The test is…questionable. I attempted it twice at the start of my career and was awarded low scores. Good enough to pass but too low to be enrolled in their partner agency, which was fair enough. However, interestingly, the feedback for my second attempt contradicted the feedback for my first.
Nevertheless, over the following two and a half years, I succeeded in joining three remote proofreading agencies. This year, I scrupulously attempted the Knowadays test a third time, as it's only wise to have access to more work. Surprisingly, I was awarded the same score as last. Furthermore, the feedback was quite fussy, to say the least, marking me down for obscure "stylistic" differences that the course doesn't seem to support.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps their marking criteria are specific to a fault, less about proofreading ability and more about matching their preferred style.
The other possibility is that they keep an endless list of potential "errors" on hand so that people will pay up to £100 for repeat attempts. (Honestly, charging anything in this regard is quite telling.) Moreover, if every capable proofreader were to join their partner agency, the proofreaders would dramatically outnumber the available tasks.
In any case, the course itself is still informative. I advise waiting until it's on sale, working through it carefully, skipping the test, and working hard to break into the industry elsewhere. Proofreading is a terrific occupation—my current career offers me significantly more spare time and higher earnings than my previous jobs.

I am so glad I decided to take the Becoming A Proofreader course. I have been constantly impressed with the quick response from everyone at the Tutor Team and grateful for the help and thorough explanations I always receive. The numerous practices throughout the modules have been very valuable, and I have enjoyed every step of the way so far. Thank you Knowadays!

The Knowadays course are pretty comprehensive. Not all that easy, but if one really is open to learning it's worth it.

The Becoming a Proofreader course is comprehensive and well-structured. I liked the included quizzes because they helped me assess my grasp of the course content as I progressed through the lessons. The tutors are true teachers! Whenever I contacted them, one would promptly reply with a helpful, respectful, encouraging response. I always felt that they wanted me to learn and succeed, and I appreciate that they sent me so many mock assignments to work on to prepare for the final. The only improvement I suggest is that the course be made keyword searchable. This would have been helpful to me, and I believe it would be helpful to other learners.

This is my second course from Knowadays after the proofreading course. The Freelance Writing course is beneficial and structured. I believe it is a very useful course.

I work as a proofreader already, and have done for some years, with many comments on the quality of my work. I thought I’d try this, and did enjoy most of the course, but the final test left me bewildered. I did terribly! After some very kindly encouragement from Becca, I’ve decided to have another go, at some point.

I do NOT recommend taking the Knowadays proofreading or editing courses. You will not "become" a proofreader or editor with either.
If you are interested in academic proofreading and/or editing in the academic or scientific fields then you may be happy with the course materials. However, having a degree at a masters level and higher seems to be a prerequisite for obtaining work -- no matter what courses you take as a novice.
The quality of the online course material for both proofreading and editing leaves a lot to be desired. Both courses are filled with errors, especially the editing course which has to make one wonder! Perhaps they need to hire a proofreader for the editing course. They love their "ensures" and "e.g.s," and you will have your fill of them by the end of course/s.
The Try It Yourself and exam materials are infuriating. They ask for one thing in the instructions and then provide answers (or inline comments) that defy explanation. Do not attempt anything to do with fact checking because you will NOT be able to compete with the tutors who I swear, are out to make you look like a fool.
I understand that if you pass both the proofreading and editing courses with a score of 80+, you will be eligible to work for FREE for Proofed until you complete a ten-document trial period. Then you will be able to work at a cut-rate fee and compete with hundreds of other Knowadays graduates. The work will most likely include ESL resumes and academic documents for university students.
I thought I did enough research before I paid for the Knowadays "bundled" courses. Needless to say, I did not. I wasted my money. It would be much better to join an editorial or proofreading organization and get to know the industry from people who have established careers and are qualified to give good advice as to where to invest money for education to "become" a proofreader or editor.
Based on Knowaday's reply, below, I confirm that my review is accurate. No one will become a proofreader or editor by taking the Knowadays courses. If anyone would like to pay the money and experience the frustration, I invite them to do so. Buyer beware.

I honestly can’t thank Becca, Laura, and Emily enough for their incredible support throughout my journey. Becca was there when I needed her most, offering not only expert advice but also heartfelt encouragement that kept me going during the tough moments. Her belief in my potential really gave me the strength to push forward, and it made all the difference. Laura and Emily were equally amazing, always ready with thoughtful advice and genuine care. Thanks to their support, I passed the proofreading course with distinction and am now moving on to complete the editor course. I’m beyond grateful for everything they’ve done for me and can’t recommend this service enough to anyone looking for real, heartfelt support on their learning journey. Thank you all so much!

First of all, I loved the content of the course. Everything was explained clearly and throroughly. Almost every time I had a question, it would be answered in the next paragraph! This points to how well this course was written and layed out.
The tutors were extremely helpful and answered any questions I had (the few that were not answered in the course itself) within hours - if not minutes. I highly recommend this course to anyone dreaming of becoming an editor!

The course material was easy to understand without needed live instruction, and I liked that is you did need help, someone was always available. The tools needed to complete the course were free and easy to use. I enjoyed the whole experience.

This course is highly recommended! I was able to study at my own pace. The material was extremely informative and the tutor team were amazing. And I did not, at anytime, feel like I was on my own.

The Knowadays learning tool is structured and the content is comprehensive. The resources and reference materials are great. The lessons are clear, and specific references and proofreading rules are made for the language, whether US or UK English.

This program does more than just outline the principles of a freelance business. It makes you do the work. I had to consider how serious I was about freelancing as a career. Once I decided, I had to dig in to get the answers. (It was tough, but well worth it.) It also, brought things to my attention I hadn't thought about before. I read through the program once, then I decided to dig in. I am still working through it, applying all the applicable instructions.
All in all, I am glad I purchased the program and I believe my business will be built on a solid foundation.

The course was fine, but there were a lot of typos, which is odd, since they also have courses for proofreading and editing. I did let them know.
I'm glad to hear the course is cleaned up.
Cheers!

Working through the 'Becoming a Proofreader' course was a brilliant experience! The course is very engaging and covers a lot of information, so it's definitely great value for money (especially given that some other proofreading courses cost thousands!). I also appreciated the course's advice regarding the practical side of freelance proofreading (e.g. client communication).
The Knowadays tutors are also really supportive and helpful. When I emailed the tutor team to ask for clarification on some of the course material, I received a very detailed and friendly reponse (thanks Simon!).
I would definitely recommend Knowadays if you're thinking about working as a proofreader – or if you want to improve your communication/writing skills!

Did not realise what was involved in proofreading professionally. I was a typist for 20 years plus, accurracy essential. The course IS harder than I expected, BUT, well written, easy to follow, quizzes. Began the course last year, stopped due to ill health, told to complete at my pace. The course is keeping me occupied (60% now complete) and could give me a part time income. GO FOR IT

The feedback given on the tests was very detailed, which is of course very useful for future progress as well. Thanks!
