Enjoyable trip on the river lee …
I saw the poster on the rail just by where the boat was moored next to a carpark in ware hertfordshire. I looked it up on their website on Thursday the trip was for 2pm sunday 26th July unfortunately it was fully booked. On the day it was beautiful weather so I took the chance ,some one may have cancelled. I asked the crew if they were still waiting for someone and they said they were waiting for a group of three. They tried to make contact but got no reply 2pm passed and I was invited onto the boat, my hunch had paid off. The boat was a large wide boat with tables and chairs for you to enjoy the view. It only cost £17.50 for a 2 and half hour trip. We left Ware and headed south towards Stanstead abbots. There was a commentary for some of the time ,that stretch is particularly picturesque and it was delightful in the afternoon sun. The crew were friendly and chatted about the trip and they served reasonably priced drinks. I had a cup of tea and a beaker of orange juice.£2.50 each. We arrived at the lock and it was an experience to pass through it feeling safe at all times. We were all encouraged to take photos and videos with our phones. We nearly got to Stanstead abbots after an hour and turned round and headed back to ware through the lock again . The people on board were of all ages and were willing to chat.We arrived back at ware and passed our mooring and went on to just before the next lock which apparently is out of action hopefully fixed this year. They will then be able to have trips going north in the future. On our way back to our mooring we passed a large group of swans and their cygnets.back at the mooring we disembarked and headed home. I was so lucky to have got my place on that boat in that beautiful weather,a fantastic way to spend a summers afternoon i will certainly be looking out for their poster for their next trip.
