Rough handling of my puppy

Very disappointed. I moved to MacLellan as they are independent. At my last appointment, my year old puppy got scared by the ceiling fan entering the consulting room and was in the room for less than a minute when the vet lifted his tail to start anal gland expression. My puppy squealed and squirmed and a nurse had to help hold him. Afterwards, my puppy collapsed onto his back.
I was given no dietary or supplement advice. I was instead advised to have his glands removed because of his reaction. I asked if I could express his glands myself and the vet said no, I’d make it worse. When I asked about the operation, the vet did mention incontinence as a possible side effect and I said I’d be that 1 in a million and he laughed at me. He did not know I was that 1 in a million in a bad reaction to medication that nearly cost me my life.
The vet did not speak to or comfort my puppy. My puppy did not bark or bite. He loves people, but left as traumatised as I was.

I have had a people reactive GSD with anal gland issues. A vet at a different practise helped me work on consent so there was no issue doing his glands. If he was triggered before entering the consulting room, she spoke and reassured me and my dog, giving us time before considering to touch my dog.

I have had a dog that because of vet mishandling needed a general anaesthetic to be examined. I do not want this for my people friendly puppy.

On our first appointment the vet spoke harshly to my puppy, shouting for him to sit. Why, because he is malinois cross aka mongrel.

When I went into the practise to get my puppy’s xray results, this same vet showed me another client’s dog dental pictures. This is understandably a mistake.

Treating my dog harshly, physically, is not acceptable. I work on consent and reward.

I registered with another independent vet 48 hours later and await the response by the practise manager of Maclellan to my email

Great Inverness INDEPENDENT vet

Whilst on holiday we needed a vet to look at our dogs foot, she had an infection from a grass seed. Right from the initial phone call it was a great experience. The lady who took the call was attentive, polite and helpful. We attended the open clinic session later that day and was seen by Angus the owner. He was very kind and reassuring. Provided medication and advice and offering to send any info needed down to our local vets upon returning home. The costs were also very acceptable. Felt like what vets used to feel like! A real friendly, busy practice, clearly popular with the locals. Angus even took time to give us some local walking recommendations. A great practice, would recommend for anyone needed a vet in the Inverness area to go and see the team. Thanks!

Foreigners beware..

Foreigners beware...

As per recent events and communication from the practice, it is abundantly clear that this veterinary practice is NOT suitable to serve foreign pet owners, and very clearly the thousands of pounds of our money we've spent there in exchange for what they claim to be "professional" service, is simply not good enough.

I am extremely saddened that in this day and age this is still a problem we have to encounter, especially in a place where kindness and community is heavily promoted and emphasized locally, and given that the vet has been a guest in our very country. Not that it should matter, nor do we owe justification to anyone, but we have not come off a boat, and have been tax paying, working members of the community.

I have not had the, I must say, misfortune of attending the practice on many occasions, but the few times I haven taken our family dog, the foul attitude has been very apparent. The way we have been spoken to, the what they thought were sly, unnoticed looks we have been given and the constant nitpicking that other pet owners have not been subjected to are not acceptable, specifically in consideration that the practice is the one providing what is effectively a service we are paying for.

Most recently, one of the assistants have once again spoken to us in a completely unacceptable manner, which we have called out - the result being that we were kicked out of the practice. I can very much confirm that we have not been abusive nor rude to the staff at any point, perhaps bewildered that in a so called "professional" environment, someone tought this was acceptable. Not even mentioning the borderline disgust on some of the assistants faces when having to touch our dog, who is always clean and well groomed. No one has taken accountability and there has been no apology made, not on the day nor since then. The knowledge of the vet - the only reason we stayed - is completely let down by the behavior of the mentioned clinic staff.

I am very much sympathetic and in understanding that people can have bad days, but if such behaviour is only directed at one individual/pair of individuals and not others time and time again, I must question the basis and intent.

I would not in good conscience recommend this practice to anyone who is a foreigner, nor local, in all honesty. Most times it is stressful enough for pet owners to go to the vet and the added stress from the staff's attitude is well and truly not necessary or acceptable.

Avoid, if you can.
