Manulife Group Benefits is the worst…
Manulife Group Benefits is the worst insurance company I have ever experienced. my company i work for was bought out and we had to switch from green shield to a Manulife policy and it has been nothing but problem after problem. when i was with green my other policy provider, not a singe issue. I have been with Manulife since June and been on the phone at least 20 times with them only to have to go through the same thing every time to be told the same BS story ever time. Do yourselves a favor and avoid doing business with Manulife if at all possible. Worst experience of my life.
dishonest and highly unprofessional behavior
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the systemic mishandling of my claim for a custom-made item. The claims process has been defined by continuous administrative delays, invalid excuses, and a direct breach of their own organizational guidelines. Originally, I submitted the claim alongside the required doctor’s note. The organization failed to acknowledge this submittal. When I followed up, staff claimed the note was missing, completely ignoring that it had already been provided. I was forced to resubmit this document multiple times before the team finally admitted to receiving it. Following this, the staff shifted to a series of contradictory and invalid excuses. First, they claimed the item was not custom-made, directly opposing the clear language on the receipt. They then demanded the manufacturer's contact information, which was already clearly visible on the same receipt. After I provided this information multiple times, they falsely claimed the purchase occurred prior to my coverage start date. I successfully disproved this claim as well. Ultimately, the claim was settled at only 5% of the total cost. According to their own policy manual, I am entitled to a 25% reimbursement. This entire process has forced me to waste considerable hours waiting on the phone and resubmitting redundant documentation due to staff incompetence. Unfortunately I have to be their policy holder through my employer. Otherwise I never consider them if I were to have a personal insurance
Title: Terrible service and endless delay tactics with claims
Title: Terrible service and endless delay tactics with claims
My experience has been completely frustrating. They have terrible claim handling and use deliberate delay tactics to avoid paying out. Despite submitting all requested documentation and proof of payment, they arbitrarily change deadlines and resolution dates at the last minute, inventing brand-new review periods just to drag the process out for months. It is a complete lack of respect for customers; I strongly do not recommend getting insurance with them.
Abysmal
As I write this, I'm currently on hold with Manulife for 23 minutes and counting. I submitted a normal claim over two weeks ago. Trying to reach a real person mid day, mid week is apparently impossible. This is the worst insurance company I've had the displeasure of dealing with! The shitty ai saxophone music is deafening and repetitive and will haunt me.
Edit. After 28 minutes I have been defeated..Manulife has beaten me.

My call to Manulife was answered in a quick and convenient manner. The assistant was clear to understand and helpful in solving my problem. Professional and polite.
SCARY, My money and I cannot get a hold of it.
My money and I cannot get a hold of it, does this make sense??
RUN PEOPLE, DO NOT INVEST YOUR MONEY IN A BUSINESS WHERE YOU CANNOT GET A HOLD OF THE PEOPLE INVESTING YOUR MONEY.
I tried to take my 2 investments out months ago... claiming revamping of their systems. blah blah only one was transferred to Scotia Bank the other got lost...
I am not well and so have been trying to call and get help. Calls get dropped, don't ask to be transferred. Or if they ask you to please hold the line for ANYTHING say NO. You will have the line dropped. Back and forth for weeks, months later I tried again, same old run around. Today I was confident I will get this done. I even made an appointment!!! However 10-15 minutes in, the agent told me she needed to transfer me to a different dept. Ok, so 35 minutes later on hold an automated message comes on and tells me 'all the agents are busy please call back later' and the line gets cut!!!!
Manulife - Good Customer Service
I am extremely happy with the professionalism of Bhenjha, she provided excellent customer service, answered all my questions and after 2 days sent me follow up emails.
Thank you
Manulife is a joke
I think Manulife is a terrible company. In three months, my case was reassigned to five different case managers. They sent requests to doctors I had seen months earlier for HR notes that had nothing to do with my claim, yet refused to send a request to the doctor who completed my physician's statement.
I was told a decision would be made in early March, but the process dragged on for another two months. At one point, my doctor even suggested that I consider seeking legal advice because of how my case was being handled.
There have been so many issues over the past four months that I can't fit them all into one review. In my experience, the communication, consistency, and handling of my claim have been extremely frustrating and disappointing.

Financial Rip off! Stay Away!
Total financial rip-off. Do not have anything with them.
Had group rrsp through the employer 5 years ago. After i left employer, group rrsp was converted to personal rrsp. Even though it was not a transfer from another institution, they still charged $120. RRSP portfolio performance is negative every year. I actually lost money year-over-year. Charged overwhelming $15/month admin fee for non-contribution. First of all you have my money, you are earning interest on my money and then charging me $15/month because i did not make more contribution?
No, follow-ups, no monthly statements, no advisor reaching out. So, money is deducting silently in the background without me knowing. They claim to send annual statement, but i never received it.
On withdrawal, more charges and lower unit price.
After 4 years in personal rrsp, my portfolio of over $1100 is now mere $400. Lost 65% of my earned income. On top of that, customer service is no use, no partial reimbursement on these silent monthly fees. Stay Away!
I would rate zero stars if I could
I would rate zero stars if I could. There online portal is not easy to use. They do not mail/email or have your card info anywhere I could find. Dentist/pharmacy could not get through to them to access insurance info. I would avoid this company and stick with blue cross. We have been paying into this company insurance plan and have been paying out of pocket as we have no idea what our insurance policy is and or how to access it.
My claim was denied by Manulife
I read a news story similar to mine today, in regards to claim being denied by Manulife Travel Insurance.
In my case i became ill two days before departure and i cancelled my flight, after seeing my doctor .
My doctor filled out the Manulife claim forms, and i thought i would have no problem getting a refund.
I was wrong.I received a letter from Manulife that said my claim is denied because i never spent a night in the hospital.I was shocked but after reading other reviews, i am not suprised.
When i told Air Canada what Manulife did to me, they were so upset that they gave me two free return flights, to anywhere in Canada.
Never purchase any products or services from Manulife.
I had an extremely disappointing…
I had an extremely disappointing experience with Manulife Travel Insurance and their claims management process.
My mother had a medical emergency during her trip and we submitted a hospital claim. Months later, after hearing absolutely nothing, I personally called to follow up and was shocked to learn that the claim had apparently been denied back on January 14. We never received any email, letter, or notification about this decision.
Only after my phone call did the representative finally send me the denial letter on February 24.
I submitted an appeal on March 5, and once again, no response, no follow-up, and no communication at all.
The most frustrating part is not only the denial itself, but the terrible communication and lack of transparency throughout the entire process. For a company people trust during stressful medical emergencies, this level of customer service is unacceptable.
We paid a significant amount for this travel insurance expecting support and professionalism, but instead experienced delays, poor communication, and complete lack of accountability.
I would strongly reconsider purchasing travel insurance from Manulife again.
handling of claims
I am extremely disappointed with the way my claim has been handled. The process feels intentionally difficult and unnecessarily stressful for customers trying to receive legitimate reimbursement.
For example, I already submitted the official invoice provided by the hospital, which clearly documented the purchase and payment details. Despite this, I was asked to provide an even more detailed explanation of the items purchased. This now requires me to return to the hospital again just to request additional paperwork that should not be necessary when an official hospital invoice was already provided.
To make matters worse, my claim was rejected without any notification or explanation. I only discovered the rejection after following up myself, and then had to spend nearly an hour on the phone just trying to find out why the claim had been denied in the first place. This level of communication and customer service is unacceptable.
Instead of helping customers during difficult situations, it feels like the company is creating extra obstacles and delays in hopes that customers will give up on their claims. The repeated requests for additional documents, even after proper documentation has already been submitted, are unreasonable and frustrating.
An insurance company should support customers fairly and efficiently, not make the claims process unnecessarily complicated. Based on my experience, I am very dissatisfied with the service and claims handling process.
R*P*
Why would you charge so much for permits in Eastern Oregon for recreational camping to the public? It's sad and messed up.
One of your employees gave me false…
One of your employees gave me false information. I called the same morning I had my physiotherapy appointment. The employee said I still have coverage as I had asked. Then days later you guys tell me my coverage expired that same day and refuse to reimburse me. Your employee should have never said I was covered. I tried to complain but you guys still refused me. People will hear my story online. One star review for me. Trash company.
UNRESPONSIVE TO CLIENT CRITICAL BILLING DETAIL
Asked TWICE for my billing statement so I could see the detail and total amount deducted from my account. On April 13 was told it would be sent to me in 7-10 days. NEVER RECEIVED IT! Called back after 14 days, and was told again I would receive an email within 24 hours. NEVER RECEIVED THAT EITHER! They did however deduct my health care premium without providing detail to back it up. THEY ARE RELIABLE ONLY FOR DEDUCTING THEIR PREMIUMS AND FOR NOT KEEPING THEIR PROMISES. HORRIBLE TO DEAL WITH.
Horrendously Horrible Company
Never have I ever dealt with a worse company. The only thing they are consistent with is messing up on health and dental claims. I have to “babysit” them with every single claim that I submit because many many many times the claim is not paid. And no, they do not contact you to resolve the issue. You have to catch their misses, and call in, and wait and wait and wait for them to review the claim and find out what went wrong. And honestly, every time you talk to someone, even if it is MANY TIMES on the same claims, the reason for their failures is always different. No one seems to know what is going on there. I wouldn’t recommend Manulife to my worst enemy!
AVOID Manulife AT ALL COSTS - absolute incompetence at EVERY level!
I have never had to deal with such an incompetent company; both on the group benefits front, and on the retirement investment front.
I have never had ANY significant action from them that didn't require weeks/months of calls, escalation (to the principals), and even had to involve the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI) in order to get this company to do nothing other than what is ALREADY IN THEIR POLICY. I have since moved any/all investments away from their incompetence, and am in discussions with our senior management team to drop Manulife all together and go with a much more reputable company.
We really ought to be able to give this company ZERO stars...
