Deceptive Sales, False Advertising, and Zero Accountability

I purchased what was represented as a Certified Pre-Owned Mercedes-Benz from this dealership in July 2025, and it’s been nothing short of a nightmare.

From day one, the advertising was deceptive — photos conveniently hid missing window tint and a peeling steering wheel, issues that were never disclosed. When I asked about service history, I was told the car had recently undergone full Mercedes service, and the Carfax “just hadn’t updated yet.” That was a lie. I’ve since confirmed that none of those services were actually performed.

To make matters worse, the dealership now claims my vehicle was sold “as is,” despite the fact that it was clearly marketed and sold to me as Certified Pre-Owned. That’s a major contradiction and a serious misrepresentation.

They also said the car had four new tires — but only two were replaced. The other two are from 2018, which is far from safe or acceptable. My check engine light is now on, and a missing sensor was discovered — a separate issue that once again points to their failure to properly inspect the car.

Throughout all of this, my calls and emails to the dealership and the sales manager have been completely ignored. I haven’t asked for anything unreasonable — just honesty and acknowledgment of the facts.

What makes this even more painful is the timing. I’ve been recovering from back-to-back surgeries and navigating a very uncertain period in my life. This car was supposed to be a small piece of stability — my dream car and a bit of hope during a difficult transition. Instead, Mercedes-Benz of Walnut Creek has made that transition even harder through their dishonesty, lack of integrity, and disregard for their customers.

If you value transparency, professionalism, or even basic decency, do not buy from this dealership. What they advertise and what you actually get are two entirely different things.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs! They don't deserve any stars. Mercedes Benz of Walnut Creek sold me an unsafe/undrivable 2021 Volvo XC90 Recharge Inscription. It's been sitting at my local Volvo dealer for several weeks due to a very serious open recall involving the hybrid battery - which has the potential to make the vehicle spontaneously combust! It could take up to a month to get the parts/make the highly complex repairs to the vehicle. The Volvo dealer would not even allow me to take the vehicle/bring it back once the parts were available because the car was deemed unsafe to drive/house!! Did Mercedes Benz of Walnut Creek know how serious the recall was prior to selling me the car? Also, MB of WC misrepresented how the car was to be shipped from Northern CA to Southern CA. I paid top dollar to have the car delivered and pick up my trade-in; however, it was delivered on a trailer towed by a pick-up truck. Lastly, MB of WC didn't disclose the vehicle had mismatched tires, was missing the hybrid charging cable and the cargo cover - which are standard items on this model. I've contacted both the dealership/parent company Sonic Automotive, but they've been ignoring my communications. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!

Horrendous experience, as an apology they put the price up!

We have had such a horrendous experience in attempting to buy a vehicle this last week

I feel you should be aware of how the staff in particular the salesman Martin Pham has treated and spoken to us. I asked to speak to a senior person after many calls and no responses.
Unfortunately I was transferred to John Lee the head of finance.
He didnt even apologise. Just emailed us stating he decided that the the car value had risen by 9000 USD. The guide price is approx 33,000 on the advert but he decided it should be the 9000 USD more than advertised price of 38000 USD
Making a total of 47000 which is the original cost of the 10 year old vehicle. I'm astonished.
It would be about 50% over Kelly mid book price!
John Lees response was obviously not an apology but an f ... Off, instead.
Astonishing.

Its not about the money, I am more concerned about the way we have been ignored passed around put on hold so many times an basically just bullshitted without any care about our attempts to discuss the car purchase. We had been very clear in writing about our position regarding being out of state. No advice or helpful explanation was give either.

We are astonished at the absolute mindless way we have been treated and John Lees response to our concerns by just putting the price up!!

I was equally astonished to read your Code above and how it is exactly the opposite of your company vision in this regard.

I feel so aggrieved at being treated like that, I could not just walk away.

Car dealers do not have a good reputation generally but what walnut Creak did creates new lows.

We are out of state buyers and we're ready to pay without a loan. We don't need any other matters such as registering the car in CA. It should have been so simple. Sign, pay, phone my prearranged shipping agent and go for a cool drink.
But to get this absurd attitude from the staff at Walnut Creak that very easily have made a cash sale is astonishing.
The car may be just a 10 year old Dodge Challenger SRT, but we should not be treated like dirt under foot, whether it is an old car or a new mercedes .
The staff there have no care of the company ethics and obviously do not give hoot about the reputation of the business
I am interested in you response, in particular due to the effort you have put into your website about your Code of conduct and business ethics.

This John Lee finance director ought to know better. Martin Pham may be a poor salesman with a bad attitude, but what are management doing about it?

I obviously cannot leave one good word as feedback and I am compelled to report the sharp practice to Autotrader. The matter of their attitudes and lack of professionalism is in your hands
