Just awful
Just awful. Didn't bother to even put up a for sale sign. Set up a friend to do a test viewing who said there wasn't much effort to sell the house. Then they come back to me saying I need to reduce the price - to hasten a sale so they can grab their commission. Sacked them in the end and appointed new agency.
We recently sold a house using…
We recently sold a house using McFarlane and they were extremely polite and helpful. We would particularly like to mention Jo Costin who went over and above expectations.
Avoid this Company
Sadly, we had to deal with Jo Costin of the Wood Street, Swindon branch as her company were selling the house we wanted to buy. She introduced herself by email, as "I will be dealing with the progression of your purchase".
- it took 3 or 4 emails before she got the house number correct.
- her congrats email on the day we exchanged gave an incorrect completion date
- but the worst was the state of the house on completion. The house, garden and garage were full of the tenants' unwanted cr*p.
I'd have thought that she might have sent someone in to check the house which McFarlanes had been renting out for the absent owners for years. But appently that's not her department and therefore not her responsibility.
The most galling aspect was Jo Costin telling me it was our solicitor's responsibility because they should have advised us to view the property again before exchanging contracts!
These are the consequences, for us, in dealing with a large company where blame is shunted between different departments and different people, ending up with no-one taking responsibility and things not getting done. We will be suing for breach of contract.
Better of to damage the property, since will not get deposit back
Starting off they need need as much information as the bank need for a mortgage. then they have quarterly property inspections. after that when you move out it is mandatory to have the property professionally cleaned. getting your full deposit back is impossible. at the end got robbed £250.
These people are awful
These people are awful. One woman, who all the tradesmen that visit for to the numerous issues arising in their properties can't bear her. She is so passive aggressive and doesn't seem to realise that the tenants are paying for a service. We have rotten floorboards in the conservatory that was under an inch of water. Black mould keeps coming back over and over again. We can't wait for the tenancy to end. They are utterly terrible. Please avoid! They make you feel like they are doing a huge favour to fix the issues, that's their job!
Awful letting agents
Awful letting agents. Sending passive aggressive emails and making out they are doing tenants a favour for repairing a property! Avoid!
poor lettings service
I approached McFarlane and put in an application for several properties to rent - I was desperately looking for a place to rent in Swindon as I was starting a job and was living in a hotel in another city having just relocated back to the UK from overseas. I sent them all income documentation, job offer letter, references, etc. In short, I gave them everything to reassure them that I was a serious applicant). I applied for as many properties as I could to secure one, but they never updated me on my applications, despite chasing them repeatedly. I asked to apply for more properties but they never followed up. After a while, it became clear that they never really took my application seriously. Needless to say I ended up renting from somewhere else. I wrote to their Director and complained about their poor lettings service and told him that I hoped their selling team were much better as I would be looking to purchase very soon as a first time buyer. The Director never responded to my email, so for me it was clear that they were never interested in my business. I am looking to purchase my first property and needless to say, I will avoid any properties advertised by McFarlane as it is clear they never took me seriously and it is a hard experience to forget. The other estate agents I have approached have been very quick to respond, and have even referred me to one of their brokers (whom I am using) and solicitors. This is lost business for McFarlane, but if that is how they operate, I am glad to steer clear of them.
Lock your doors
This agency will send their staff to your house to do "inspections" completely unnanounced. They won't contact you, they will show up at your door and let themselves into your property.
This happend just today, my partner (f) was home alone and a McFarlane agent (m) let himself into the property and then refused to leave until being asked a dozen times. Watch out
Long term customers
We have used Macfarlane’s for many years and have used them as managing agents as well as buying and selling properties,
We deal with the lettings team presently and the whole team are professional and diligent in all aspects of the lettings process. I can call and speak to someone at any time to discuss any concerns I may have. Emails are answered promptly.
For example this very evening I responded to an email from Sarah Cole regarding a query she asked me.
I had a response from her ‘after hours’ which is going over and above in my book!
Would ( and have !) thoroughly recommend!
Great Service
I have been very impressed with Mcfarlane's services throughout the process. A special mention for Silvia who helped greatly as at one point our chain came close to collapsing but she demonstrated great commitment and dedication to ensure the move completed successfully.
Move to Cricklade.
McFarlanes managed our sale throughout with great professionalism. It was a challenging chain that needed a lot of support and many thanks must go to Silvia in Cricklade, who tirelessly kept on top of events and ensured we remained well informed throughout. Thank you.

Brilliant team in both lettings and sales.
Highly recommended.
Kept informed at all times during sale and we couldn't have wished for nicer people.
Highly Recommended.
I have used the services of this company 3 times now having sold 2 properties through them and also had them manage a property rental of mine.
I have previously engaged other companies in the past who’s services ranged from fine (adequate) to others that were a screaming nightmare.
Please believe me when I say that you are in safe, professional and caring hands with them that always go the extra mile to look after your interests.
