beautiful and I really love it.
The flaw is not a flaw to me. It looks like ivory or marbled stone. The so called flaw gives it more character.
And it is razor sharp and cuts fantastically.
I am very happy with my new marbled sword.
Thank you
