What a great place

What a great place. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Large range of good quality gear. Many thanks to Sam and the young lady (apologies I didn't get your name!).

Best canoe and kayak shop in the country by far!

Best canoe and kayak shop in the country by far! (And I've been to pretty much all of them). Sam really know his stuff and will help you out in choosing the right kit to fit your needs, whether you're a SUP, open, whitewater, or touring paddler!

Website woes

Their website advertised something as being in stock, but once I'd paid it turned out it wasn't. This has happened twice now. Also, they were poor at replying to emails when I chased this up. Not sure if they're set up for online sales?

Not your average kayak outlet......

My son managed to punch a hole in the stern of his Jackson Rockstar (at Lee Valley White Water Centre). Kayak was only 6 months old and buying another was an unpalatable option ( these aren’t cheap! ), especially given how quickly this one had suffered damage.
A brief period of not-quite-panic, a phone call and an awful drive south of the river in scorching summer sun and Sam sorted it all out calmly, efficiently, showing us how it was mended ( essentially soldering with plastic using a crem brulee torch ); Friendly staff, huge barn full of interesting equipment - worth a visit despite the distance - and we returned home with a kayak that turned out to be properly fixed, i.e. very nearly as good as new - Sam even matched the colour!
My son takes the view that there is some kudos in battle damage and that this marks him out as ‘serious’.
Sam was able to help at very short notice and didn’t charge alot for the job. We DID buy the kayak from him, but even so, there was a feeling that he was sympathetic and in our corner; And he offered quite alot of advice which turned out to be useful. Turns out he’s a freestyler, too.
