I didn’t start Liquid Laboratories because I wanted to “disrupt the industry” or “innovate the space.” I started it because, after three decades in the lab, I was bored of compromise. I joined BASF in the late ’80s, back when lab coats were still starched and the coffee was terrible. I spent most of my time in the refinishing product development department, working on car care products. Over the years, I had a hand in creating formulas that are now sitting on the shelves of just about every garage, workshop, and detailing bay in the country. Household names, they call them. And yet, the same thing happened time and again: the accountants would get involved. Suddenly, the great product we’d built would be “revised” — not because it didn’t work, but because it could be made 4p cheaper per litre. That kind of thing grates on you after a while. I probably would have left it at grumbling into my coffee… if it wasn’t for my son. He told me, “If you know how to make it better, why don’t you just do it yourself?” And honestly? I didn’t have a good answer. So here we are. Liquid Laboratories is my way of doing things the way they should be done — not the cheapest way, not the quickest way, but the right way. Chemistry Made Clear, without the boardroom shortcuts.
