The staff were very helpful and the vehicle ran pretty well. The setup of the motorhome was very good and we were convinced to spend about $1000 extra on a Maui over an apollo because the motorhome was new. It turned out the cab chassis was new as was the fitout, but the fibreglass body was over 10 years old imho. It leaked through the roof and we had to stop for an afternoon to get it repaired. I used that opportunity to look at the sealing on the roof and found the silicone sealant was very old, damaged and missing in places.

The repair services and customer service was very good and all costs were covered.

Hi Brian, thank you for your 4-star review. We regret to hear that you had problems with leaking. All maui motorhomes (including the fibreglass body) are less than 2 years on fleet, but leaking is unacceptable at any vehicle age and we understand how inconvenient this was. We are happy to hear the repairs were made and we hope that, despite this, you still managed to make some amazing memories on the road.

The Dream vs The Reality

We completed a trip with Maui in March this year.

The Nullabor has been on our list for a while now - it's time came - I booked in Oct. 2025.

We arrived at the Maui depot in Adelaide shortly after 9 am. It was not very busy as such (about 4 groups of people waiting). In turn, all the paperwork was done, however we were told that the camper was not ready. At about 10:30/10:45, we were advised that the camper was ready. The show through, was like "here is the fridge, here is this, here is that". I had watched all the video's on THL app, and so I was pretty relaxed about this approach. I did however feel the camper could have been a bit cleaner, but then we all have different standards of clean, and so I accepted her word that everything had been checked and would be working, and off we went.

A cold front had passed over South Australia, and so the temperatures were pleasant to start off with, with a bit of rain. This resulted in us not using the aircon for the first 6/7 days.

Upon arrival in Norseman, the temperature was 37 dgs. I went to switch the aircon on - NOTHING except fan (moving hot air from a to b and back again. The temperature that night was 25 dgs outside, inside the camper it was a lot warmer, resulting in VERY broken sleep.

These day/night time temperatures continued for the next 6 days. As result of the rain we had on our way west, the fly population had EXPLODED, and sitting outside became impossible. Things were particularly bad at the Nullabor roadhouse, where I upgraded to a cabin, from the powered site, as my wife was physically sick from the heat inside the camper. (thank goodness we had an option there).

Anyway, I took the issue up with Maui Adelaide upon our return. In fairness the cabin accommodation was paid for, however I was not happy at the compensation offered with regards the inoperative aircon. I escalated this until I got a resolution, that I was "sort of" happy with. That said, the gloss of the trip had been well and truly been taken away.

Some points from all of the above.
1) On the Nullabor, one has to be on a "pure" Telstra cell phone plan to get some cell phone coverage. I was with 2 Degrees NZ with Australian roaming, but got no cell cover from Ceduna, until back at Ceduna.
2) Wi-fi is very patchy and not all camp grounds offer it, including the campground we used in Norseman and in Ceduna. (very frustrating)
3) Get hold of on road assistance for ANY/EVERYTHING, even if you have no wi-fi or cell phone cover (beg, steal or borrow someone's phone!).
4) DO NOT ASSUME, CHECK EVERYTHING, before driving away, including weight of the gas bottle (it may not have been re-filled as required by the previous tenant).

So will I use Maui again? - NO.

A relationship going back to 2004, broke on this trip. I am not sure what is happening within THL (*) ,but we have noticed a steady downward trend in terms of quality of the campers, and cleanliness.
(*) my considered opinion is, that the turn round times are too tight, and it appears that there are no systems in place to check and repair what needs to be repaired.

If any senior THL manager reads this;
a) Premium means - I am prepared to pay more for a better quality product.
b) Two years should be the vehicles max/total age of Maui campers,
c) It appears to me, that every time I take comprehensive insurance on a camper, I get a vehicle that has had a very "hard" life.
d) Staff need to increased at peak times,
e) In this day and age where geo-polytypical events are going to have a significant, if not major, impact on your business, (diesel close to AUD 4.00/lt at the Nullabor roadhouse - March 2026), I think THL needs to re-think the impact of the "small" things on customers.
f) I am more than happy to discuss further.

The Motorhome was excellent and the staff were professional and fast.

Easy pick up, easy drop off, professional staff, efficient, motorhome had only done 4,000 km so was basically brand new. No issues except one ladder bracket came loose, which is a very minor thing. We did 6,500km - from Adelaide to the SW of WA and back in three weeks, and loved it.

Great service/experience

The staff at Adelaide were awesome, and at Sydney. Van was ready when we got there and we were served promptly on arrival by friendly staff. The van had a broken drawer which was also fixed quickly.

Better explanation on how things worked ..

I felt that the person doing that introduction and on how the campervan worked was quite vague . Clearer explanation could have been given . Payment confirmation can be better as well . After paying no acknowledgement was given from company till 1 week later . The insurance pack is a must . Might as well add it in as a standard for peace of mind . Since they didn't even go through on what is already damaged when collection of campervan. The person was more keen in pushing for additional package rather than making us feel comfortable on the collection. However returning the campervan experience was good . Fuss free and easy . Happy with the service during returning

Hi there, we're sorry to hear your pick-up experience was not as it should have been. We do strive to provide the best service we can at all times. With regards to operating the camper, we do have a full walkthrough video as well as specific 'how to' videos on our Roadtrip App that should have helped you be more comfortable with the vehicle. We are sorry if you weren't shown this at pick-up as our aim is to ensure all of our guests feel supported and comfortable with their camper before they leave. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for your review.
