Look no further, Magara Law is on your side

I cannot thank Roy and the team at Magara Law enough for their kindness, efficiency, passion, and commitment in supporting me through my legal matter. The level of service they provide exemplifies rigorous professionalism and sincere empathy.
From the very beginning, Roy and his team demonstrated a refreshing and warm approach. They do not treat clients as simply another case. Instead, they build genuine, trusting relationships with a great deal of respect. The level of care, patience, and understanding they provided made a long period navigating my case remarkably smooth and provided me with complete peace of mind throughout the entire process.
Roy and his team were always available whenever I needed them. They were exceptionally proactive in their work and their attention to even the smallest details was meticulous.

Thanks to their expertise, diligence, and unwavering support, I was able to resolve my case successfully without compromise and regain stability in my life; mentally, emotionally, and financially. Their guidance and support gave me the confidence to gradually regain a sense of self that had been deeply affected by my experience. Their knowledge, professionalism, and compassionate approach are truly unmatched, nothing ever seemed impossible for them to address. What stood out to me most, from start to finish, was that they genuinely put people and their well-being first, a quality that can sometimes be lost in legal settings but is clearly at the heart of Magara Law’s practice.
I will always be deeply grateful for their support. It has been an absolute privilege to have had representation from Magara Law, and I cannot recommend them highly enough to anyone seeking exceptional legal guidance.

Articulate, honest, professional lawyer

Having watched several of Roy Magara's videos on employment law including mental health advice, I asked him to deliver a talk on effective management in the modern workplace which was met with high praise from several delegates. He was very articulate and professional yet with an approachable and empathetic character. I'm glad to know a lawyer who can be trusted to deliver honest professional advice.

Exceptional Service - Thank you so much

I know Roy Magara via a Breakfast Club I previously attended where his professionalism was clearly evident.

I November 2023, I was going through issues at work which lead to the detriment of my mental health. This was further compounded with unfair treatment and discrimination by my employer.

I got in touch with Magara Law and was initially put through to Millie, who I must especially thank for being very understanding and empathetic to my situation. I then met with Roy where every thing including my options, were explained to me. Roy and the Team kept me up to date with the progress of my case at all times.

Not only did they help me legally but they were also there for emotional support, which kept me going during this difficult and sensitive time. I will be forever grateful to Roy and Team for this.

The hard work put in by Roy and the Team resulted in settlement, which was a positive and amicable outcome.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Roy and the Team for all their help and support and wish them continued success in the future.

....and YES, I would definitely recommend them.

I was experiencing some problems with an employee

I was experiencing some problems with an employee at work and was not confident that advice I had received from our HR department was accurate. I contacted Magara Law for legal advice and was extremely happy with the detailed explanation and what the company’s legal responsibilities were.

Subsequently, I have use Magara Law for other employment law related concerns. This included workplace bullying experienced by wife, which resolved very satisfactorily.

Not for the vulnerable.

I had a disappointing experience with lawyer Roy. It's concerning that he didn't provide me with all my options, especially considering my struggle with mental health at work. Encouraging me to take voluntary redundancy without exploring other avenues (Occupational Health, Employee Assistance) and dismissing my concerns is unprofessional and lacks empathy.

Additionally, insisting on using jargon and requiring me to turn on my camera during meetings was insensitive to my vulnerability. Persisting to pronounce my name wrong despite me correcting him every time displayed an unconscious bias. This experience has left me questioning his integrity and commitment to my well-being. I regret using his services, it's important to find a lawyer who prioritizes your needs and provides comprehensive support, Roy just isn’t one of those lawyers.

Dear Rabab,

I am first and foremost sorry that you felt you had a disappointing experience with me. What you have written is genuinely not the essence of my practice, professionalism or firm, and your experience is not an experience I would want anyone to have anywhere; and most certainly not with Magara Law.

I have reached out to you separately to try to understand why you would leave such reviews nearly a year since your matter and to understand your position better, however, I must write the below for those others who will read your review and my response:

Mental health as a topic and a factor is very important to me and those in my firm. We take it seriously and seek to treat every single client as a unique individual with individual circumstances. In the context of your matter (which I will not expand on for confidentiality reasons) while the voluntary redunancy was in fact the best option for you, I had explored all other options and advised you that whatever you decide is ultimately down to you. I would never dismiss anyone's concerns, but it is of course my job to give you the best advice possible (which may in some cases be what a client does not want to hear, but needs to hear).

Your matter would principally warrant a 30 minute consultation, however I had nearly 4 hours' worth of consultations with you as I genuinely wanted to help you in your difficult cirucmstances. There was also no charge to you for those additional consultations.

I also would never insist that anyone turns their camera on irrespective of their voicing of feeling vulnerable (although you never expressed a requirement not to have your camera on because of feeling vulnerable). I would however state that with online consultations (for money laundering and identification regulation purposes), clients do need be able to prove they indeed are who they say they are, and one of the easiest ways to do this is by turning the camera on - even if briefly. For the record, if anyone ever expressed a feeling of vulnerability with having their camera on, there is never an insistence from me.

I do not know what unconscious bias you are detailing that I have towards you, although I want to let you know that I do not have any negative or ill-feeling towards you. I sincerely wish you well. You kindly corrected my pronounciation of your name - I was only aware of one pronounciation of your name - at the start of our first consultation, but I did not persist in pronouncing it incorrectly after that.

For anyone else who reads my response, I would like you to know that I and the team here care deeply about each individual and their individual need. Anyone can go through a difficult season at any point and we wish to do our best for every single client. Rabab - I am sorry that you regretted using our services, and I hope that I and the firm can do our best to ensure that at the end of a client's difficult season, they can move forward to a brighter tomorrow.

My offer to you to get in touch with me separately remains. If you choose not to (and it is indeed your choice), I wish you well and all the genuine best for your future ahead.

Caring and ready to put up a good fight

I got in touch with Magara Law just before Christmas, I felt safe talking to Roy about my discrimination case as he is also someone from minority background.

Roy and his team ensure that I felt valued at all times, every thing was explained properly to me, all my concerns were addressed and they put in the work I asked.

Not only they helped me legally but they also were there for emotional support and to be honest it kept me afloat during such a difficult and sensitive time. Forever grateful, Roy knows this.

I want to take this opportunity to also thank Millie, her customer service is top tier, her care is visible in her voice and how she deals with things. I wish every law firm had a Roy and a Millie, but you can’t have it all. I definitely recommend them! (I usually leave loads of negative reviews to businesses with poor standards so it means a lot if I can leave 5 stars)

A Safe Pair of Hands

I recently had occasion to require the services of Roy Magara at Magara Law. I am more than happy to report that the situation I was dealing with was addressed promptly, professionally, calmly and, in my opinion, with the best possible outcome. Every contact I had was dealt with promptly and when I was unsure of my next steps, I was guided with patience and confidence, which reduced my stress enormously and gave me certainty that all the angles of my situation were covered. I hope not to have further need of such a service :-), but it's a great comfort to know Roy is there if and when I next need him!

Potential Financial Detriment and Ethics Questioned

For the general public: This review has evidence for each paragraph made. If you've any questions, please give me a call on 07876621636.

1) Mr. Magara's charging was all over the place. He advises that he charges £200 per hour, but when challenged Mr Magara advised that his firm mainly charges fixed fees. An engagement letter dated 14th June states fixed charges of £350+VAT, or hourly rate of £200. I was never charged £200 per hour throughout the engagement despite the fact Mr Magara kept saying that. However, for half an hour appointment on the 11th July I was invoiced £200+VAT fixed charges, so not aligned with the engagement letter dated 14th June. Why higher charge was applied to half an hour appointment? I've not received any preparation documents, or an email from Mr Magara after the meeting to suggest he's done any concrete preparation, it was merely a telephone conversation. Therefore, there was no value adding from this meeting.

2) I've left the negative review for Mr. Magara's services on the VouchedFor. He's instructed the VouchedFor to deactivate his account the next day.
See, in my view if an individual has nothing to hide, he/she would not requested for an account to be deactivated.
I've attached a copy of an email received from VouchedFor customer services.

Hi Leona,

Thank you for getting in touch and I am really sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience with one of the advisers on VouchedFor.

We would normally request some evidence from you to challenge the professional's decision to dispute the review, but in this case the adviser has decided to deactivate their profile and as part of this process, all the details have been removed from public view - including your review.

Thank you again for leaving your feedback and I'm sorry that we will be unable to publish it.

I hope you have a good day, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Aldo
Customer Operations Team

3) Mr Magara advised in his email dated 06th July that he's reviewed the COT3 document, therefore I can settle, however I've managed to claim an additional £528.88 in an interest on late payments on my own, not resulting from services received by Mr Magara.

4) After being removed from the case on 13th July, Mr Magara contacted the Tribunal Court on the 14th July to advise that he's no longer appointed solicitor on the case.
How a solicitor who's effectively been sacked from the case can legally be allowed to act on the case in any way, shape or form?
When an employee is sacked he/she is gone, they have no jurisdiction to continue any aspects of their old role.
In addition Mr Magara never contacted the Tribunal when he was appointed, despite the fact I've asked Mr Magara to advise the Court of this. He said he would, but never did. In my view, I don't think he was happy about losing thousands in legal fees which is why he acted the way he did. If he really cared about the case Mr Magara would have contacted the Court when he was appointed.

To the general public:

We have no intention to reply in kind to all allegations, save to say that they are not in any way a reflection of the hard work, genuine care and dedication we strive for each and every single client of the firm.

Although we used to provide fees on an hourly rate, we do not do so as it does not provide th ebest costs certainty for clients. Ms McLean was advise dof our hourly rate, but we also fixed our fees based on work to be carried out in order to not only provide a costs saving, but also better value for her as a client. Therefore, a hour consultation may be preceded by 1 - 2 previous hours of revieing statements of case, case law, other documentation, etc.) as was in Ms McLean's case. In order not to provide large estimates costs, we fixed our fees to provide Ms McLean best value. We also conducted many calls and appointments outside the consultation at no extra charge to Ms McLean.

With regard to the next main allegation:

Our ethics are latterly questioned by Ms Mclean on the basis that once she had withdrawn her instructions from the firm, the tribunal was emailed to let them know we were no longer instructed and to forward all communications to Ms McLean as opposed to the firm. This is the correct (and quite standard) procedure. Given that we would not want the tribunal or other parties to send any further confidential or sensitive communications to us, it is right that they have a forwarding address. It is also positively compliant for us to update other parties when I am not representing a client.

It is our position is as follows:

1) We have not received any communication from the Legal Ombudsman (for the purposes of investigation or otherwise) that our actions regarding this standard procedure was unethical or that we have acted 'outside our jurisdiction'.

2) Ms McLean takes issue that we did not contact the tribunal or other parties to let them know that we were instructed in the first instance, however, this was only because she had in fact done so herself and there was no need for duplication.

As highlighted above, we have no intention to reply in kind to all allegations, save to say that they are not in any way a reflection of the hard work, genuine care and dedication we strive for each and every single client of the firm. We will continue to strive to act justly, compassionately serve and walk with integrity.

Thank you.

A disappointing and unexpected experience

This review is genuine and honest. I can provide Trustpilot with an abundance of evidence to back up each one of my concerns about this firm, all of which are well documented. Furthermore, in just a matter of weeks Roy Magara incurred costs totalling a handsome 5-digit sum, all while failing to carry out the work he was instructed to do. He also failed to rectify his errors which adversely impacted on my claim. For £200 per hour + VAT the service I received from Roy Magara included the following:
- Despite several requests, he failed to carry out any assessment of my claim and failed to provide a detailed breakdown to back up his advice on quantum and settlement, which he kept reducing as time went on, without explanation.
- He failed to carry out the work that was clearly outlined to him on instruction, always making excuses.
- He told me one thing, which was reassuring, but then went against what he said and did something completely different, causing chaos, confusion and completely avoidable stress and pressure.
- He always wanted me to agree to what the other side wanted, saying, “We need to agree with the other side.” He wanted to do what was easiest for him and not what was best for me (the client).
- He agreed things with the other side that were not in line with my instructions.
- He failed to prepare any bundle, after he failed to ensure all relevant documents were included in on what should have been a joint bundle. This resulted in me not having crucial documents to refer to at the hearing. He didn’t even submit the bundle that I worked hard to produce myself as with most of the documentation in my claim.
- He failed to include the specific information required in documentation for the material time, that he produced and submitted to the Employment Tribunal, which I was heavily criticised for at the hearing.
- He withdrew parts of my claim without any discussion or explanation.
- He failed to forward highly significant correspondence from the other side over to me in a timely manner, to allow me to respond in full by the deadline.
- The very little work he did carry out on my claim was not without flaws. He made so many mistakes, for which he took no ownership, nor did he take any remedial action.
- His multiple errors adversely impacted on me and my claim at the hearing and as a direct result of this I was, unfairly, heavily criticised and I had to bear the brunt of his failures, as he did not attend the hearing, he failed to take any responsibility for his errors.
- He became an obstacle which disallowed me a fair settlement and more importantly access to justice.
- He was very laid back, he seemed to be out of his depth and lacked experience as well as drive and determination to do right by his client.
- In the end he was only interested in ensuring he claimed unfairly high costs for himself, in the quickest and easiest way possible, for the very little ‘flawed’ work he did actually carry out.
