vanishing captions

We find the contents fairly good.  Old recordings are no problem.  They often are by deservedly famous interpreters well worth listening to.  For music lovers good lessons of how a particular piece SHOULD be played, or sang.
We subscribed late in 2025.  We watch a lot of opera.  But we have BIG problems with the captions.  For operas, captions can be crucial.  We are OK in English, Italian or Spanish.  But, for Russian,  Czech, Finnish, Hebrew...   opera, captions are obligatory.
We start by setting the captions, in English.  After a while the captions disappear.  We stop, set the captions again. After a few minutes, again they vanish.  And after this has happened every 2-3 minutes, 10  times over, we give up.
Lots and lots of operas on YouTube.  WE don't  have this problem. In the Met streaming, no probelm.
Any   suggestions/explanation?????
Of course, I was more than surprised reading Medici's so very poor average of 2.5 out of 5 approval and the horrible comments about their arrogant customer service's response to complaints.
If we continue to have these problems with captions there is no way I'll renew my subscription.
For further aggravation, I tried to send this message to the email address they give for medici team's responses, but the address doesn't exist.

Dreadful

I subscribed after checking online that videos could be downloaded to my iPad for offline viewing. Within minutes of opening the app I realised that (incredibly) this is not the case. I immediately wrote to customer support explaining that I need to be able to view videos offline (plane journeys etc) but they have refused to refund me, have charged me for a full year and, despite not using the app and requesting a refund within ten minutes, are not willing to cancel my subscription and refund. Avoid.

Be careful for the annual subscription

Dear Medici.tv,

I'm writing to you desperate. Please refund the annual renewal on my account.

I used to be a musician. That life is over now—my career failed, I fell into severe depression, and I can no longer bear to hear or see anything related to music. I haven't used your service once since the renewal.

I'm financially destroyed. In debt. Struggling to afford food. Seeing this charge on my card broke me.

I know it's outside your policy, but I'm begging you. The reminder was being sent to my AppleID which I don’t even use as an email address. I need this money to survive. Please make an exception.

My AppleTV will not connect to my paid subscription. Customer Support was argumentative and completely unhelpful even when presented with screenshots and photos. Their go-to response was that it works. But, it didn't. Over and over again. Round and round. I wanted to love this service.

When I gave up, after spending hours and hours on this issue, I wanted a refund–which they refuse despite not providing the service I paid for. I had to reach out to my credit card company to reverse the charge. Research into this problem reveals this is a known issue for AppleTV and Roku. If you own an AppleTV, I personally would not recommend this subscription service.

A better alternative might be The Digital Concert Hall with the Berlin Philharmonic. They have a 4K video broadcast with lossless audio in Dolby Atmos. It looks and sounds stunning and works exceptionally well on an AppleTV with a Sonos Dolby Atmos surround sound system. Top tier!

Dishonest.

They charged my card over £100, despite sending no reminder.

When I contacted customer services, they refuse to refund this and lied about sending a reminder.

Be very wary.

poor replay connecting to TV

When I suscribed connecting to my TV to watch on a large screen was acceptable with only occasional buffering. Now it buffers/splutters all over the place the sound is fine but visually just so shaky its unwatchable. Maybe HDMI connections are not recommended but the this should come with a warning. Seems I am stuck with this until my subscription ends I am but very unlikely to renew. Its a shame because its a vast catalogue to explore. But much cheaper options ie Symphony work fine. Go figure....

*********** buyer beware**************
My wife purchase this service for her father in Colombia as a gift to watch the Opera. All of a sudden I get a charge from them for $149.00 I send them an email asking what is this charge. They say a renewal. We never renewed it. They say that they sent an email, to where, I asked. To the person you gifted the service to, not to the person that pays.
I asked to cancel they said it was 1 day over when you can cancel as well as we have no way to access it as we don't have the email.
The most disrespectful, unhonest company. Never use them as a gift for someone.

Need to log in each time is annoying

Medici TV has a lot going for it. There is a wide range of musical events available; the visual and audio quality is mostly good, and the discounted price is not unreasonable. The site as a whole is rather slow; items can take quite a while to load. The size of text could be larger.

Medici TV have changed their policy regarding the need to log in each time the programme is used. I first of all had a subscription 2-3 years ago which I allowed to lapse before starting again in December 2024.

I view on an LG Smart TV. With the previous subscription, once one had initially logged in, it was subsequently possible to use the programme without logging in again. Now, it is necessary to log in every time which when viewing on the TV and using the R/C to laboriously enter an email address and a password is very irritating.

I corresponded with Medici TV customer service over a period of several weeks regarding the log in problem. They were helpful but I got the impression they were not very knowledgeable about some aspects of the system. Initially they said that if I cast from a computer / iPad / phone it would not be necessary to log in each time. I couldn't understand why it was not possible to set up things as they were 2-3 years ago and I didn't want to cast from another device.

Things went back and forth for a while and eventually I was told that whatever method is used it is necessary to log in each time to allow Medici TV to recognise me as a user. I'm guessing this retrograde move is to avoid the possibility of people sharing a subscription. I can understand this to a degree but every other VOD programme I use does not require a log in each time.

I requested a refund of my subscription but it appears there is no cooling off period and my request was refused.

Shame on you Medici TV. You have put a black mark on what is otherwise a good programme.

Terrible video quality with constant drops in resolution making the picture unwatchable. Medici blames the customer when we know from experience that all our other VOD services are 100% perfect, including free services like Arte, DW and, from time to time, the Berlin Phil Digital Conccert Hall. Try to submit a complaint on their web site and see how far you get! Absolutely appalling service in every way.

UPDATE: I believe I have found a fix for the video quality. Using a VPN on Apple TV and connecting to a Paris server results in flawless video and audio. It seems that Australia is too far from France! I would now update my rating to 3 stars - subtracting 2 for the inconvenience and expense of using a VPN.

I have subscribed not that long ago and have before that relied on many free sources of opera and concert video. What makes this service of value is the superb picture quality but even more the excellent audio which at 320 is far better than the normal far lower level bit rate of free services and it makes all the difference. Also the overall production care and attention is also excellent and so I would recommend this for those of us who every so often want to enjoy luxury audio and video quality .

A very fishy company with terrible customer service. They automatically renewed me, after sending an email warning about renewal coming up that gmail sent to my spam folder, because they send so many emails. Anyway, contacted them less than 3 hours after they processed payment and asked for a cancelation and refund, and got nasty emails back just pointing to their user agreement and saying no exceptions. Would be easier to swallow if they had any decent content, but it's highly limited, of questionable audio-visual quality, and often dated. You can find a lot better quality for free on YouTube. Don't waste your money.

Terrific music, clunky technology

I am a new user of medici.tv. I have watched/listened to 60 programs thus far in all categories except ballet. Medici.tv does a marvelous job in musical content, and less well in technology, but better this than the other way around. There isn't an alphabetical list of anything. There are filters within categories, but the filters are arranged by number of programs (i.e., Verdi with 300+ programs is the first listed filter in the opera composer category, and somebody with only one program is the last in a very long list of opera composers; you need to guess where your composer of interest would fall in this distribution). The programs from which to choose are presented in the form of little pictures with basic information, ordered randomly, perhaps by date of acquisition. It is challenging to find anything a second time but any program that opens appears in your history list. Since there are only seconds between the end of one program and the beginning of the next, a lot of programs wind up in the history list that you really haven't listened to but they are in the list because you didn't make the switch fast enough. But you can assign programs to a favorites list, and then when you listen to them, you can remove them from the favorites list and they go back into the history list. This is not an optimal procedure but, on the other hand, the random sort and quick change features have resulted in my listening to things I never would have chosen to listen to otherwise. I subscribed for the music, and I'm getting lots of great music; dealing with the technology is just the price of admission.

Searching for music is difficult to impossible

I've subscribed for a couple of years. The content is limited. A lot of it goes back decades but it's good overall.

I haven't had the problems with the Android app that others report, and it works fine on my PC browser.

Also on the plus side, 25% and even 50% discounts on the annual rate are offered from time to time.

The reason I don't expect to resubscribe is that the search function is far too rudimentary. You can look for a composer, but good luck finding a particular piece by that composer. To do that, you'd have to look at the program for each individual concert feeling that composer.

BUYER BEWARE: Fraudulent charges by Medici.tv

This is a disreputable company that fraudulently charged me $149 for an auto renewal subscription without any prior notice that they were charging me. When I got an email from PayPal about the charges made to my account, I immediately contacted Medici to cancel the subscription and request a refund because I did not authorize the auto renewal. Their reply was a false claim that they had sent me an email a month prior alerting me of the auto renewal. I NEVER received that email. I did a full search of my entire inbox, trash, and junk folders. It never came. But still, this bogus company lied and claimed that they did.

Do NOT trust Medici.tv. They have terrible customer service, and their streaming platform is awful. I could never get it to work with AppleTV, and it had constant streaming problems with Roku where the stream would drop randomly, refuse to buffer, or display error messages when you tried to access a title. This whole experience was an appalling waste of money, and the fraudulent charges are the final straw.

Buffering / quality problems

We have subscribed to Medici.tv for a number of years and very much enjoy the content. However over the past month or so have noticed significantly increased buffering and/or degradation in quality. It comes and goes during the same performance so will start off in full HD and then become virtually unwatchable before going back again.

On full fibre with 500mbps download. No problems with any other service. Perhaps Medici could comment.
