Good idea badly implemented

I'd not played in years so thought I'd give this a go, but on my first day I really should have taken note of the red flags. Not welcomed by anyone, no hello, no information about teams, how it works, rules etc. I'd literally been whatsapped by someone on 'my' team and had to go around finding them. Not a great intro tbh.
Then I started talking to folks and realised there are guys who've been here for years. Well clearly weight loss isn't actually working then if their goal is to just play football in their cliques and beat teams of guys who are largely overweight. Oh and chuck in the several guys who are built like whippets. "Oh but my mate plays so wanted to join them". I spent one season there and it was a complete waste of time. Did not speak to a single person from manv fat.
The only thing going for it, and it's more a consequence of how poor it is, is the social side and games away from man v fat that folks arrange. Begs the question then, for that money, what's the point?

Very hit and miss

Unless you get grouped in a team that wants to lose weight and plays each week, I wouldn't bother.

You either get put with a team that don't play each week and therefore sessions are cancelled and you don't progress in the league or you get put in a larger team that all play but it reduces your game time.

At £28.50 a month for 2 hours or less of football, you are better off getting some mates together and booking a 5-a-side session that will cost you £4-6 a pop for an hour a week.

I've been in teams that eat and drink like they're on a night out before and after a game. More like Man is Fat vs man vs Fat.

There's no incentive for weight loss or to play football. It would be great if you got money back off membership or discounts elsewhere depending on whether you played and your weight loss.

The advice around weight loss is nothing more than a Google search. Very disappointing.

I've been at 2 leagues now and the coaches are good. They do what they need to do but the organisation don't really care. They ask for feedback that's never implemented.

There's been a lot of players leaving from the leagues whether it's because of the above, the competitiveness or the cliques that form. Interestingly, a lot do end up doing 5-a-side between themselves which often result in better games, turnouts and health benefits.

There just needs to be a few things to shake it up and make it work but I'm very doubtful it'll happen given the revenue this must generate.

They only want your money

Joined a league to lose weight and play the game i love. League was a joke, players not turning up so thought I'd quit. Was asked if I'd consider another local league so thought, yeah why not. Started in goal and loved it. 8 teams, good competition for places. One team was ruling the league but we beat them and would of gone on to challenge again the next season. Man V Fat decided not to and decided to do a draft, 2 teams left so down to 6 teams. Five games into the season and 2 teams can't get players because MvF decided to draft including the teams that had left players. No down to 4 teams! No competition and 4 players left from today! there is the scene set. These people don't care about the players have to say. They only care about the money! Stay away, get 12 mates and hire a pitch yourself

Reply from MAN v FAT

We know that changing teams can seem a difficult prospect to some players, but please be aware that the idea is to ensure fair competition and to continue to make the leagues a 'one club feel'. We run drafts for various reasons:

-To stop clubs becoming tribal and to encourage men to mix with other players in the community outside of their teams
-To help players forge new friendships on top of those they have already formed
- To allow those who have excelled in their weight loss journeys to inspire or act as mentors to others
- To stop one or two teams dominating the club competitions
- Because we know, and have evidenced, that weight loss improves by doing this

Appalling business

Appalling business. The football and weight tracking is good but for £28.50/ month you get 28 minutes of game time each week.

The worst part is that it is a money grabbing business. The referral bonuses don't get paid and you have to chase them up to get them paid. When a game gets cancelled/postponed so you have no football on a week they will only refund you 50% of that weeks membership because they claim the meal and workout plans are worthy of 50% of the membership price.

Avoid this business. It is so badly run and you can play football much cheaper.

Good idea poorly executed

Generally a good concept however poorly executed and very much (as expected) profit driven. They request feedback but never act on anything. Basic concept being weight management football. So good points, you are playing football with people of a similar fitness level to yourself so you can feel comfortable wobbling around on the pitch. Bad points it's £28 a month for 1x half hour game per week. 5 a side football with 9 players per team meaning if all your teams players turn up you get maybe 10-15 minutes of football so does very little towards your actual weight loss. I was new to the area when I joined so it was "good" for me as I used it as a social tool more than anything else, but the only thing it does towards weight loss is by holding you accountable each week when you don't lose weight, but again, it still feels irrelevant. The weight loss tools provided aren't really very good as you just get sent food posters via WhatsApp, which you could get by typing diets into google and to be honest you would get more out of joining a slimming world group and organising a game of football separate.
