On the whole an excellent tour only marred by a lack of free time. Many would have liked a free afternoon and few people seemed to enjoy the visit to the fort which had little connection to the subject matter and was held after a day of walking. We were tired, there was no where to sit and the guide had poor English. A free afternoon would have been a much preferable alternative. I also felt that the attitude of our two drivers, Sandra and Leah, was not as good as previous experiences, they seemed to be a little sullen and we felt things were “our fault”. Not a patch on Mark & Nick who we had on our Colditz tour last year - they were always cheerful, put us first all the time and the coach was spotless. I did appreciate that the hotels used did have restaurants for evening meals and the breakfasts were very good.

Very interesting tour

A very good tour visiting interesting sites of historical significance with an expert guide giving an informative commentary. The arrangements for the tour went very smoothly the only downside was the amount of travelling without a break on the longer journeys

Norman the Guide was very good with a great deal of knowledge and passion about the subject. His photographic handouts were excellent as they put the locations we were at into context. The highlight of the trip was two WWII submarines and the other museums and places visited were relevant and interesting too. With the distance in mind, the amount of time spent on the coach was significant with the minimum amount of time travelling about 3 hours up to 8 hours+. I would definitely recommend paying extra for the Luxuria coach as it gives significantly more room. However, on this occasion it was one of the older coaches and the seats were uncomfortable for long periods of time and the seat belts were tight (we are plus size models) All 3 hotels we stayed in were excellent and comfortable. All provided excellent breakfasts and evening meals. The receptions were really helpful, including the hotel in Bremen which lent me a wheelchair after I broke my ankle. Both of the coach drivers were excellent at driving and manoeuvring the vehicle. However, they could have been more personable with the customers. It felt as though we were an inconvenience to them and on one occasion I was shouted at by one of the drivers. Some customer service training would go far. In contrast the return feeder coach drivers Matt & Dan were excellent and recognised that the customer experience was as important if not more important than the driving.

Great seeing the U-Boats, and everything else.

A thorough review of the U Boat war. David Lonsdale was an excellent guide, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, helpful and relaxed and the brochure which he produced for the tour was by far the best that I have seen for similar tours. The mainstay hotel in Bremen was of a very good standard and while it did not serve evening meals its central location meant that there were plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Wonderful trip overall, coach team and guide were fantastic. Let down was return transfer to London. Delayed due to driver change over who was late. Missed my train connection to Plymouth and had to sort seat on night train to Cornwall. The service was crowded and not able to rest up. Arrived in Plymouth at 6.05am Monday. Not happy with this aspect.

One of the best Leger Battlefield tours I've been on. Pretty much everything is on theme with some great excursion content. The U-boats are, of course, the highlight. Those German Technik museums are wonderful.

An excellent trip. Very interesting and informative. The battlefield guide, Gary, was superb. He was very knowledgeable and very entertaining. He took the time to speak with everyone on the coach about what their interests were and what they wanted to get out of the tour and made the whole experience memorable. I'm looking forward to my next battlefield tour with Leger and hoping that Gary might just be the guide on that one too!

A brilliant tour visiting and exploring the U-boat role during both wars. Our Tour Guide, Gary Ashley was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge. The hotel in Bremen was good and well located in the city centre with a number of bars and restaurants all within easy reach. The hotel in Ghent for overnight stays at start and finish was also good with a nice restaurant offering for dinner. Highly recommend this tour.

Disappointed to stay in Nazareth twice , breakfast poor . There is nothing to do there in the day/evening . Bremen was three hours from Wilhelmshaven and Kiel , so maybe we could have stayed somewhere a lot closer . The tour was great but Fort Kugelbake was a 'stocking filler' .

An alternative view of a story you think you know.

The tour leader Norman was knowledgable and clearly knew the subject. This was an informative tour and I learned so much about this aspect of both world wars. The vists to the U-Boats was an amazing experience. Although the journeys were long, the time passed quickly and the friendly crew made us as comfortable as possible.

Firstly the Guide Norman was excellent, very informative but also very good and helpful with the whole group, drivers too were very good. The Trip itself was brilliant .The only negative issue was the first and last hotel. Same hotel, no tea making facilities of any kind in the rooms , after along first day and along last day, quite a few of us felt that this was an issue and was needed at these intervals in the Trip.
