Appalling customer service

Having read that Spear and Jackson's 'contractor' fork is : "a solid forged heavy duty fork well suited to the demands of site work" I had no hesitation in buying one from Masseys . It appeared to be just what I needed to tackle jobs in my garden. However, the very first time I used it to try and move a small bush two of the fork's prongs (supposedly made of carbon steel) twisted badly out of shape rendering it useless. So I returned it to Masseys two days later for a refund. I was taken aback when I was accused by a very vocal male member of staff, in front of other customers, of "abusing" and misusing the fork, despite me explaning in detail what I had used it for and that it was clearly not fit for purpose. Eventually a senior manager (who didn't even have the good manners to come and speak to me) agreed that as a "good will gesture" I could have a credit note rather than a refund. No apology, just an upsetting and humiliating experience in trying to exercise my consumer rights. Appalling customer service.
