Killed my lawn and won't honor guarantee

Sadly, I must add my voice to the chorus of those who have had their lawns killed by Massey Services. We bought our house in Deltona a year ago, and the first thing we did was sign up with Massey for lawn and pest services based on what we believed was a good reputation. Well, the pest control has been it and miss, but the lawn service has basically killed half our lawn, and the local manager (Brian) not only has an attitude about it, but isn't responsive in resolving it.

They've been consistent in coming out to do various services to the lawn, but it's not been effective. First, there was an unbelievable grasshopper (lubber) infestation where thousands of them infected our plants. I called and they showed up a week later, but the damage was done by that point. Not long after that, we started seeing trouble spots of areas that were turning brown. We reported it, and they started treating for chinch bugs, and continued to do so for the entire summer, but the bugs spread and got worse. Much worse to the point where nearly half our lawn had been claimed and destroyed. Brian agreed they would resolve it by replacing the damaged lawn in July, but said they would do nothing until October when the weather was more accommodating for sod replacement. While I wasn't thrilled, I did understand that, so I was patient. Meanwhile weeds grew in and ran rampant everywhere. About 1 week before the start of October, I contacted Brian and asked if he could begin the process to replace the sod as although it wasn't October yet, we were close, and it takes time for them to measure, treat and ultimately install the sod. He refused to do ANYTHING until October. As of today, October 21st, NOTHING has been done and we are being threatened by our HoA to deal with it.

Needless to say, I am not happy and at this stage cannot recommend them.

Beware of Massey Services

Hired Massey Services at nearly double the price I was paying the existing company I was using which was Citrus Pest Control. I had high expectations. Massey promised a laundry list of 14 services they would perform to fix all the issues their inspector/salesman found with my lawn. When the technician came out I wasn't home. They left no report of what they did. I was able to go online and see the report the technician wrote up. He basically fertilized the lawn. The initial inspector/salesman was raving about the fungus in my yard yet no fungus control was done. They promised PH testing of the soil, this was not done. They promised aeration, this was not done. The list goes on. I called the corporate office and cancelled my service. They took my cancellation notice and said the service manager would contact me. Well that never happened. I called the local branch and spoke to the office manager. He blamed his technicians and and said he would come out himself. This never happened. A few days later a technician shows up at my house to treat my lawn. I told him I had cancelled and sent him on his way. He said his manager would be contacting me. That never happened. Today when I came home from work there was a Massey sign in my yard. They had come and sprayed my lawn while I was gone. When I called the local branch I was told that there was no cancellation in the computer and I needed to cancel by certified mail 30 days in advance. The woman I spoke with said she was cancelling my services but I went straight to the post office and sent a certified letter to the corporate office. Hiring Massey was the most costly mistake of 2025 for me. Don't be fooled by their promises like I was. They are no better than any of the other companies out there and possibly the worst. Certainly the most expensive.

They do not honor previous co. Promises

Massey bug service is so big because they've been buying out smaller companies. My company, Solstys was bought by them. Solstys was awesome!! If pmt was late, they were verry patient. Massey bug service is Not! To take me back, they want to charge almost double. Now if I had a hard time getting payment to them at ½ the cost, how am I to afford the new rate? Our bug company was always paid, but things have been difficult in last 4 yrs. Massey Will Not Move On Their New High Rate. They are now a huge Company, treating us all like numbers, not people! I do not ever recommend Big Co.s for this reason. It's not how well the service is done, or how a customer was loyal, it's the bottom line, money!!

Do not hire!

I started to notice that the weeds in our grass were getting more and more. I kept getting bills from Massey but never saw any yard signs that they normally stick in your yard when they come. I went back on our cameras and wqtched the dates that they said they were there from our bill. Literally watched the guy pull up at 12:50, didnt get out of his truck till 1:05. Went down the perimeter of my house and just sprayed right in front of where he walked. Left by 1:15. I called and told them that I did not want him to do my yard anymore and was assured that it would be the manager from now on. The next time it was, but the next time, it was the same guy that I asked them not to send. He did the exact same thing put with the granules and didn't even go down one whole side of my house or the back. I just called and canceled. I don't want to pay someone that I have to babysit. I am paying for a service, not to be their babysitter. Do they not realize that almost everyone has cameras nowadays?

Do not recommend

The first year, great service and made a difference. then I added tick and mosquito for a bug extra chunk I might add. might have helped a little the first summer, but I tried to cancel my subscription because I was seeing more live bugs and I never know when someone was coming to spray until maybe an 8pm text. I had wanted them to treat inside, but I work and they were horrible trying to coordinate that and also I watched the repeat application when I called to cancel and they wanted a chance to “do better and earn my trust again” and ring camera showed him barely stepping on front porch. one squirt on a little side, nothing under front door or other side of porch or under an exterior window?? For the amount I pay, I should not see any bugs alive in my house. they did not come up on back deck, nor do my garages. when it was managed by Knoxville office initially, better service. Now that they have a local Johnson City office, no thanks!! I had to talk to 3 people to cancel it and gave them another chance—-started getting bills in March and was told wouldn’t owe anything until July and called once and told them. keep getting monthly statements and have left 2 messages to cancel service and it’s 4:15pm and still have not heard from anyone.

Horrible and unprofessional

Massey was told by 2 different family members on 2 different occasions to cancel all services. They were paid in full at that time. They have this information in their notes and have admitted to that. Yet, they are trying to collect payment for services after the contract was cancelled and they were told to stop all services. They have called me on 2 different holidays now to ask for payment for services they were not contracted to or authorized to perform. This is harassment.

Company does not keep scheduled appointments

I have had a contract on two properties with Massey for numerous of years. The first issue I had was I had an appointment for a Massey Technician to perform a service call on a Friday. The Technician did not show up for the appointment nor did the technician nor the company call to reschedule the appointment.

I called Massey to get an explanation and Massey basically said it was an oversight. I was assured this problem would not happen again.

The second issue I have is that two weeks later on another scheduled appointment, the Massey Technician did not show up for the appointment nor did the technician nor the company call to reschedule the appointment.

I called Massey’s Manager (James) to get an explanation. I was given an excuse that Massey basically was having a personnel issue. I explained to the Manager (James) that excuse was not acceptable because someone in the office could have called and rescheduled the appointment. The Manager (James) said he would call me back with an acceptable resolution to the issue I have been happening.

The third, and possibly last, issue I have with Massey is It has been more than a week and I have not received a call back from the Massey Manager (James).

Summary: Within a 4-week period I had two appointments with Massey and the Massey Technician did not show for the appointments nor did Technician or company call to reschedule the appointments.

I have not had many issues with Massey in the past but now this company has some of the worst customer service. Massey Services don’t seen to value its customers or its customer’s time.

MASSEY EXTORTS HOMEOWNERS!!!

I bought a new home from the original owner in 2022. Apparently, the original owner had a deal with Massey Services in Lakeland Florida. Today two employees came to my home and removed the bait traps around my home. I had no contract with them, never did! This is a sleazy way to extort people to use them or they will remove the bait traps from previous owner / customer. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! BEWARE!!! THEY HAVE A TON OF COMPLAINTS!!!

I was a regular customer of Massey for…

I was a regular customer of Massey for years. Always paid a year in advance. I was satisfied with the services provided. However, recently I was told of a possible snake nest in my yard. I emailed Massey 2 times asking for advice. No response. I then asked for the courtesy of a response. The response I got was we don’t do that. When I finally threatened to cancel my service, I got a terse email with a phone number of a company to call. I decided to cancel my subscription to Massey because of poor customer service. They then told me it would take 6 weeks to get a refund, (I charged it back on my credit card). Now they are trying to short change my refund for over $100. Bottom line: good service but POOR customer service.

unfair company

This is a horrible company to do business with. They are rude and unfair and their products are nothing like they are described as in their catalog. Do not buy anything from Masseys. You will only have to return the items.
