Do not recommend

Do not recommend. Unexpected fee increases, inaccurate tax returns, condescending emails & unclear communication.

I hired May & Wood, PC for my 2025 personal and S-corp tax prep after a referral. The work had real accuracy issues: my return initially showed $1000+ in "estimated tax payments" I never made, and when I caught it against my IRS records, they confirmed it was pulled incorrectly from a prior CPA's erroneous vouchers, raising my balance due by over $1,200. All they had to do is check it against my accounts.

Communication was often unclear and required repeated follow-up to get a straight answer.

Even after their mistakes, when I pushed back on a $600 fee increase (added on top of an already-agreed $3000+ quote), Matt Wood responded: "You will need to adjust your expectations." When I said that framing felt unnecessary, he wrote: "There will be no more disagreements... Emails like this and the time needed to respond to them will only serve to increase your bill, not lower them." Shaming me for asking questions or sending emails? I run my own client-facing business and would never speak to a client this way.

I'd recommend having a second person double check any return details before letting this firm file for you.

Better yet, avoid them completely.
