THE STAFF WERE PROFESSIONAL, EFFICIENT AND FRIENDLY AND i CANNOT PRAISE THEM ENOUGH. WONDERFUL PLACE - WE WILL RETURN.

A lovely building in a tranquil…

A lovely building in a tranquil setting.
My boyfriend and I went to stay here for just one night as a little treat after the lockdown grounding we all had to endure. Upon arriving we were welcomed and shown to our room which was comfortable with a lovely view of the well maintained garden.
At dinner i was quite dissatisfied with my 'amazing' food and had to send my starter back and select a new one as i just couldn't eat the hard as nails smoked chicken, all was well with my next starter although i have to be honest and say the food was ok overall, although my boyfriend didn't recieve the desert he ordered, but he was ok with the one he got he said, i wouldn't have said it was one of the best restaurants in gloucestershire. I've had far better meals at far cheaper establishments, but all said it was ok it wasn't bad.
We returned to our room after dinner to relax and unwind before going for sleeps in the very comfy bed (already tested earlier in the evening).
At about 11pm my boyfriend and i showered for bed and upon cleaning his teeth, he found himself stood in a rather large puddle. I called down to reception and by the time i was off the phone, he'd fixed the issue himself (a completely disconnected waste pipe from the sink) i informed him that we now had to move rooms as a health and safety precaution, he wasn't too excited about this as we were both now ready for bed.
The concierge came up to the room to help us with our bags and show us to our new room, which was now a suite. When he arrived my boyfriend wished to show him what the problem was and also pointed out another small issue in the poorly recently refitted bathroom, to which the concierge replied 'well we've had other guests since the refit, nobody else has had any issues' my other half didn't like this response and felt as if he'd implied that we'd done it on purpose.
Niether of us wanted to change rooms at this point it was just hassle and we wanted to go to sleep.
The concierge told us it was no problem and we'll now be upgraded to a suite anyway, woo hoo, i just wanted a bed. So off we went to the suite and the bed was awful, way harder than the first one in the room with the faulty bathroom. Neither of us got a decent nights sleep. In the morning the receptionist told us we would be emailed soon and given a complimentary nights stay as a show of good will and also discounted our food bill a small amount, whilst i wasn't expecting this i thought it was very kind of them.
However weeks went by and i called them four or five times to see if we would ever get our complimentary nights stay, i was told that the receptionist had broken her leg and was working from home, but she would be emailing me in the next few days, alas more weeks went by and now i have given up on it, it would seem they lied to me and had no intention of the good will gesture.
I don't now wish to return to the hotel anyway, as i think i already said i've had far better experiences for a lot less money and i don't think the hotel (as a business) is in the class of establishment that the owners and staff believe it to be.
If it was then surely they would have honoured this committment as you would expect.
It's a nice old building in a nice setting, thats about it. There's many of those with better food and better service for this price point.
In closing, don't believe the hype, if you want a mediocre stay for your money in a lovely quiet spot in the cotswolds then this could be the place for you.
However if you want excellent food and a good nights sleep, keep looking, we didn't find that here.

Just a quick update since 2022, when these reviews were placed we were informed by the management that we could get another short stay, gratuit!!!!
It never happened, not surprising.
