An excellent experience with the campervan rental company!
The team was always available to help with any questions or requests, consistently friendly and professional, which gave us great peace of mind throughout the trip. The campervan itself was very well equipped and included everything we expected—and even more. It was clear that a lot of thought had been put into the small details, making the journey especially comfortable and enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable and high-quality rental experience.

I loved travelling with the Mad Adventurer. It was always easy to get a spot, and because it only needs a non-powered site, I usually ended up in quiet places surrounded by nature. The car drove extremely well and had plenty of power, even on tricky mountain roads. It’s small and flexible like a regular car, yet it offers all the advantages of a camper: you simply flip open the tent and have a compact kitchen with you, including gas and water.

Especially when travelling a lot and changing location almost every night, it was the perfect choice. I loved it! And perhaps important to mention: even as a solo traveller, it was absolutely easy to handle and I always felt safe on the amazing campgrounds in New Zealand.

I had a great 3 week journey with one of Mad Campers van. The van was relatively old, but sturdy, organised and well equipped.
The journey and overall features of the van were ideal and great.
Personally, Mad Campers is well organised and will help you with all the questions and doubts you have.
I had no accidents or issues so my travels were stress free

We rented the campervan named Carlotta for two weeks. The communication with Rosa was perfect from beginning till the end. Picking up the van went very smoothly as she also suggested to pick us up from the airport. The van is well maintained, equiped and nicely decorated. There was a small malfunctions as the dashboard is not working, but with some extra installed devices to solve this, you won't even notice. We thought it is also a part of the charm of an older VW van. Which is why we chose to book it. The van itself has enough space to store your clothing and other needed stuff. Cooking is easy, and the bed is comfortable. We had two delighted weeks with Carlotta. She did not dissapoint us once. If we will decide to explore Spain some more, we would definately use Mad Campers again.

We rented a camper from Mad Campers for our honeymoon trip to New Zealand, hoping for an amazing experience, but unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned.

First, the vehicle is not a real camper, but a Chinese delivery van that’s been converted into one. Because of that, it has some serious design flaws – it’s heavily weighted on the left side, and even when keeping the steering wheel straight, it would veer left. Not exactly fun or safe when driving long distances. On top of that, you can hear everything "working" inside. It’s also a diesel vehicle, so expect to pay an extra $90 per 1000km for road user charges – something we didn’t realize until after booking.

Secondly, the insurance options are extremely expensive if you want full coverage. Other companies we checked later offer better deals or include insurance in the price.

However, what truly ruined the experience was how they handled a minor accident we had. A stone hit our windscreen and left a small chip. We immediately contacted Mad Campers, and they told us to keep driving. The crack grew. We called again, asking if we should replace it or do something, but they told us it would be handled at the end of the rental. And it was – they handled it by charging us $1,900 for a windscreen replacement. That has to be one of the most expensive windshields ever! We checked, and replacements are typically around $800. It felt like a rip-off and a very strange way of dealing with their customers.

This unexpected charge really left a bad taste at the end of our honeymoon. We wouldn’t rent from them again.

On the positive note: employees in both offices (Auckland and Christchurch) were really nice so we leave 2 out of 5.

Rosa went above and beyond with her support while visiting Spain- both in hiring the van and as a lovely human whilst I was experiencing health issues during my trip. Really accommodating and easy to communicate with.
The van had everything I needed (except a lighter) and was easy to navigate.

I had a great experience with mad campers! The great thing about a small, custom built camper van like this is that someone has put a lot of thought into the layout and construction, so it's very cozy and very practical. The van was very easy to drive and was happy on narrow streets in Girona. Sleeping in the van was comfortable and safe. Rosa was a pleasure to deal with, it's so much better knowing there is someone you can call if there is a problem or a change of plans.

The only challenge was getting to and from the van from Barcelona, as the van was based in Reus. In the end I found two good options: high speed train to Camp de Tarragona then bus to Reus central bus station, or bus from BCN airport. I had to include some extra travel time as my plan was mountain biking to the north of Barcelona, but it wasn't too bad in the end.

We had an amazing trip in an authentic and well equipped camper. It was clean and tidy, pick up and drop off was easy and straightforward. Overall my experience with mad campers was great

We arrived to spain and got the van which didnt have functional dash board, kept over hitting and had trouble starting. None of this things were sheared with us before we rented the car and they didnt have any other van to give us. Our trip got ruined because of car mad functions and when we wanted our money back - our contact Rosa kept on giving excuses and at the end after a lot of time and talking we got only 15% back.
Not recommended. Very old vehicles and very bad service.

The trip in the lovingly built and cozy camper-van was absolutely classy. Clearly recommended!

We had a great week away in the madcamper 'Mali'. Had everything we wanted and nothing we did not. The van fitout was perfect and compact with a sink and portable gas cooker. The bed was comfortable, I am 6 foot tall, qnd Rosa is friendly and easy to deal with. Pickup and drop-off was smooth & simple

We had a wonderful time. The van is excellent for touring Spain.

We had an amazing time in Spain with a Mad Campers' van. We were travelling with VW T4 Blue Bird, it was equipped, the car could handle every kind of road and it is very convenient that you can open the roof part. Rosa was really kind, the communication went well, and also recommended some beautiful spots to visit. We would definitely go again :)

We really enjoyed the Carlota van and everything worked as it should and when it didn’t (the sink was a bit plugged) Rosa took care of it and was always available for questions and tips.

Our experience collecting and dropping the van off was brilliant with the host accommodating us and showing us the ropes. We flew to and from Reus airport.

We had a brilliant time driving down to Benicassim for the music festival and parked right up by the beach. Price was also really good for the hire, I would do again.

It was a really nice experience, a fair Price and really good Service! The van we took was perfect for us and Rosa was always polite and helpful. I would definitely recommend mad campers.

Our experience with mad campers was wonderful. Rosa met us at the train station and took her time to explain the van to us and answer all of our questions so we felt safe. The quality and state of the car was very good as well and everything worked great during our journey of 5 nights. Also, Rosa was very reliable and always available when we had questions during the trip and communicating was easy with her. The quality to price ratio was excellent and my partner and I would highly recommend hiring a van at mad campers:) we will surely come back!
