Bought a motorhome for 38k in August

Bought a motorhome for 38k in August, too much wrong with it so went back within 30days to get money back , James said not giving it back so I spent another 2k on a different motorhome, 6months later wanted to trade for caravan, it was looked at and it had loads of damp ,the original tyres 11yrs old and perished,
It had a habitation check and an MOT in Sept as I have the receipts, don't know how it passed either, PLEASE don't deal with this company, rip off and didn't return any money , I lost 10k in 6 months 😭😭, they are the worst company I've ever dealt with , feel free to sue me for libel if I'm lieing, had to edit this post due to his response, he is telling lies, go there at your own peril ,you have been warned ⛔⛔

Love our new MH

We picked up our new MH 2 week ago. Absolutely delighted with the service we have received, from the initial phone call about the MH right to picking it up. The team at Lancaster MH and Caravans are all very nice and friendly but it was Tim who dealt with our purchase. When we went to view the MH it was in very good condition, Tim left us to it to look around it at our leisure (we took a long time and never felt rushed). Once we had decided to purchase, Tim valued our current MH and we arranged a part exchange. Like I said, we have just picked it up, it is absolutely spotless inside and out. Tim dealt with the paperwork, and sorted out the tax, it was all very seamless. We couldn’t recommend Lancaster MH and Caravans more highly. We have just had our first trip away and everything worked perfectly. Love our new MH. Thank you. Nicky & Mark

Avoid

Should've spotted the signs when I picked up my van and it didn't even have enough fuel for the short journey home.

Other pre-handover checks clearly weren't completed, leading to multiple after sale problems. Initially helpful but soon lost interest and moved to deny and deflect mode.

Honestly.....stay well away!

UPDATE: I also notice that two of the recent 5 star reviews on Trustpilot were posted by users sharing the same name as the two Directors of this company. It seems highly unlikely these are based on a genuine experience.

Disappointing experience

we travelled a few hours to see a motorhome. when we got there they did not seem to really know what they were talking about, they were pretty unhelpful and unknowledgeable about the one we were looking at. I see this has been mentioned before quite alot of times in other reviews, so i probably should have looked before we went. It just seemed a waste of time and diesel to go somewhere not really interested in selling us a high value item

They know little about their stock

Called in to see a motorhome we had seen on their website and researched on the Sunlight.de website too, so we knew quite a bit about it before we went. We asked LMC general questions about where things were, leisure battery, water tanks etc, but they could not tell us anything. They seemed to not know the vehicles they were selling as an agent/franchise for the German manufacturer. We were not keen on the way they started to handle a potential part exchange and we decided to leave and not return, but at least we know and can share our not so good experience

The 10 hour trip was worth it

We completed a 10 hour round trip to look at 4 motorhomes we liked the look of on the website. I spoke to Craig the day before who confirmed they were all in stock and the website was up to date. (This was not the case for other dealerships we visited).
Upon our arrival we met Craig who is such a lovely guy. Very friendly, helpful, and left us to look around the motorhomes with no pressure at all. Craig answered all our questions, and took time to go through things throughly. When asked he called me back on several occasions, nothing was too much trouble for him.
The day we went to collect our motorhome Craig went through everything, a full handover was given. The lady on reception is lovely and friendly, and offered us hot drinks. The showroom and facilities are really nice and there’s a good choice of stock. We met different members of the team who were all very friendly and helpful.

We are so please with our motorhome, after months and months of searching and going to numerous different dealerships I totally recommend going to see Craig and the team. Thanks guys.

Great company offering a great service

Outstanding Service from Craig Yates.

I recently purchased a new caravan and had the pleasure of dealing with Craig throughout the entire process. From our first meeting to the final handover, Craig was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He answered all my questions with patience and professionalism, making the experience completely enjoyable.

Craig went above and beyond to ensure the sale went smoothly, and I couldn’t be happier with my new caravan. If you’re looking for a home on wheels, I highly recommend speaking to Craig – you won’t be disappointed.

Our experience: SCAMMED OUT OF £5,000

In March 2024, we enquired about a new Sunlight motorhome from Lancaster Motorhomes and Caravans, (LMC). LMC sent us an email from Sunlight, who clearly stated they could provide a T69LC Adventure Edition (AE), the top version of the T69LC, due in production April 2024.
Lancaster Motor Company (LMC) called us to discuss this vehicle and offered it to us for a final price of £67,800, which we accepted.
However, because the vehicle in question was going into production just a few weeks later, LMC insisted on an immediate deposit to secure the vehicle, promising an invoice to follow. We therefore paid them £5,000 that day and LMC followed our payment with another email clearly relating to an AE.
We chased several times for an invoice. When it did eventually arrive, it was attached to the original email from Sunlight. This email clearly stated that our vehicle, an AE, was "on order and in production", and later LMC confirmed its delivery from Sunlight to them, LMC, at the beginning of May.
The invoice we received was, in their own words, just a 'basic' invoice; LMC stating that it was "NOT COMPLETE". The version (specification) we agreed on, an AE, was not mentioned anywhere. We questioned this omission but received no response. LMC implied we would get an accurate invoice but this has never materialised.
We heard very little from LMC, until, at the end of June 2024, some 2 months after our AE was due to arrive, we were advised that a motorhome had arrived. The vehicle was they offered was a BASE model T69LC, together with a nominal ADDITIONAL £5,200 of extras over the quoted price for the AE! When they sent us the spec of the vehicle, LMC ADMITTED it was NOT the AE we were expecting. Apparently it was a "compromise" from Sunlight. We were never consulted about any changes and therefore we could never have agreed to them.
We refused this substitute vehicle, and requested our money be returned. They have ignored countless emails since then, simply refusing to even discuss the issue.
Now, 14 months from the start, our version, an AE, has yet to arrive, but LMC are adamant we will never get our £5,000 deposit returned.
We believe we have been deliberately misled. We have sought legal advice and court appears to be the only option left to recover our money.
This account reflects our personal experience, and we are sharing our story to raise awareness of this company's practices.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to…

Just wanted to say a big thank you to the Lancaster Motorhome team for a hassle free purchase of our first motorhome.

Our initial meet and greet was with Craig who was excellent, no pressure on the sale, informative and honest, picked up a few issues with the van and these were dealt with. Everything dealt with a smile.

When Craig was away all matters where picked up by James, this being a substantial purchase for us meant that we asked a LOT of questions and they were all answered by him, thanks for you help here.

Finally hand over was completed by Brian and again everything dealt with professionally and efficiently.

As with everything we do not know what the new van will entail, and sure we will have a few problems but i am sure they will be dealt with in the same manner.

Thank you and let our adventures begin.

Nothing honest or genuine at this company.

Where do I start with this?
We purchased a motorhome from this company in June 2024. I haven't left a review before now because I have been trying to resolve a lot of issues since purchase and wanted to wait until this was done so I could post an honest review.
When we purchased the motorhome Craig (the salesman) was great, couldn't have been more helpful. We picked the motorhome up on a Friday morning. We live 4hrs away from Lancaster and decided to stay for the weekend in Blackpool to try it out.
After we had pitched up we could smell gas and had a leak.
As luck would have it a mobile caravan mechanic was working on the caravan next to us an he repaired it for us.
This was the first of many issues.
We found a light with no cover and exposed wires. Fire extinguisher, smoke and CO2 alarms were out of date, none of which were noted on the habitation report despite them being safety issues.
This made me start to question other things that should have been done.
The engine was supposed to have been serviced but it hadn't been, as the oil and air filters hadn't been changed.
We believe (although we can't prove it) that the mot was false, as four of the marker lights were out, LED's in the centre brake light were out. The pump for the windscreen washer was not working. We have had to change the brake pads all round and a front wheel bearing at the cost of £700.
All of these issues are mot failures yet it was passed with not one single advisory.
We decided to have our own habitation report done by an independent company and the difference was black and white.
The biggest issue on this report for us, was the damp readings.
We had one area under the seats that we could put our fingers into it was that rotten. We have had a quote of £1800 +vat for the work.
We decided (as it was still within 30 days of purchase) to claim our right under the 2015 consumer rights act to return the vehicle for a full refund. This is where the fun started.
James (The owner) was never available talk to us on the many calls that were made. We were told by Craig that they wouldn't take the vehicle back, but we could book it in and they would sort the issues. After what had transpired, we didn't trust them to do the work properly.
We sort legal advice and was told that we were well within our rights to return the vehicle and that if it went to court it was almost certain we would win.
We relayed this to Craig and the email we received back said, "We welcome any legal dispute, we will stand our ground for as many years as you want to go."
Before we had made a decision on what to do, we had two very close family members passed away.
Once the funerals had been carried out we decided it was time to revisit this problem.
We had had time think about things and decided that we liked the motorhome and the layout suited us and after what we had just been through, a legal battle was not really what we needed at this time.
We decided to speak to Lancaster motorhomes and try to come to a fair and amicable solution.
We proposed that, if we had the damp work carried out and Lancaster motorhomes paid the bill, we would walk away and we would cover the costs of all the other issues.
I got a response from James (although it came from Craig's email address) point blank refusing the offer and welcoming a legal battle.
For two reasons we have decided to keep the motorhome.
1) after the two passing's and the stress that, and this has caused we just don't have the energy for a long drawn out legal battle.
2)We don't have the finances for it.
This is what they are banking on. They will take a legal battle all the way in the hope that the average person hasn't got the finances to pay for expensive solicitors, and will back down.
So I urge anyone who is contemplating buying a motorhome or caravan from this company, to please look somewhere else and don't let what has happened to us, happen to you.
It will ruin your whole experience and leave you feeling cheated.

I could not fault Lancaster caravans &…

I could not fault Lancaster caravans & motorhomes the whole experience of buying a caravan from them was flawless, Brian Caldy especially was lovely with my mum & exceeded all our expectations. We travelled from Wrexham to see the caravan & the whole team were a joy to do business with from start to finish. They supplied us with everything we asked for & Adam the delivery guy was lovely too. We couldn’t be happier you guys know everything there is to know about customer service & I know from experience customers can be very demanding. Even the owners handbook was filled with post it notes so we could find the page we needed easily. Top marks.

Not as professional as they appear

I am writing this review as I am looking for a motorhome again and don't want anyone else to go through the experience that I had last year with Lancaster Motorhomes & Caravans.
Salesman Craig couldn't have been more helpful when I went to view. He promised that the van would be prepared and serviced and I assumed that a dealer like this would have no problem doing this.
No real handover was done and as I came to drive and use the van I started to find fault after fault. I could write pages listing everything but the most serious problem was binding brakes making it unsafe to drive. This, along with the air-con not working and rust coming from cracks appearing in filler in the bodywork weren't covered by their warranty. They did agree to look at the long list of other problems but on returning the van to them they took days to then say they were waiting for parts and I'd have to return it again in a few weeks - this happened twice. I ended up having to use a faulty van and spending ages chasing them up and was totally fed up with the whole experience.
The van was advertised with full service history but nothing within the last 7 years was provided. They use a different garage for servicing work and blamed them for this lack of paperwork. As the van has a cam belt it is critical that this gets changed at least every 5 years. It took me months to establish that only an oil change had been done. When questioned about the cam belt Craig became very personal and unprofessional. I even suggested we split the cost of this £500+ job but he constantly referred to his boss James who never introduced himself but I assume was the important looking man wearing white trousers but I was told that he would't pay anything. I got a reputable garage to do the cam belt along with a proper service and spent over £1000 getting the van so I could sell it on as I was fed up of returning it and still having faults.
They also left a sale-or-return contract in the paperwork with all the previous owners personal details showing that they made £7000 on the sale despite never even actually owning the van.

From start to finish a pleasure to deal…

From start to finish a pleasure to deal with. Spoke to Steve ,the owner, on the phone about the 2 caravans we were interested in and he gave a totally honest review. Travelled nearly 220 miles to visit site and were looked after by Craig, a super guy who never pressures you. Brought the caravan we liked most and picked it up today, everything they said was sorted and a few extra things as well. Full service , valet and relaxed hand over. Top people to deal with.
