To say we were dissatisfied is an understatement. On arrival, we noticed an overpowering stench of dog, then I found the most disgusting sludge and hair collection down the bathroom sink plughole.... See more

Perfect Summer Holiday

We booked our summer holiday through Marsdens Devon Cottages and the booking process was all very easy and straightforward. We were kept up to date via texts and emails with all we needed to know and had no problems at all. Our accommodation was on the beach front with parking available, and it was exactly as described, and was clean and very comfortable. We would be happy to use Marsdens again!

A wet but wonderful holiday

Despite the weather, we had a lovely time, scrambling over rocks, swimming in the sea and playing games on the vast sandy beach.
The accommodation, Seabreak, is furnished to a high standard and well equipped. The beach is so close that there is no need to carry vast amounts of equipment as you can pop back for a change of clothes or a snack.

The property itself was disappointing

The property itself was disappointing , not very clean and needed some tlc. Welcome pack in property was not up to date and had incorrect info for contacting housekeeper.
Rubbish had been left from previous occupants.
Poor response from housekeeper during stay, broken shower not fixed in time.
This property Clifton house is currently letting the Marsden group down.

Edwardian House in Ilfracombe :- access…

Edwardian House in Ilfracombe :- access was by steep hill from all directions, not mentioned in advertising blurb. Area quite run down, half hour walk to harbour. Ilfracombe as a coastal town very disappointing. It’s way past it’s sell by date. Won’t bother again. Accommodation nice but over priced for area. On the plus side some lovely beaches in the area but take loads of money for parking!

Loved Keepers Cottage!

We absolutely loved Keepers Cottage! I don't think we've stayed in such a well-equipped holiday kitchen before! The views from most of the windows are amazing, the location is totally private and peaceful and the cottage is very airy, comfortable and welcoming. The cottage was spotless on arrival, instructions are clear and the garden is delightful! Exmoor common is just a short walk further up the hill. You need a car to go anywhere else as the cottage is wonderfully remote! Wifi at the cottage is excellent. There is a petrol garage at the bottom of the lane which surprisingly stocks just about anything you may need! Lynton and Lynmouth are on your doorstep for cafes, restaurants and gift shops. The Valley of the Rocks was breath-taking as was the Heddons Mouth walk. We recommend both. We ate at home most evenings as the range cooker is great and very clean! We can't recommend Keepers Cottage enough!

Highly Recommended

We have been visiting and staying in Lynton for decades, we highly recommend as a wonderful location to relax by the sea. The property itself is in close proximity to shops, restaurants, the vernacular and car parks (which we have always found safe).

This was our second stay at the Stables. We really appreciate the space and enclosed garden, as we have a large dog who quickly makes herself at home!

The property is clean, well equipped, modern and comfortably homely. There is a large living room and a large kitchen, I don’t think the photos really do it justice.

Upstairs the rooms are in two sections separated by a large landing. There are two bedrooms and a bathroom at one end, and a similar set up at the other. Perfect for two families, affording communal space downstairs and a greater degree of separation/privacy upstairs.

The kitchen has a dishwasher and small fridge as well as cooker, hob and microwave. The utility has a fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is just about every piece of equipment you can think of including drying racks and a rotary line outside - making it easy to travel light.
There are bookcases of books, some DVDs TV etc.

We do find this property warm, not because of the outside environment but because of the warm air heating system. I’m sure others would disagree as everyone is different! (To give you context, at home we sleep with windows open all year around). We always turn the thermostats down when we arrive, but that seems to result in a lack of hot water. If we stay again we will ask the owner for help as I’m sure user-error is a part of the problem!

We only had one car and preferred to leave it in the dedicated space in the gated mews rather than on the enclosed drive, this maximised our outside space in the patio/garden area.

There was noise from the pub or hotel one night that went on late, this didn’t really bother us and the rest of the week was quiet.

For those with disabilities there is an accessible downstairs shower, a bath lift upstairs and a lift between the two floors. All bathrooms have seats. The floorspace has plenty of room to manoeuvre a wheelchair, doorways are wide and there is a ramp at the exterior door. Beds can be configured according to preference.

We always take extra hand wash, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing powder kitchen roll and loo rolls. There are towels dishcloths, scourers and tea towels provided. There is milk in the fridge, some coffee/tea and biscuits on arrival. There is salt, pepper and a few condiments.

If you decide to book we hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did. We will definitely be booking this property again, testimony to how comfortable it is and the great location it enjoys.

Access Issue

We stayed at a property in Croyde, SENNEN, the problem wasn't the property, the problem was getting TO the property, on the website it is described as being 'off a quiet lane', the description needs to be better than that, it's a single track, unadopted road, a dirt track, the hedge on either side is VERY overgrown SO if you're driving anything bigger than a mini then expect to have your car scratched! It's impossible to avoid your car rubbing along the hedges, we've had to have the scratches on our car (Land Rover Discovery) professionally polished out, my husband did ring Marsden's as soon as we were home but they weren't really interested and advised contacting the council?!

Brilliant view to the sea.

This is a very nice flat and good local for Coastal walks or the beach. Lovely small balcony to sit and relax after a busy day watching the sun go down. Only problem is you cannot arrive until after 5pm and you have to vacate by 9am after you have stripped the beds and placed in bags with towels....so ends up a very early start to your final day.
