The Vanner 66-80 provides regulated 12V power from a 24V electrical system for vehicles, marine equipment, and alternative-energy applications. It helps keep both 12V batteries in a 24V series bank equally charged, reducing the overcharge and undercharge problems caused by tapping only one battery for 12V loads. With automatic operation, greater than 96% efficiency, and an 80A output rating, it supports substantial 12V loads without requiring a separate 12V alternator or battery charger. KEY FEATURES Converts power from a 24V battery system for 12V loads Provides up to 80A of 12V DC output Automatically maintains voltage balance between two series-connected 12V batteries Helps extend battery life by reducing unequal charging and discharging Operates automatically without user controls Greater than 96% efficiency Supports momentary surge loads above the equalizer rating through the lower battery Can be operated in parallel with compatible Vanner equalizers for increased output capacity UL Recognized Anodized aluminum enclosure Indicator light provides operating-status confirmation Electronically protected against reverse-polarity damage Non-user-serviceable design TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Manufacturer: Vanner Model: 66-80 Product series: VoltMaster 66 Series Product type: Battery equalizer Input voltage range: 20-32 VDC Maximum input current at 24VDC: 43A Output voltage: One-half of input voltage, ±2% minus 50mV Output current: 0-80A at 12VDC Efficiency: Greater than 96% Standby current at 28.4V: 17mA nominal Operating temperature: -40°C to 75°C (-40°F to 167°F) Storage temperature: -54°C to 95°C (-65°F to 203°F) Weight: 6.3 lb Dimensions: 9.8 x 8.5 x 2.5 in. Terminal stud size: 5/16-18 Maximum terminal torque: 120 in-lb Serviceability: Not user serviceable Recognition: UL Recognized APPLICATIONS Transit buses Private coaches Tour and charter buses Heavy trucks Off-highway equipment Marine electrical systems Alternative-energy systems Solar-powered homes Dual-voltage 24V/12V electrical systems Vehicle lighting, communications, controls, and accessories IDEAL FOR 24V vehicles that need substantial 12V accessory power Systems using two equal-capacity 12V battery banks in series Applications where tapping one battery would create charge imbalance Installations replacing more complex dual-alternator arrangements Systems that need up to 80A of regulated 12V output Fleet and commercial equipment operating in demanding environments PROTECTION FEATURES Electronic current limiting during overload conditions Electronic reverse-polarity protection Automatic output reduction as battery imbalance increases Automatic shutdown if either battery falls below approximately 8V Anodized aluminum enclosure provides protection against salt, fungus, dust, water, fuel vapors, and fluids associated with commercial and off-highway vehicle operation Indicator light assists with operating-status checks SYSTEM COMPATIBILITY Designed for 24V systems made from two 12V batteries or battery banks connected in series Both 12V battery banks should have the same amp-hour capacity Connects to the system’s +24V, +12V midpoint, and ground terminals Compatible Vanner Family 1, Family 3, Family 4, and Family 5 equalizers may be operated in parallel Can be used with alternator-charged, generator-supported, or solar-charged 24V systems Battery A and Battery B must both be above 8V for the equalizer to turn on CHECK BEFORE ORDERING Confirm the electrical system is nominally 24V with a 12V midpoint connection. Confirm the required continuous 12V load does not exceed 80A. Verify that the two 12V batteries or battery banks have the same amp-hour capacity. Do not use the equalizer as a stand-alone 24V-to-12V converter without the required battery connections at +24V, +12V, and ground. Install suitable fuses or circuit breakers between the equalizer and the battery system. The manual specifies an 80A fuse for F1 and a 40A fuse for F2 for the 66-80 model. Use 90°C-rated cable sized to keep voltage drop within the manual’s limits. Mount on a flat surface close to the batteries to minimize cable length. Vertical mounting with the terminals facing downward is recommended. Protect the unit from direct rain, high-pressure washing, battery acid, and battery fumes. Do not install in a zero-clearance compartment or in a compartment containing batteries or flammable materials. Do not connect more than one conductor to each terminal post. Do not exceed 120 in-lb of torque on the terminal studs. WARRANTY INFORMATION North American limited warranty Two years from the date of installation or two and one-half years from the date of manufacture, whichever period is shorter Warranty coverage is subject to proper installation, checkout, registration, and the conditions stated in the owner’s manual
