Standing on the coast in Okinawa, watching the ocean with nowhere to be, we started thinking about how rarely we actually slow down. How much gets lost when we don’t. Later that same trip, we stopped outside a small workshop. Through the open door, an older man was bent over a table, working a piece of wood with slow, deliberate strokes. His shop had been open since 1937. He wasn’t moving carefully because he had to — he chose to. Because for him, the way a thing is made is inseparable from the thing itself. We stood there for a long time. Then we came home and built Lovescribed.
