Not fantastic. Poor service but good prices.

This review is expressly my opinion.

Unfriendly bunch who made my partner feel quite unwelcome despite her being an expert in collectible antiques and militaria - I believe that our appearance was judged before our character. She was treated like she didn’t exist even as she tried to engage with the man behind the counter who would look neither of us in the eye, barely responded to my questions and huffed and puffed over me wishing to look at some items.

The items I bought were of good quality and price, though the other items available weren’t labelled particularly well and some were stored in some not particularly great ways.

I have been a collector for many years and this level of service was unusually disappointing. However, I must confess that the prices and selection in the shop was good.

Only Silver for the London Medal Company?

Competitive pricing and the charge for postage and packing was not exorbitant. The medal looked good online. Not quite so good in the light of day but nevertheless is fine condition. Better than what was on offer from my usual supplier which prompted an online search and resulted in my first transaction with ‘The London Medal Company Ltd’.
Website was easy to use and purchase effected speedily without difficulty. An email confirmation of the order was sent timeously; the order was being processed and “we will notify you” when completed.

There was no further contact by email and it was only by chance that I was at home at 12:45h on Tuesday 29th July to sign for delivery by Royal Mail. I have no complaints about the time taken for dispatch and delivery but I abhor businesses that say they will do something and don’t!

Beautifully framed medal collections

I have recently collected 5 beautifully framed collections of my families 1st and 2nd WW medals. They are of the highest standard incorporating supporting paperwork and photos.
Richard Colman advised me, helped me and did a wonderful job for which I am very grateful.
The cost is fair considering the intricate work involved and they are a wonderful legacy to my ancestors.

This is not a place I would recommend to anyone to have their medals mounted. Online I was led to believe that the price was £12 per medal on attending was told that it was £15 per medals but that it would be 4weeks before they would be ready( in retrospect this may have simply been down to Trooping the Colour ) however I was told that they don’t do it on site but send them off to someone. Got a phone call 3 weeks later ( after trooping) to say they were ready. Not made at all welcome on re attending, waited patiently whilst the shop chap dealt with another customer, actually heard the customer say whilst waiting to look at some medallions “I’m not going to steal them I’m in the service” handed my ticket to shop assistant who after giving me a very unwelcome look saying” I didn’t realise you were here to collect something “ on giving me my medals which had been wrapped in a single plastic binder sleeve, which appeared rather poor considering that my five medals represented my service of which I’m quite proud. On examination I noticed that the KC medal was sitting at an angle slightly on top of the preceding medal. It looked like that whoever mounted them only measured the backing for the size of the first 4 not realising that the Kings is slightly larger and had just squeezed it on. I pointed this out to the chap behind the counter who was doing a great impression of a pub landlord not used to seeing or dealing with people of colour. I pointed out the poorly fitted medal as being rather poor sloppy work and asked his opinion to which he replied “ if you don’t like it, we’ll send it back” I asked the man if he was the manager to which he said he’s the “Temp” on asking for the manager I was told he wasn’t there asked if I could phone him to which I was told to leave my number and he would call me back. I thought I would rather not trust this establishment with my medals or my mobile. I then asked about what the cloth pouch that they normally come with and was assured I would get when I handed them in? He then reluctantly gave me one. I was totally disgusted by the sloppy workmanship, unprofessional attitude and behaviour of the staff. I have since challenged friend who recommended this shop for him to admit he had never been in it and had only recommended it based on Google reviews. I have learned my lesson and should have gone back to a professional tailor. Since then have had the medals remounted properly and professionally (far cheaper as well, plus tailor also pointed out that the bar on the KC had been slightly bent to squeeze it on

Excellent service for medal mounting

I recently needed a complex set of medals mounted. The job was done to a high standard and within a very reasonable time frame. The staff are very knowledgable and couldn't have been more helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending their services.

Do not use for mounting medals

Really appalling service experienced today with a attempt to have my medals mounted. Told a month ago to come back when the person who does the work returns. Now a vast backlog with, “not sure we’re taking orders now”. I have now missed my opportunity to go elsewhere. Wish I hadn’t encountered this shop.

Great service

Great service, I rang the London medal company and bought a medal over the phone at 14.00, the medal arrived in the midlands at 10.00 the next morning I was apprehensive as I was spending a large amount and hadn’t used them before. I am very happy with my medal and their service.

Totally shocked at the barrage of abuse…

Totally shocked at the barrage of abuse between this dealer and his street neighbour.

They are both miserable have no time for you to browse ‘unless as they both say’ you buying .

There stock carries a lot of fakes and it’s sad to say I don’t think they get that themselves .

Avoid both shops and don’t waste your good money . Uk or visitors .

Roan and Richard have a fantastic range…

Roan and Richard have a fantastic range of stock, starting from small affordable pieces to World Class museum quality pieces. Originally I only popped in to have a look around, and some 8 years later I am still comming back to add to my collection or sell pieces that I no longer want.

Great company

I've ordered from The London Medal Company numerous times. They have a superb range medals and other militaria ranging in price from a few pounds up to tens of thousands of pounds that covers a very wide range of countries and eras. Where possible, they various additional information from sources including as Ancestry and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. This provides a wonderful context for the medals etc and links back to those to whom they were awarded.

Their website is excellent and easy to use; I particularly like that, unlike some other companies, their website is not clogged up with sold products. Once ordered, the items is straight off the site. Which avoids wasting time searching through sold items. They ship quickly and securely, I've never been messed around by them with late shipping or similar issues.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone from those with a passing interest through to experienced collectors with large budgets.

Excellent resource for British Gallantry Medals

I've been working on a project where I'm creating a register of all surviving medals and groups containing QSA/KSA/China medals to SJAB.
Not only has The London Medals company site been of great help with my research (the write-ups are particularly lengthy and well informed on some listings) but the chaps in the shop are more than willing to part with nuggets of information!
I have also purchased two Rifle Brigade Ashantee War Medals form the site, as I'm also interested in this period.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend both the website and the shop.

One of the best sites around if you want to buy war medals.

I don't think there is anything I don't like about this site. Simple to use, uncluttered and fast. I am particularly interested in British Medals from 1914-39 and I've been recommending it to every one of my fellow collectors.
I've purchased twice via the site and received my medals in the post the next day.
I'd like to see a more detailed search function in place (I have asked them about this) and apparently it's on the way, so very happy!
