never again

Booked a keddy by europcar with booking.com, paid full insurance online but when came to Faro airport to collect a car they said that I didn't book a car with them but with booking.com. They insisted I pay the insurance to them or I am not covered. It doesn’t make cense does it? I had to pay extra €77 for the insurance. When I read more carefully booking.com terms it said something like this if the car hire company will charge you for anything contact us and we will refund you any money in 4 days. They should change if to when because the car hire company said, as I haven’t paid the insurance to them they will charge me for any damage and I will have to deal with booking.com!!!
Also the car was terrible. It had almost 100000 km mileage and was so scratched that I took about 20 pictures just of the biggest ones. I assume they are buying the second hand cars for the ‘cheaper deals’ like keddy. I might cannot afford an expensive car but I am paying my hard earned money for this one. So, please, respect me enough to give me a small but decent one.

KEDDY - ORBIT - EUROPCAR... fraudsters?

KEDDY - ORBIT - EUROPCAR FRAUDSTERS?

I search for an economic rental car 14 days from Bianiac, Toulouse. On the Internet I book a manual car at Keddy car rental 14 days, no extras, for a fixed total of 430.37€.
Returning the car a final invoice comes from Europcar. It is for 881€ including all extras - more than double the fixed amount.
Complaints are bounced between a chain of companies - KEDDY, ORBIT, EUROPCAR - and not attended to. Orbit and Europcar have both received details as below - no comments.

DETAILS - 411 TO 881€ INCREASE
I get an e-mail confirmation. Not from Keddy but from Orbit Car Hire. And they charge me 17,05€.
Arriving Bianiac, Toulouse. No Keddy nor Orbit rental to be seen. Asking at Europcar for Keddy I am informed it is there - at Europcar. I present the Rental Agreement Details on paper. The lady confirms an “economic car”, “manual”. Yes. Is it OK with a Peugeot? Yes. No other changes to my reservation are mentioned. The car given to me is an hybrid, not manual.
Returning it after 14 days, they remark there is a colour scratch on the rim of a wheel. Could be, I did not check the wheel rims at picking-up.
I get an invoice from Europcar France S.A.S. It has the items Basic Rental 411€, Coverage (Go Zen) 336€, Services Cross Border Fee 32€, Surcharges Environmental Contribution 15€, Other revenues Damage Admin Fee 87€, Total 881€. On top of the 17,05$ first paid.
No figure, or combination of figures, correspond to the fixed price of 430,37€.

COMPLAINT
My complaint is sent to the invoice sender, Europcar France S.A.S. Reference 20799055.
They return 14/8 with the message “I've checked your request and noted that you made your reservation via a Tour Operator.
They are your main partner for the the full rental process (before, during and after the rental). They will be happy to provide further information.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,
Erjo
Europcar Mobility Group Germany“

So - that “Tour Operator” - could it be Orbit Car Hire. I contact them forwarding the above message and write:
“EVIDENTLY - Europcar considers you, OrbitCarHire, as a Tour Operator which should handle the case. I kindly ask you to do so immediately.
I enclose Reservation details and Invoice (protested)
Yours sincerely. ENCLOSURE”

The answer from OrbitCarHire:
“thank you for your email and my apologies for the late reply!
I will get in touch with Europcar, as we will need a copy of the signed rental agreement and final invoice from your reservation as well as an explanation of why all the extras were included in the reservation.
As soon as we have more information available regarding this case, I will get back to you with an update. In the meantime, I kindly ask for your patience and understanding.”
Kind regards, Nik Bradac. Orbit Car Hire”
Now the Reservation Details and the Invoice had already been sent to Orbit Car Hire. The rental agreement was left in the returned car and of course available at the Europcar office in Bianiac, which I informed them. In the Reservation Details are no extras included - hence no need for an explanation on my part - possibly on the part of the Europcar lady at Bianiac.

I heard nothing further from Orbit och Europcar. Keddy was nowhere to be heard of, except on the Internet page.

THE CASE IS NOT UNIQUE - THE SETUP
appears to be one of three organisations using, blaming and hiding each other in order to cheat customers and avoid responsibilities. When the paper company KEDDY gets too stained with frauds, another facade can quickly be arranged.

I have seen that there are a number of fraudulent cases in various reviews regarding the experience from Europcar rentals in other places around the globe.
Common appears to be that the constellation around Europcar is a doubtful, if not pure criminal fraudulent one. THUS, AVOID RENTING CARS where Keddy, Europcar och Orbit Car Hire appear.

super friendly service

the car was booked as keddy but all dealings were with the europcar desk in the carpark.

the car was booked for 2330 but a delay meant we arrived at midnight. the staff at faro were great and couldn't have been more helpful.
we were upgraded from a small 208 or equivalent to an a-class mercedes free of charge and were not given a hard insurance sell either (i had booked the extra insurance at the time of booking)
we were given the keys and off we went. 300 miles of driving later we returned the car with no issues - had the credit card holding removed straight away and as we didn't use the a22 had no toll charges

The nice thing I can do is warn other…

The nice thing I can do is warn other travelers never use Europcar.
I booked a car from Keddy service, which appeared to be another name for Europecar that has better reviews. After half an hour wondering for Keddy a kind man from another company told us that it is Europcar.

We booked Toyota for $200 with full coverage, made a pre-payment. The manager said that he don’t see this pre-payment even though we had printed booking with us.

Toyota apparently wasn’t available, so they didn’t gave us another similar car, but just tried to convince us to pay €500 for another car.

As we were running out of time, we agreed on €414 price, returned it and everything seemed to be fine.

However, yesterday they charged us again for the same amount, so it was double payment. We wrote support, but no reply from them. Now we opened an issue in our bank about fraudulent activity from Europcar.

Waiting for everything to be solved, but now I know for sure that never again will be using their service.

Do not use

Not a great experience.
Firstly, directions were poor. There were two Europcars in the same street in Lisbon, one underneath a shopping centre and almost impossible to find.
The car we were provided with had a massive dent in the passenger door.
However, the worst part was a disingenuous attempt to scam us out of money when we dropped off the car at Faro airport by pointing out a tiny scratch on the front underside of the car and saying we had done this and had to pay plus admin charges. It took half an hour to resolve when they finally realised I was not as gullible as they had hoped and backtracked.

Fast service, great experience

After a terrible experience with Goldcar/Interrent, I decided to book a car at Keddy/Europcar, Funchal Airport.

Expedition at the airport was fast and no extra insurances were offered/demended.

Swift and kind service both at the counter and at the parking lot.

Fast return (took 60 seconds).

All in all great experience.

Avoid these scammers

I have rented a car from Faro Agency for a week in June 2019. I did not purchase their excess insurance (20 euros per day) as I have already my own insurance (costed me 35 euros for the week)

The agent at the pick up noted in the report the major scratches on the body of the car, asked me if I see something else and I showed few scratches that he missed in body of the car. The agent has only looked to the body of the car and not the wheels , interior ...

I have used the car to travel between cities and I always parked it in car parks in each city (I always reverse park) and I did not have any incident during my trip. So there is not way I could have caused new damage to the car .

When I have returned the car, the agent has meticulously checked everything this time, the body of the car but also the wheel alloys and like they magically found scratches of the rear wheel alloys without any evidence that I have caused these. Then they charged me for the "reparations".

In my opinion, Europcar/Keddy tries to attract customer with good renting prices then try to make money by selling their excessively expensive excess insurance. If the customer doesn't get the insurance, they miss on purpose some scratches on the pick up and then they will find them at the collection and they charge him for the damage.

I will never use this company of thieves and scammers again. Avoid at all costs!
