Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 50 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complain that defective smoke and carbon monoxide alarms trigger false alerts unexpectedly during the night. Reviewers report that these essential safety devices fail prematurely despite the advertised long-term battery lifespan. However, some people mentioned that reaching customer support is extremely difficult and completely ineffective when seeking warranty replacements. Consumers also noted that prolonged delays and unreturned emails leave them deeply frustrated with the lack of help. Many buyers feel that these unreliable products ultimately waste money and compromise their home safety. People advise avoiding this brand entirely due to the persistent malfunctions.

Avoid

Fitted four Kidde KF2 4973 units in September 2022. These are mains powered, interconnected and 9v battery backed up. After just over 1 year I got a 2 second false alarm, changed out all the batteries in case it was them but experienced further false alarms. Due to the short duration of the alarms it took me weeks to find out that three of the four units were faulty. Scrapped and replaced with units recommended by an alarm company. Considered contacting the company but I decided even if they were replaced I wouldn't fit them again. Avoid.

KIDDE SMOKE ALARMS FAULTY WITH NO SUPPORT

Kidde smoke alarms I have, hotwired, keep chirping despite changing duracell batteries out often. Contacted Kidde customer service. Promised immediate service. Nothing. Feared for lives of residents here. Removed junk detectors, went with brand that actually worked. DO NOT BUY ANY KIDDE DETECTORS. THEY ARE POORLY MADE AND KNOWN FOR DEVELOPING PROBLEMS WITHIN THREE TO FIVE YEARS, EVEN WHEN HOTWIRED INTO HOUSE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. SERVICE IS NONEXISTANT. HORRIBLE.

Poor quality plastic :-(

Poor quality plastic :-(

Fitted three Kidde alarms and they lookged great against my white ceilings for a short while but soon started to yellow badly. They now look almost brown and disgusting.

I tried to let Kidde know about this but I was ignored :-(

I suggest you try another company otherwise you too will end up with brown smoke alarms, yuk!

Would NOT buy a Kidde product again!

Would NOT buy a Kidde product again!
About 18 months ago, I bought two Kidde smoke alarms, with 10 year guarantees. One went faulty after only six months - it just kept randomly going off. I contacted Kidde, and even though I had lost my receipt, they sent me a replacement as I had the alarm serial number and manufacture date. Recently, the other alarm went faulty after 18 months (it also kept randomly going off). I contacted Kidde again, but this time they refused to replace it as I didn’t have the receipt. They said that they only replaced the last one as “a gesture of goodwill”.
I won’t be buying anymore Kidde Products ever again, as they appear to be substandard and obviously the customer service has run out of ‘goodwill’ 😡

17/11/23 - now the replacement smoke alarm has gone faulty and so I have thrown it away, despite the 10 year warranty! I have just bought a different brand smoke alarm and hope it lasts longer the the rubbish Kidde sell. Shouldn’t be hard to beat! 🤬

Great service and support.

Bought 2 smoke alarms 18months ago . 1 developed fault this week.
Telephoned their service department for advice and they phoned me back in five minutes.
I gave them some details and a replacement unit was delivered before 9.00am the next day.
Highly recommend them. Excellent service.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT... full stop. These are the worst fire alarms on the market. They constantly experience faults for no reason or signal risk for no reason. Even when wired, they fault. Even when the backup battery, after testing, is adequately charged, they fault. The worst, bar none, that's Kidde.

Faults Constantly.

3 of 4 alarms are just riddled with faults.

Bought 2 of the 10yr sealed alarms. Both began randomly setting off in the night, no smoke, no issues within the home. Then the 2 beeps ever 30 minutes started indicating the batteries were dead...on 8 monrh old NEW alarms. Took back to the shop, had to retyrn/refund. Boughtb2 of the 3yearbones with changable batteries. Up for 6 days and it started doing the exact same issue! Our home is not humid, had them placed in right locations, and yes its cool but its winter. An alarm sending false beeps and battery beeps thats new is not good. And its across 2 different models. Not happy.

Now looking for alternate alarms as cannot he doing with the false alarms. Until we can find a new alarm that isnt a sall fortune, our home will never have Kidde alarms again. Any reviews stating theyre amazing, got very lucky clearly! Some investigating into these issue surely must be done as I am not the only one.

Terrible system

Terrible system! The alarm keeps going off randomly and even if you press the hush button on the initiating unit like it says to do, it still won't stop. It is so loud and blinding (with strobe light) and when you have one unit going off but 20 others in the house (large house) and need to find the one that is causing a problem it's very stressful. Kids cry when this thing goes off because it's so loud. Someone we know fell down the stairs because she was so panicked and couldn't stop it. DO NOT BUY THIS SMOKE OR CARBON MONOXIDE SYSTEM.

Customer care did respond eventually

I purchased a Kidde 10SCO Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm in April 2020. In August 2022 the alarm started sounding in the absence of any smoke or carbon monoxide. Pressing the hush button did not silence the alarm, the only way to stop the continuous beeping and shouting 'Fire' Fire' Fire' was to disconnect the 9volt battery. I returned the item as instructed on the back of the alarm to Kidde Safety Europe Ltd, 1st Floor, Ash House, Littleton Road, Ashford, Middlesex TW15 1TZ, with an accompanying letter explaining the fault and giving my contact details. I don't see the point of giving instructions for where to return the alarm when there is a problem when Kidde Safety Europe Ltd don't respond. They have my postal address, email address and phone number. I intend to inform the parent company in America.
Update on 12 September - I emailed the company yesterday and have just been phoned by the company to say that a replacement alarm is being sent out. As a result I have changed the review from 1 to 5 stars.

Kidde fire alarm not fit for use

I bought and installed a Kidde HomeProtect alarm from The Range 21 Aug 2020. Model WFPV, s/n 1010835, costing £19.99

A few ago its alarm went off in the afternoon giving off a repeated beep and voice alert announcement. There was no fire or smoke, and it turned out to be a false alarm. Some minutes later it went off again and I had to push the 'Hush' Button. But shortly afterwards it again went off -another false alarm.

It was making that much noise I had to remove it from the ceiling, but nothing I could do would stop it going off.

I had lost all confidence in it, and with no battery to remove I had to disable it by turning a slot on the back, which apparently caused it to be permanently disabled.

To me it was obvious it had developed an inherent fault and so rendered not fit for purpose. The paperwork which came with it said in relation to the 10-year warranty "If the product becomes defective, return to your address Mathisen Way, SL3 0HB".

This course of action is not feasible for me, and I am left dissatisfied with the product and the lengths I have to go to get remedial satisfaction i.e. Arrange difficult post and packing, and with no certainty that I will obtain a result.

I phoned the warranty office in England and was fobbed off with excuse that it was probably not cleaned as per instructions to rid it of insects etc. She used the word 'hoovering'.

I have other standalone fire alarms in the house (Not Kidde). All working, and they do not behave this way.

So, It's in the bin, and no more Kidde for me.

Customer service non existent

Customer service non existent. I have tried multiple times and ways including leaving a message with what seems like an answering service.
I can’t understand how a well known brand can be so unresponsive.

Got 2 fire Kidde extinguishers...NO support

I purchased 2 fire Kidde fire extinguishers at Home Depot after the one I had for 10 years had moved from FULL to EMPTY.
I registered at Kidde.com and ask support why the 2 I purchased showed the needle at the lower part of FULL, next to EMPTY, and if the 3 yr warranty would replace them if they fell into the EMPTY before it expired.
On March 4, Kidde support replied, "Thank you for contacting...we will respond as soon as possible."
By March 25, NO ONE responded, so I contacted them again. Now, it is April 10 and NO ONE has replied.
BAD customer service is often the death of a company. Sad, because a fire extinguisher offers peace of mind.

Do not trust this company

Do not trust this company: Recalls, false alarms in the middle of the night, terrible customer support.

I have a box full of junk alarms from these people (3 different models). They last about 6 months and then start triggering at random times, often in the middle of the night. I've gone through at least one recall with them, tried several different models, and while some have been working solidly for years, other units seem to fail quickly.

I reached out to their customer support line asking for advice, and guidance... and didn't even get a response. For a safety-related product and company, this is frankly scary.

BUYER BEWARE

BUYER BEWARE. Kidde carbon monoxide detectors have failed after 9 years of use. They were purchased as they have a 10 year warranty. Kidde ignored my letters.

Worst fire alarms

The fire alarms came with my new house fast forward to five to six years most have gone bad with low battery even if the batteries are new. First time I changed two them to first alert and cut the yellow wire off to stop the daisy chain. When four more died at 12am with low battery I had enough. I went online to Costco & Lowes and bough four Nest connect fire alarms. Now I can actually claim warranty and turn off the low battery if it occurs at night from my phone. Instead of going to the garage and getting my ladder.
Kidde has to the be worst company in the business probably because they have taken over the market with new homes. If your building your house do not put these in the house pay extra and get a smart fire alarm of choice Nest or another brand.

Absolute trash fire alarms

Absolute trash fire alarms. I had two go off at once at 4am while I was SLEEPING and I had to hear false loud beeping for 5 minutes until I could get a stepstool to rip it out of its socket. It made no sense how to eject the batteries so I had to snip all the interior wires and sever all of the components on the motherboard using a knife till it finally died and I threw it away. Landlord came by for a check up not too many weeks later and saw that I had taken them down. He put them up and I left them in hopes that new ones would actually wor-NOPE. 4 AM AGAIN BEEEP BEEEP BEEEEEEPEPPEVEGEHEHS SO ANNOYING. This one I ripped out of the socket and took it to my garage, was so angry I demolished it with a sledge hammer and the feeling of justice finally coarsed through my veins.

TL;DR: I'd rather burn in a gruesome slow death incinerated by the many flames around me than EVER use a product from these complete degenerates. F them, Hope they all die at thatt company in a fire cuz they cant make anything work.
