MealPal refuses to cancel or refund my account. Please stop using this service immediately. It's a sham and truly a sad company. I keep emailing customer service to cancel my account, but they have never responded and it's impossible to cancel over the website or mobile app.
Also, the templated response on here is cute.
"Hi [INSERT FIRST NAME HERE], thank you for taking the time to review us and for your feedback. This is not the experience we want to provide! Please contact us at kivers @mealpal.com so that we can take a look at your account."
As if, Kevin Ivers of MealPal would actually respond to any emails or calls from customers. It's just a feeble attempt at appeasing customers on TrustPilot so others won't see what truly happens after they email Kevin.
Stop using MealPal everyone!

This company is a fraud. Please do not purchase from them. You'll never see your money. Their phone number is unavailable. Only email with a person playing dumb on the other side. They will charge you every month without your authorization.

Please do not use MealPal! After my own experience, I am very concerned that other people may be getting scammed and tricked into a subscription service that they can never get rid of.
I subscribed to MealPal a few months ago and when the pandemic hit, I could not suspend or cancel my account on the mobile app or online. I emailed customer service and a customer service representative, Raven, responded that MealPal would cancel my account. I thought that was the end but lo and behold, I was charged for the next month! I kept emailing and calling customer service but then MealPal closed their customer service line “due to COVID”. What company closes their customer service line during a time where their customers need them the most? Are they actually trying to lose business?
During difficult times like this pandemic, it’s even more important for companies to step up and do what’s right. Unfortunately, MealPal just wants to keep their coins and tighten their purse strings. Their behavior is very telling... and I’m looking at you CEO & Founder, Mary Biggins, who also doesn’t have the best reputation (check out the scathing Glassdoor reviews, but I digress).
For anyone in a similar position as myself, please do the following to prevent future, unwarranted charges from MealPal: 1) Dispute the charge with your debit or credit card company or 2) Change your debit or credit card information that is on file with MealPal. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all costs. It’s not worth your time or money.

My experience with mealpal has been going on well for a month until Febuary that we are forced to work from home. Then I decided to cancel my plan, but the only option was to suspend it at the time. So I suspended it for a couple months and then later I realize I do not need it any more so I decide to cancel it. However, here's when the shady stuff comes. The app actually stops you from logging in during suspension unless you resubscribe! That's ridiculous! Then I have to search online and found out that I have to send email to their customer support to cancel my plan. Later they responded that they will suspend my plan for one more month and let me rollover the missed meals. Then I got busy for two weeks only to realize today that my plan is resubscribed and bills are charged!!! The extended suspension or rollover missed meals are non-existent! I thought I could come back to resolve this before it resubscribed.. Also now since I can log in, i try to cancel my account and it actually won't allow me to... So yeah, I can't cancel it on the app. Also I can't take my credit card off my account. It was hidden once you add your card. That's not cool. This whole thing really drives me nuts. I never see anything like this.

Mealpal have started taking £4.99 from my account each month since October 2019 as a 'membership fee' without ever notifing me or asking for my permission.
The only reason I noticed was when I saw unrecognised transactions on my credit card bill and thought my mealpal account had been hacked.
I appreciate times are difficult at the moment, but this kind of shady business practice is tantamount to fraud!
Edit:
I was caught off guard because this was the exact contents of the only email I received from Mealpal:
"WELCOME TO MealPal Marketplace
We hope you enjoy your first order!
We want to let you know that your account is no
longer on hold and you can order meals
whenever you'd like, no subscription required!"
Notice it does NOT mention a monthly charge and even goes so far to say 'no subscription required'.
And nor does Mealpal send a monthly receipt/invoice to notify you that you're being charged a regular fee.
They have since offered a partial refund which still leaves me several months out of pocket.

I got an email saying my on hold was about to end, and to go to my account to update resume date. However, when I went to the app to try to and push the date farther back, the only thing that showed up was a resume button and I couldn't get rid of this so it forced me to reactivate my account when I didn't want to. Got charged. Luckily..someone happened to fix the issue fast which is why I gave it an extra star. However, now on mobile and desktop if I try to log in the only thing that it shows is to reactivate or buy plans. I can't even go to my account section anymore which means when my account on hold is ending I'll have to ask customer support to move my account on hold again another 3 months

I cancelled by email (only way to request cancellation) and got an acknowledgement.
They have not cancelled, and the kick in the teeth is that they have been charging a monthly fee.
I have already sent several emails... to hello@mealpal and kivers@mealpal.
Scam artists.

Horrible experience from Mealpal. Does not provide professional customer service when there are issues. 1) Referred a friend and did not receive credit for it because they had the friend's email address, even though it was the first time the friend signed up. 2) Promotional offer was not honored and was double charged without consent. Emailed customer service and was told the duplicate charge stands.

I stopped using MealPal since Aug 2018. This morning I found out that they have been keeping charging me since then every month. I checked all my emails receiving from MealPal, they have never informed me that they were renewing my plan every month and even increased the charged amount. If this is company policy changed, they should have send an official email saying their policy changed with legal notice, instead of saying "we have great news for you". I already sent an email to mealpal to get a refund. I will see what they are going to reply to me because lots of people here said they refused to refund. They have been charging me for more than a year secretly. This is ridiculous and obviously MealPal treats their customers like they are stupid.

I have been using MealPal for a period. Everything was fine but not that impressive either (food portion is really small), so from Feb 2020 I stopped using it. Like many other folks suggested, it is not quite clear that they will do automatic renewal to you, so it is likely that you will realize that after a period of getting charges from them almost secretly.
More importantly, there is another even more terrible practice. They actually automatically upgrade your plan, again, like some other posts already suggest. I got the reply from customer service "We sent emails to the email address associated with this account advising that we were upgrading your plan with the option to opt out if wanted. Since you did not indicate that you were not interested your plan was upgraded". This is very ridiculous, I DID NOT ask for upgrade and they did the automatic upgrade for me, which means that the upgrade is without my consent.
It is also very interesting that, MealPal is trying to charge people when during this pandemic period when it is impossible for people to get the services they provide, as restaurants are mostly close. In my honest opinion, this is not ethical.
P.S., For the guys who suggested that it is convenient: the most important part that MealPal can save you is the MONEY, it is a service that you still need to pick up by yourself (most of the food you can order are just fast foods, so wait time was negligible by itself). But given that it is intentionally deceiving its clients, it is easier that you would cost more in the end.

Horrible experience. I was happy for a while and used it for over a year, but they started applying shady business practice recently. The whole nightmate started when they forced my account to upgrade to a more expensive plan, giving me less than 24 hour to OPT-OUT (disgusting!!).
Then, a month later, I asked to cancel my account (because obviously, they don't want to give you a self-service way to do it, again, shady business practice). They first responded with an automated message recommending I put on hold, I said I didn't want to put on hold and cancel anyway. It's now been over 3 weeks, I've been chasing multiple times and they're simply ignoring me. I'm about to file a claim in small claims court now as I'm convinced they'll just try to charge me more for something I asked to cancel.

Being with mealpal for few months served its purpose just fine.I Put the account on hold until deciding to cancel my subscription. While trying to locate the "cancel" button I inadvertently reactivated the account and the cycle kicked in almost immediately. Once i found the email "hello_mealpal.com" to send my cancellation request (including arranging a refund), i waited days for a response. I at least hoped for a confirmation email, but nothing. I sent another email few days later only to recieve an automated response suggesting putting my account on hold instead of cancelling. This is absurd, you cannot subvert someones request once they have followed instructions and contacted you for dire reasons.
I then attempted to contact mealpal through twitter, perhaps the response would bring different results, unfortunately not. It has been almost 3 weeks and I am no close to cancelling my account.
There is no personal relationship / trust between Mealpal and its customers. This service does feel like a scam and I feel its my responsibility to inform those before considering signing up to mealpal.

I'm not sure why the reviews are so bad??? I think MealPal is a good value, has lots of choices, and the customer service is excellent. Due to Covid 19 they gave me extra time to use my meals with no problem. I think some of the people aren't paying attention to the rules and are taking it out on MealPal.

These guys do not even deserve to get one star.
PEOPLE AVOID THIS SPAM! Its absolutely a stupidity.
They send you offers, which they do not usually work.
Then once you sign up and you face an issue, they never reply to you. Even if they do, their reply would be completely useless and nothing to do with your request/concern.
ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS RIPE OFF YOUR POCKETS! A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!
REPORT THIS SCAM SO OTHER PEOPLE DO NOT GET LIED AND RIPPED OFF

I reached out to meapal last month to request a reimbursement since I need to wfh due to COVID and there aren’t any vegetarian options near my apartment.
They replied with a generic email stating their kitchens are open. I lost $60 that month because I felt it wasn’t worth my time to chase them.
Now my account has come off the hold I put and forgot to extend, so of course meapal punished me with another $100 something charge. Btw the meals from last month also didn’t rollover like I suspected, even though it’s a rollover plan.
So now I’ve emailed them again waiting for a response which I’m pretty sure is going to be “sorry, no”.
I’m hoping they’ll do the right thing- granted businesses are suffering but not all of us have the means to go around collecting meals without taking public transport and risking infection. If they still don’t reimburse I’m done with the service for good.
The headache it gives of dealing with their customer service is not worth the affordable meals.

AWFUL SERVICE!!!!
I had my account on hold as we are all working from home I took it off hold to see how to cancel meal pal as I have lost my job and they automatically charged me straight away.
No contact number to ring and explain - I have emailed so many times with no response.
HONESTLY DO NOT USE - they automatically enroll you every month - there are much better lunch apps out there. Surely they should not be using your bank details without permission

Company is a total scam. Enrolled me in a subscription service without getting my consent. Pretty sure that is illegal. The cancellation is hard and they refuse refund me or to remove my credit card details from their database which i believe is also totally illegal!!!!
Please stay as far away from the company as you can.

Total con, impossible to cancel subscription. Have emailed help @mealpal.com on several occasions to request cancellation and when they reply they simply refuse. MealPal should be shut down by the police

Mealpal has charged my account in the time when we are all supposed to be staying at home. It is repulsive. Also there is no functionality to cancel the subscription.
