This place is gorgeous

This place is gorgeous! Hidden from view by hedges, it’s an island of quiet in an otherwise bustling city. The furnishings, art, thoughtful upgrades, and communication with the host were exceptional. This was my best experience on Kindred!

Kindred has been amazing…

Kindred has been amazing to deal with as an assistance to hosting guests in our home. when we had an emergency arise for our guests, they responded promptly and supportively to get our guests settled and to assist us with solving the problem. I would highly recommend them as a company for anyonev considering joining the kindred community!

Genuinely changed the way how I travel

I’ve been using Kindred since last year and it has honestly changed the way I travel. I’ve done longer swaps, but also hosted people while staying elsewhere, which allowed me to accumulate credits quite quickly.

The concierge and cleaning services have both been excellent, and overall the experience has been seamless. Even when a guest accidentally broke something in my flat, Kindred handled it immediately and refunded me without any hassle.

What I love most is the feeling of staying in real homes and hosting others in mine. Every guest I’ve had has been lovely, often leaving kind notes or small gifts.

I really hope they maintain this level of quality, as so far I’ve been extremely happy with the experience.

Kindred failed to ensure proper cleaning and care of our home

Our first Kindred experience was excellent, which is why we trusted the service again. Unfortunately, our second experience was very disappointing.

The Kindred cleaner did not wash the used towels and bed linen, and the home was returned dirtier than we had left it.

The most serious issue was damage to our wooden floor. We had clearly stated in our house rules that nothing wet should be used on the floor. We also had a steam cleaner in the house that should not have been used. Despite this, the cleaner used it and damaged parts of the floor.

Kindred apologised and said we could file a claim if we could prove the damage, but the problem is not only proof. It is also the stress, time, and back-and-forth you have to deal with afterwards.

My advice to other hosts is to document everything carefully before each stay, especially delicate surfaces. And if cleaning instructions really matter in your home, I would seriously consider arranging your own cleaner instead of relying on Kindred’s. Based on our experience, Kindred does not seem to make sure their cleaners have properly read and understood the house rules and care instructions for each home.

No Support if Home Damaged

If you put your home on the market and something breaks, Kindred will do everything not to reimburse you. There is no flexibility and no support to home owners. We had our home left as a mess and furniture damage without Kindred stepping up to offer any compensation.

A very rigid approach to business

A very rigid approach to business, thought of hosting with them but they made the whole process so unnecessarily complicated; also their service fees are very high (£50+) and the properties available are very few so not sure those credits are really worth much even if you take into account unpaid tax (which could expose you to some liability too). Decided to cancel my account and not to use, too much hassle for very little gain

Some things to consider before using Kindred

I lent out my space a ton this summer and built up a decent amount of credits. However, any time I’ve tried to use them in the last several months there would be no responses from hosts or in this latest case, a last minute cancellation right as I’m about to start my trip. This has definitely knocked my confidence in using this platform, but luckily they did make good on their Trip Cancellation Policy so I'm adjusting my original review. I'm still not fully sold on this platform, especially considering how much money they make on service fees when you could in theory be making this money yourself using Airbnb with the same guarantees safeguarding your home. However, since Airbnb is truly evil I do prefer this platform over them. Most of the guests I had were great but I did have one that was less than ideal. It was much better in the beginning but that's always how things go. It's a great alternative to Airbnb but not nearly as reliable as booking a hotel or anything like that so keep it mind.

Kindred does not protect hosts, do not list your precious home

I hosted twice on Kindred, and both experiences were negative. The first guest consumed over $150 worth of food without permission. The second guest had a poor attitude, making the stay uncomfortable and unpleasant. Allowing strangers to stay in my $3.5M, 4-bedroom home under these conditions was a mistake, and I regret joining the platform.

Kindred’s customer service was entirely unhelpful in both cases. More concerning, hosts are not able to leave reviews for guests, which means there is no way to warn other hosts or create accountability. The system offers little to no protection for hosts, and based on my experience, the platform does not appear to prioritize host interests. I would strongly caution anyone considering listing a valuable home here.

Stand out 5* service from Kindred support

The reviews here could not be more diverse but certainly our experience so far has been very positive. We joined last year as away for 3 weeks and immediately had 3 groups book stays.
Two were great, all went smoothly, left flowers and wine and lots of thanks.
The third group I don’t think were bad people but they did have a lot of booze delivered and sadly we ended up with a red wine stain on our cream lounge carpet. Kindred Support were amazing, I could not fault them. Immediate response every time, always empathetic and polite. Requested carpet cleaning first that sadly did not remove it, so they agreed to covering the full cost of replacement and it was a big room.
We got the work done and full funds through straight away. As a result of how this was handled it’s given us huge confidence to host again.
I note quite a few negative comments re cleaners here and we used our own, so I can’t comment on that, other than we were refunded £195 promptly after each clean (it’s a big house so I think this is the max)
We have not stayed anywhere yet but we have 16 credits so plan to this year, so can’t comment on that yet. I have had a couple of hosts not reply to enquiries which is a shame but again Kindred Conceirge has been supportive. There are also quite a lot of second home / rental properties on the site and I think it would be preferable if it was people’s genuine homes only, but it’s easy enough to tell the difference.
Overall I’ve been very impressed.
