I have been with MCS Heating in Hull for 2 Years

I have been with MCS Heating in Hull for about 2 years now and I have their boiler and plumbing cover. This is definitely worth having and worth the money. I can honestly say, the company have provided an excellent service overall and all the staff have great customer service skills. This includes their office staff, office manager and their engineers. I recently had an issue with my 1 year old Worcester boiler and Nathan came out and identified the error as the heat exchanger. He then arranged with the office to contact Worcester to get their engineer to come out and replace it. The Worcester boiler engineer came out to me, went into my walk in loft which was boarded out with lighting, went to the boiler and opened it up, but wouldn't replace the part due to the floor not meeting health and safety requirements. I had to get the loft re-floored before Worcester would go in again! Thankfully, after speaking to MCS and informing them that I couldn't be without hot water or heating for 2 weeks, they told me not to worry and they would help me out. They arranged for the part to be dropped off at their office and then Nathan came back to fit it in 3 days. Now that is what I call customer service. They really went that extra mile to prevent me from being more stressed. I have also just had a leaking radiator repaired by Tim on Friday, who is so friendly and very thorough in his work too. After repairing the radiator, he went round the whole bungalow to check the rest of them and double checked my water pressure. I do recommend using this company and I want to thank them for really looking after me when I was really upset and worried.
Take out the cover, its really worth it!

A gas boiler replacement.

Owing to a water leak we had to replace our 22 year old gas boiler fairly quickly. We collected three estimates and, although not the cheapest, we selected MCS as they had the boiler we wanted (after reading Which? reviews) in stock. The job was done on our chosen days by Rob who was punctual, personable and efficient. We were without water for about 5 hours; at the end of Day 1 the boiler was fully working. Day 2 involved cleansing and flushing the system and tidying up. Rob then gave us a full demonstration of the controls and settings. He was very thorough in his approach and left everything neat and tidy.
We are extremely pleased with the installation and recommend MCS and Rob without hesitation .

Over priced and uninterested in the work

Asked for a quote for a replacement boiler (so not a cheap job), the guy came around stinking of oil and was gone in less than 10 minutes. He obviously wasn't interested in the work, didn't write anything down, kept looking at his phone. On his way out the door I ask when I'd get a quote and he said he would email it shortly.

After waiting a few days I called the office to ask when I'd get the quote, they said they'd call me back; this repeated for the next 2 days. On the last call they put me on hold then came back to say they had emailed me the quote that morning (I didn't receive anything, even in my spam folder) and they gave me a price over the phone which was £300 more than British Gas - which is impressively expensive!

Why they couldn't just be honest and say they're not interested in doing the work I don't know. Instead they caused me delays in giving the work to other companies.

We are sorry that we couldn't meet your expectations on this occasion.

The engineer in question is an oil engineer and even with the best will in the world, it is very difficult to not smell of oil after working with it. I'm sure you will agree that it isn't practical for the engineer to return home after every job to prevent this from occurring.

The engineer was likely noting down on his PDA the specific requirements of the job and what was required ready for sending your quotation. At no point was it mentioned that the job was urgent, and we do not guarantee to send quotes immediately. Your quote was sent within 4 days of us attending.

I have checked our sent folder and your quotation was sent to your email address twice, I assume the email details you provided may have initially been incorrect.

We regularly compare prices with alternative providers and are normally cheaper when comparing similar quotes. The British Gas quote you received is not comparative as they only offer a 5 year warranty, not a 12 year warranty as we offer. We also do not require you to have a service plan in order for the warranty to stand. This week we did in fact beat a British Gas quotation by over £1,600 for the same work whilst offering 7 years additional guarantee.

We do not aim to be the cheapest installers as to do so would require cutting corners and rushing work. We focus on providing quality products and a great level of aftercare.
