Enjoyable break away

Stayed one night and we thoroughly enjoyed. The hotel is very old and dated but only added to the charm. We found the staff very friendly and the food was very good. The room was a good size with a large bathroom. Our rooms were very clean. Nice big carpark.
I have stayed a few times previously and will return.

I used the swimming pool

I used the swimming pool, steam room and sauna. The whirpool bath was out of order. The changing rooms were filthy, as were most of the public areas such as corridors and lounges. I found the staff unhelpful and dismissive of any complaints. Never again.

Excellent Christmas and New Year Stay

So I cannot fault the experience we have recently had at the Metropole. This definitely is the go to hotel in Wales.
If you book make the most of your stay by paying a small amount extra for an early check in and using the spa when you arrive. You can check in from 12.30 with early check in or 4pm with standard check in.
We had a 14 night stay over Christmas and New Year and i cannot think of a better way to spend the holiday period.
Our dogs had a great welcome too from Carlo the Deputy Manager, Natalie on reception and Gabie and Sylvia in the brasserie.
There is excellent ample parking out the back of the hotel. When you come in through the back head for reception past the Radnor Miles restaurant and down the corridor. Then past the lounge and reception is on your right. We were met by Natalie who had our keys reqdy for our check in and she gave our dog a small bag of treats for Christmas too.
The Christmas package included lunch on the package days and for the rest of the time we were in a dinner, bed and breakfast. The food quality at the Metropole is excellent and during our stay the hotel team in the restaurant and brasserie was superb. The service led by Gabbie in the Brasserie and Nicolletta and Viktorija was excellent too. No request was missed and believe me I have very particular dietary requirements. We had taken too much luggage (clothing) & Caroline head of housekeeping arranged for some extra storage for us.
Generally through the week, there are 5 menus to choose from during the evenings with an excellent choice to suit all diets. The brasserie offers even greater choice too.
Why not try out the spa? The pool, sauna and steam room are all great and relatively quiet during the day.
During the Christmas and New Year period the hotel had a few coach loads in BUT none of the guests suffered as a result of the hotel being full. Christmas lunch was amazing. It's the 3rd Christmas we have had there and it gets better and better. There is a massive lounge in the hotel which is perfect for relaxing there.
The hotel is undergoing a massive upgrade with new heating being installed in kost rooms throughout this month. The reception has recently been decorated and you know the quality of a hotel, just look at the flags outside the front of the hotel which are perfectly kept too.
The hotel is spotlessly cleaned by the team headed by Caroline.
I would not hesitate to stay there again. Indeed I am already booked in. 😀
Finally the team is led by Sam who leads from the top and has a very professional team working for him.

a bit of a mixture

i ordered a single room and got a double, some singles in our coach party got a super king size! room was large but dated with terracotta wallpaper and soft furnishings but clean enough. the bathroom was very modern and sparkly and shiny.
the meals were delicious though the portions of the starters were small. the staff were great working quickly and efficiently.
the hotel overall has been updated in communal areas but the hallways and bedrooms have not. i didn't like the energy saving lights which went off when i was looking for my key.
the spa was also a mixed bag - good solarium and sauna but the jacuzzi was freezing cold and i was shaking it was that cold. i didn't try the pool. the lockers are hard to use and the instructions have pealed off most lockers making it hard to understand but what disappointed me mostly was there was no-one there to provide services such as massages. this is why i chose the holiday and i'd had a full body wax in preparation for my massage which was a waste of time and money.

Room 135

Stayed in room 135 for a work conference and my experience was horrendous. The heating did not work, it was like an ice box being -3c over night, I had to sleep in my clothes. The window had a large crack in it. They then brought me a heater that did not work. Then the following morning scolded myself in the shower that had no cold water what so ever. The thermostat seems not to be working.

The windows could do with a really good clean, they look like they have not been cleaned for years.

Reported it to reception and all they said was sorry and seemed they could not really care.

I will not be staying for any future work stays here. I would rather drive the 2 hours home.

Christmas Lunch here

Christmas Lunch here, on Christmas Day, priced at £76.00 per head (excluding drinks) one would be forgiven for thinking this was going to be something special...Frankly everything from the service to the food was a disgrace. Two slices of cold turkey, two undercooked roast potatoes, one parsnip and one 'pig-in-blanket', served with cold, soft vegetables on the side and cold gravy...
A huge disappointment and shocked at the nerve of this establishment charging these prices for such a poor product - AVOID!

Don't stay here if you want to sleep

If you want somewhere to sleep for the night, don't go here. Poor mattress resulting in bad back. Out dated and dirty fittings and wall coverings. Very noisy resulting in no sleep, adjoining room extract fan on all night, it may as well been in our room-no sound insulation. Sleep in your car it will be a far better experience.

Deluded if you believe this is a four star hotel!

Really poor standard at this hotel.
I shall be writing to Visit Wales to justify their grading as this hotel absolutely does not reflect 4 star accommodation.
Rooms dated, service diabolical, international staff that really do not have a clue!
The hotel is clean but in need of updating.

Our room for two nights was awful.
The TV is set to a sound level which I completely agree is a good thing however, god forbid you get up to use the bathroom at night as the noise from the fan goes on for about half an hour and if you were watching TV at that time, you couldn’t hear the TV over the din of the bathroom extraction fan.

Four star hotels do not rush you beyond belief with your menu and courses, nor do they clear plates away when other people at the table are still eating.
This is basic hospitality training but at every meal this happened, including our themed nights menu.

Considering this hotel is in the heart of Wales there was nothing to even suggest you were in wales. Not one piece of information was in Welsh.
This has to be the only hotel I have ever stayed in that didn’t have bottled local water in the rooms and didn’t replenish the hospital tray each day.
Generic dispensing bottles of soap. No shower caps or nice toiletries. Honestly Ibis Budget hotels are better than this!!

We have been visiting this hotel for lunch for years but it’s time to move on.
It’s now part of a faceless chain that cater for coach parties, had no sense of place and lacks even the most basic understanding of being a large hotel in mid wales,

If you are reading this review thinking of booking a hotel in Wales, keep looking.
The food was OK, the staff lovely but it’s absolutely useless if everything else is lacking

Very tired and dingy hotel, not worth the price

We’ve stayed at this hotel quite a few times and have been quite satisfied, but this time when we stayed there with our car club we were very unhappy, we stayed in a room on the 3rd floor and it was extremely damp, condensation running down the inside of the windows, it was so bad that my husband was taken ill because of the cold damp room, when we complained to reception it took them 3 hrs to sort out another room for us, I think they only sorted it out because we told them that if they couldn’t find us another room we were going to go home and wanted our money back, we paid £800 for 4 nights full board, when they eventually found us another room it was like a broom cupboard, small and boxy, the hotel is very tired and in desperate need of a complete refit, it still had the same wallpaper and carpets as it did when we 1st went there 13 yrs ago,, we definitely will not be going back there ever again

A disappointing stay

Just cut short stay at this hotel. We knew this hotel in the past and booked on the basis of its past reputation as a Radnorshire institution of note . We found that the hotel was in a poor condition- tired, with worn out furniture and fittings and in need of a deep clean. The energy saving lighting made the place look even more dismal . I don’t know whether this was to cover up the state of the soft furnishings. Breakfasts were poorly presented and messy. The only bright spot was the brasserie a bright oasis in a sea of mediocrity.

Metropole hotel, Llandrindod Wells

Having just left the hotel this morning after a weekend away playing golf with a society that having been visiting and stopping at this hotel for over 20 years I sadly have to say I’ve had my worst ever visit at this hotel.
The hotel is very run down and in desperate need of refurbishment and the foreign staff in the dinning area are rude and ignorant. The food portions are much smaller and some of the food is of a very poor quality.
The biggest issue I have with the hotel is the fact that whilst I was there there was a girls youth rugby tour also staying at the hotel from Ireland. The girls 15/16 years of age were allowed to run riot up and down the corridors slamming and banging doors whilst shouting at the tops of their voices. Complaints were made about the first evening and the reception stated they would be dealing with it.
Again on night two we experienced the same issues with the girls being extremely noisy. I phoned reception to be told the manager will be made aware. Not happy with this response I got dressed and made my way past the girls to reception to be told they would sort it.
Today on checking out I spoke with the hotel manager who dismissed my complaint stating all he could do would be to apologise. He refused any kind of deduction from the hotel costs and rudely walked off to deal with another complaint.
This is by far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in and even worse in the way that they treat customers with a genuine complaint.
Steer clear of this hotel…. You have been warned.

Absolutely disgusting!!!!!!

Absolutely disgusting!!!!!!

My mum took me here on Easter Sunday for afternoon tea as it was also my birthday.
The afternoon tea is the worst afternoon tea ive ever had.
The whole thing had been made up at some point and been refrigerated, the cakes were all really cold & hard, the sandwiches were terrible, they were rock hard, awful fillings and tiny.
My mum had been told on the phone there would also be trifles and we didnt get any.
The service was absolutely appauling, there was no table set up for us when we arrived and then even we did get the afternoon tea, it was plonked on the table, we weren't given any plates, napkins or knifes as as we had scones how on earth we we supposed to cut them?!
The selection of cakes was very small and what was there looked like they were all shop bought and of the cheapest quality.
The afternoon tea cost £40 and wasnt worth even £10.
A complete and utter disappointment and waste of money!!!!
Will NEVER return there again for anything.

The hotel is very old and tired and is…

The hotel is very old and tired and is in need of a refurbishment. Some areas particularly the lift smell very bad. We inadvertently went down the fire stairs and found a rat trap on the stair nearby the kitchen!
The staff were polite and the breakfast was okay. The breakfast cups and glasses were ridiculously small, come on guys need a decent cup of tea in the morning. Room on 4th Floor was clean but very small. It was an expensive experience but it certainly wasn't great, don't think I'll be back again.

Let down by one man at checkout

Our stay was excellent nice relaxing atmosphere pleasant surroundings. On day 2 Our evening meal was unpalatable and was sent back and not replaced by our choice. I brought this up at checkout the next day with the man I belived to be a senior member of staff. His attitude was not the best and his only comment was I will tell chef. Not good enough for any guest to hear . This man on the front desk handled the complaint badly thus causing a very low rating.
