Avoid at all costs

Constant cancellations, then the refund policy, that differs if the trip is less or more than 150 km, is a joke: "Compensation for train delays is based on the distance the train travels from the starting station to the end station, not the distance you as a passenger travel with the train."

Why should I be impacted for the distance the whole train is traveling?!

They should lose their license to operate, it's an embarrassment for Sweden.

Constant lateness and cancellations

Constant lateness and cancellations. They took over the commuter line between Uppsala and Stockholm but obviously cannot or do not want to keep up with the demand. You're lucky if they provide a replacement bus, but more likely they will make you wait 3 hours on a train and not let you leave. How can a company fail this badly at the one thing they're supposed to do? Absolutely disgraceful. Use another train company if you can.

Mälartåg isn’t just late—it tricks you into missing other trains before vanishing itself

This is, without exaggeration, the worst train service on the planet. It’s not just about delays—those are expected at this point. The real disaster is that even when there are delays, the system still pretends the train will arrive on time. Because of this, you miss other available trains, only to find out that your original train never even shows up. It’s a level of incompetence that feels almost intentional. If you value your time, your sanity, or just basic human dignity, avoid traveling with them at all costs.

The only reason I have them 1 star was because I can’t give them 0 stars,

Horrible experience everytime I use the service, always late, wtrain was delayed 1 hour then 15 mins then was told no time then cancelled, wasting over 3 hours of my time, just say from the start that it’s cancelled!!!!

For sure late

I have only taken it 4 times, and there has been always a delay of minimum 10 min. Yesterday I was supposed to travel back with them, but I had to take another option after the train had been delayed first 15 min and then 35… and I was travelling with a toddler. Fantastic. If you want to pay extra for arriving late, this is the company you should choose.

Mälartåg is the worst company of all…

Mälartåg is the worst company of all time, I just cannot believe how they are approved as a train service operator. I cannot plan ANYTHING after work EVER since they have issues with their train (unlike the other operators) multiple times every week. They denied me compensation for a cab TWICE when their trains were cancelled so I cannot even take a cab anymore. Its ALWAYS extremely dirty on the trains as well. Avoid at all cost! Its unfortunately the only train Im able to take to/from work so my life is hell

Totally unreliable

There is never a time in which they are punctual. It’s every f**ing time delayed.
First it starts with delays that can be from some minutes to also hours. Once you’re aboard it stops multiple times in the middle of nowhere for either “fordonsfel”, “signalfel”, ”väntar på kör/grönt signal”.
It’s totally unreliable. Avoid at all costs. I understand that it can happen sometimes but not every single journey with them.
I almost never have these issues with SJ.

trains are canceled at the last minute

trains are canceled at the last minute. No one is responsible for lost flights and losses due to the fault of the company. In an emergency, the phones are not answered even though there are business hours. I lost money and time, ruined my mood

Our train from Nyköping 23 Feb…

Our train from Nyköping 23 Feb cancelled without notice or offer of alternative transport forced us to take taxi alternatives at rediculous cost in order to avoid missing our flight. SJ on such an occasion has always compensated fully in such circumstances. I suggest there are lessons to be learned about the meaning of service and customer care, with the emphasis on care!

Train cancelled, failed refund

Train cancelled, refund granted but with an overly complicated payment method (instead of just transferring the money back). Never received a payment. Was lied to 3 times and now I'm being redirected to the bank?! Worst support imaginable!

The worst transportation company in the…

The worst transportation company in the history. Never takes responsibility for their cancelled trips or delays. I missed a job interview because the train got canceled and i had to wait for 1.5 h for the next. I called customer service and all they had to say was that’s unfortunate.
