I must say sparx maths isn't designed with the purpose of improving students' maths skills nor practicing logic.
I have used sparx maths for more than 4 years and found many of its questions are not helpful for my upcoming GCSE. To be fair, I can't solve many questions on sparx but that is not my reason to write this piece of review here. I can't do those questions simply just because they will not, or have never appeared in any AQA/Edexcel GCSE Maths paper. I do both Further Maths and Higher Tier so I normally can solve any single question. I don't think it is good for challenging me: I will just do some past paper of UKMT IMC.
Also, the lady who is making the support video is absolutely, or most of the time is helpless.

I do not recommend you spend loads of time on it. I would rather go through some actual GCSE papers.

Sparx Maths often frustrates students because it can feel more like a test of endurance than a tool for genuine learning. Many users say the questions are repetitive, the explanations can be overly rigid, and the system sometimes marks answers wrong for tiny formatting issues rather than actual mathematical misunderstanding. That kind of strictness can make the platform feel discouraging instead of supportive, especially when you’re trying to build confidence in a subject that already challenges a lot of people. The weekly compulsory tasks can also create pressure, turning maths practice into a chore rather than an opportunity to improve. And while the intention behind Sparx is good—personalised learning, structured practice—the experience can feel impersonal, as if the software cares more about ticking boxes than helping students understand concepts in a flexible, human way. When a learning tool becomes something students dread instead of something that empowers them, it’s clear that the design isn’t fully aligned with how people actually learn best. SO GET RID OF THIS ASS THING.

As a year 9 pupil with high-functioning autism I find myself dreading doing homework now because oh my god it is quite literally the WORST thing I have ever used in my life.

When you get a question wrong in the times table segment of homework, even on accident, it stifles you with "DURR, what's 8x9" or whatever for WEEKS if not MONTHS. It is quite literally very annoying for me since naturally, I work fast and I'm one of the best pupils when it comes to mathematics in my school, so when I'm being slowed down it annoys me.

And then the questions themselves in the homework. If you get a question wrong more than THREE times, it changes the numbers drastically without actually making the question, y'know, EASIER so that it could be understood? I have saw my classmates struggle on questions because of this.

It also includes an EXP system which entices kids to work at home. I understand that but literally using DIGITAL INTERNET POINTS?

My school has recently switched to Sparx from the traditional way of just doing homework on paper (I'd say about 2-3 months ago) and. WHY. Just WHY. At least take the time to read these OTHER reviews from these OTHER students in OTHER schools before implementing such a shitty program in a CRUCIAL building block of your shitshow of a school.

I don't know who made sparx but whoever did can absolutely stay in a dark pit of hell. I know it's an hour every week but it feels like the hour lasts a week. Even people in my school are PAYING people to do their sparx because it's just useless, boring, and you don't learn anything from it. I just use Google lens because I can't be bothered either. I used to care but now it's just repetitive grueling work. If negative stars was an option I would absolutely use them.

I was sitting in the computer room after lunch, staring at my Sparx Maths homework. The screen glowed in my face while question after question popped up.

I had already tried three different answers, and every time the same red message appeared: **Incorrect. Try again.**

I leaned back in my chair and sighed.

“Why does x even want to be found?” I muttered.

Everyone else in the room seemed to be working quietly. All I could hear was the tapping of keyboards and the ticking clock on the wall. Meanwhile I was stuck on question two.

Then I felt someone standing behind me.

I slowly turned around and saw my teacher, Mr. Carter. He had that look teachers get when they’re not impressed.

“How many questions have you done?” he asked.

“Uh… two,” I said.

He looked at the screen. Both answers were wrong.

Mr. Carter sighed. “You’ve been here twenty minutes.”

“I know,” I said. “But Sparx is being… difficult.”

He didn’t say anything for a moment. Instead, he grabbed my chair and spun it around so I was facing the window.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Giving you a new learning strategy,” he said.

Before I could react, he pulled me up, walked me across the room, opened the window, and—somehow—pushed me straight out of it.

For a split second I thought, *This is it.*

Then I landed with a soft **thump** on the grass outside. Luckily the classroom was only on the ground floor.

I just lay there for a moment staring at the sky.

A few seconds later Mr. Carter leaned out of the window.

“Well?” he called down.

“Well what?” I shouted back.

“Did that help you think about the question?”

I sat up and brushed grass off my jumper.

“Not really,” I said. “But at least Sparx can’t mark this answer wrong.”

Mr. Carter nodded.

“Fair enough,” he said. “Come back in when you're ready for question three.”

I sighed, stood up, and walked toward the door.

Next time, I thought, I might actually try to find x.

I am under constant stress because of this website. Algorithm gives questions that i have not even learnt in class yet expects me to get 100% completion. Which ruins the whole point of homework to train you on questions you know. The support videos do not help me at all and sometimes has a completely different topic to the one I am on. the Sparx Maths website says that it's important to write down your working out and that's why they have bookwork checks, but when the checks come on, you just click on the answer, you don't have to show any working out, defeating the whole point of the bookwork check.
The timetables task only gives you 6 seconds to answer the question, and as an autistic student I have slower processing speed, so by the time i process the question the time is already up, then i have to spend 30 seconds just to correct it. After it slowly shows me the question and i press okay there is a timer with a prompt to 'keep saying it in your head' This timer is absolutely useless and was probably made to waste even more time. This website just gives me anxiety and stress and is impossible to complete without using the internet or AI, and sometimes even AI struggles with the questions.

DELETE SPARKS OF THE FACE OF THE EARTH it has ruined my life and made it ten times more stressful and now my school life is just ten times worse having to do all three every week

This platform is an absolute joke. It is designed to waste as much of your life as possible. What should be a quick homework task turns into a three-hour nightmare because of the 'support' questions that punish you for every tiny mistake. It’s not teaching me math; it’s teaching me how to hate it. The interface is clunky, the bookwork checks are a mindless chore, and the whole system is a massive drain on my time and mental health. Fix your broken algorithm or get rid of it entirely

Ok: I will be doing maths (easy way to pass time) and it is already an annoying thing to do sparx - I need music just to concntrate - and then I get a question based on counting like what kind of maths is that. If anyone who can sees this: do us all a favour and shut this scam and waste of time down - quick!

The Worst app ever it gives too many bookwork codes which are frustrating to deal with. I will never use this app it's the wurst app ever. I mean it. The Wurst.

Sparx maths is quite literally PAINFUL. I try to do it, but oh no, the answer is wrong. Well, I get a few more tries, right? WRONG. I get 3 tries, and then it drastically changes the numbers - but doesn't make the question easier. All that would be bad enough, but there are other problems too. For example, the 'helpful' videos. They're not helpful at all, and sometimes, just not even getting the question right. And other times, the 'correct' answer isn't even correct. Yeah, this thing sucks. I also have to do it EVERY WEEK and it apparently 'scales to your ability' which is NOT true, and is just an excuse for giving me completely random questions which I have not been taught about in the slightest. Like, I thought the teachers were meant to set this stuff?? So well done, sparx maths. You have gained another of your many 1-star reviews.

I'm sorry, but as someone who really enjoys maths, this website is trying to make me hate it. ARE WE KIDDING? TEN QUESTIONS FOR EACH SECTION, AND BOOKWORK CHECKS. And it never, EVER, lets me get something wrong. I'm supposed to learn from my mistakes, but here I never even get to make them because this stupid website chucks pointless, frustrating questions at me. DR STOYANOV PLEASE STOP SETTING US SPARX

Absolutely AWFUL, I dread doing these homeworks it's genuinely my idea of living hell. As someone who hates maths anyway this doesn't help AT ALL. Ban sparx maths it's a danger to childrens mental health and why should I have to write everything down in a notebook it's not a sweet innocent way to help children engage in maths it's a child manipulation tactic made with intending to control and mentally hurt children
