The worst bank in the world?

Easily the worst bank I have ever encountered - in an industry that is hardly renowned for ethical behaviour or high customer standards. The fees are insane - 30Euros per month for the 'private bank', plus 4.55 for the Visa card. For that you get a 'conseiller' whose name changes regularly, who knows nothing and is arrogant and borderline rude. Try closing your account (which is your legal right), and they obstruct you and then ignore the request, continuing to charge you those crazy fees in the meantime. In the end I transferred all my money out and destroyed my debit card. An utter disgrace.

I took out a mortgage with Barclays and…

I took out a mortgage with Barclays and never had a problem, then it was bought by MIleis. The continually sent me emails saying Ihad missed payments. It got so bad that I sent five years of my bank statements to prove I had never missed a payment. Milleis closed my account and sent my loan to the legal department of their bank. I am still paying this every month but receive no communitcation. When I was with MIllies I had no bank statements and no internet banking details. I have phoned Milleis and emailed dozens of times without a reply. I am trying to find the French ombudsman to try to sort this huge mess out. My bank asked me to get the references for the payments that Milleis said I have missed but as usual no reply. This is so stressful due to their incompetence.

Appalling customer service

Absolutely shocked by the experience with this so-called private bank. Felt more like dealing with a shady money operation than a professional financial institution. During my initial enquiry call, the staff showed zero knowledge of their own products and offers. They immediately started by asking how much I could "invest" (basically, how much I could keep in a non-withdrawal account for a few years), instead of providing any helpful information upfront.

When I asked about the bank’s requirements, the staff member had to keep dropping the call to check details without any explanation—just awkwardly disappearing and reappearing. After all that, I was finally told that despite asking me to keep a substantial amount in the account for at least 2-3 years, the interest rate would be a measly 0.5%—information I had to dig out myself.

When I politely declined and thanked them, the staff simply said, "You are welcome!" and hung up while I was still in the middle of my sentence—no "au revoir" or "bonne journée", which is just basic etiquette in France. I was genuinely taken aback. I've never expected exceptional customer service in France, but this was rock bottom, especially from a private bank. Now I understand why their reviews are so consistently terrible. Avoid at all costs.

If there was a zero I could

If there was a zero I would press it! This bank has arrogant staff! My son and I have banked with Barclays France since 2004 and when Millies took over there was no 'sorting customers out' ..we were all treated as high value clients...I am now a pensioner on limited income so no way have I ever been a high net worth person. At present I am in the process of moving my banking account to Britline but Milleis are ignoring our letter sent on the 29th September and will not transfer the significant sum we had in their bank (no interest etc but we are charged for a banking package despite not having a card or cheque book etc. I think Milleis should be closed down as so many clients are disillusioned with how their staff behave. I will be going to their ombudsman once I find out their details

Absence of contact from Milleis Banque

I have an account which was with Barclays Menton. Milleis took it over. The Banque has closed in Menton and who knows where else. I have received no communication as to where my account is now managed from.
I have now received an electronic message (text and email) saying I should contact them via my private space online. I do not have any online contact. I have not been told who is dealing with my account and cannot get any contact by telephone or email. I am therefore stuck. Jean Powell

Milleis not answering any communications since Sept 2023.

Milleis took over our Barclays account in Cannes, France. Since then they have been removing funds from our account without authority. Since 22 Sept 2023 not one person at Milleis Cannes will return any emails or calls, and at the same time they have threatened to close our account saying we have not confirmed our UK tax status which we have on multiple occasions. Milleis also have failed to provide the 'Tableau D’Amortissement' detailing the mortgage payments. We have contacted the CEO, M. Hubert, and await developments.

I have written a previous review

I have written a previous review. It was negative. I started at Barclays and ended up with Milleis.

Since pulling all my money out of Milleis, and sending two registered letters informing them of my decision, they continue to send me threats that they are going to block my account. Hello!?!

Sounds like no one is steering the ship.

As an aside I mentioned this to my French lawyer. He guffawed. Not at my experience but at the fact I am one of many who have had similar experiences.

It is know in the financial community that Milleis is not up to par. Not anywhere close. They are a joke. They bully you and present themselves as a private bank with good returns. Ha! I have never seen a private bank behave this way, I have taken my money elsewhere... Goodbye Milleis. If you have concerns about Milleis, my personal suggestion would be to get your money out RIGHT NOW!

Very poor

The website looks about twenty years out of date, it often goes wrong so I cannot make transfers. The fees are being hiked as branches close and service quality collapses.

Unable to access our accounts and money.

We were with Barclays when they sold out to Milleis. Since then the service has steadily worsened. We recently moved from France to New Zealand, change our mobile phone and number. Since then we have been effectively locked out from our accounts due to Milleis not updating our contact details and sending one time use codes to our old french mobile numbers. Our personal manager in Bordeaux does not respond to our emails or whatsapp messages and we can not access our funds in our accounts. We are desperate and very angry. AVOID using this bank.

Milieis the worlds worst bank.Surely…

Milieis the worlds worst bank.Surely the worst bank in history. We have been banking with Milleis since Barclays sold out and the service level from them has been appalling. They constantly blocked our internet banking throughout our house sale which caused us horrendous problems for no apparent reason. We wanted to pay a friend a large sum so they set a limit of far less than we wanted even though we had more than ample funds to cover this.No responses to emails, no contact details other than through the internet which they blocked. The most recent event was beyond comprehension!! Although we believed our account was closed Milleis accepted a direct debit 816.00 euros, we thought the account had been closed in August and in February of this year they advised us that this direct debit had been taken and they accepted it. We had already cancelled the direct debit which was presented by mistake and if Milleis had closed our account last August this payment would never have gone through. We had instructed them to close our account back in 2022 and despite following all their instructions we had confirmation today that the account has finally been closed.Numerous letters and emails have been sent to this most useless of banks. Someone from their office called and they then threatened us that if we did not pay the debt they would give our details to the bank of France and we would not be allowed to have a bank account in France again. They threatened to phone us every day until we paid the 816.00 euros. We had no option than to pay up.We have a completely clean credit record and never ever have been threatened by a bank before.Milleis the threatening bank! I intend to go on social media and make this public, I have all correspondence to back up my statement.

Milleis Bank's Lackluster Services and Inexperienced Banking Consultants

I have been a customer of Milleis Bank ever since it took over from the former Barclays France, and I must say that my experience with the transition has been far from satisfactory. As a longtime customer of Barclays France, I can't help but feel disappointed and nostalgic for the excellent services I once received.

One of the most frustrating aspects of my experience with Milleis Bank has been the lack of expertise demonstrated by their banking consultants. It is evident that they often assign inexperienced staff to handle important customer interactions. Whenever I sought assistance or advice on complex financial matters, I was met with consultants who seemed ill-prepared and lacked the necessary knowledge to address my concerns effectively. This has led to numerous instances of misinformation and confusion, leaving me feeling frustrated and uncertain about the reliability of the advice I received.

Moreover, the inexperience of these banking consultants is reflected in their inability to provide tailored solutions. I expected personalized financial guidance and recommendations based on my specific needs and goals. However, the consultants I encountered at Milleis Bank seemed to provide generic and superficial advice, lacking the depth and understanding required to meet the diverse needs of their customers. It is disappointing to entrust my financial well-being to individuals who are ill-equipped to provide the level of expertise and customized support that one would expect from a reputable bank.

Additionally, the lack of experienced banking consultants has contributed to a breakdown in communication and an overall inefficient customer experience. I have encountered instances where my inquiries and requests were mishandled or overlooked, leading to unnecessary delays and further frustration. It is disheartening to see a bank neglecting the importance of having competent professionals who can effectively communicate and understand the unique circumstances of their customers.

In conclusion, Milleis Bank's lackluster services and inexperienced banking consultants have left me deeply dissatisfied. The lack of expertise, tailored solutions, and effective communication has significantly hindered my ability to trust in their services. I believe that a bank should prioritize hiring and training experienced professionals who can provide the necessary guidance and support to their customers. Sadly, Milleis Bank falls short in this regard, and I am left disappointed with the level of service I have received.

MILLEIS - possibly the worst bank in France

We were originally with Barclays. It is now MILLEIS. The second worst bank I have ever dealt with (worst was Santander in Spain). MILLEIS wrote and asked us for four documents, one of them being our Spanish tax return for this year. It is not available until June or July. We told them this. So MILLEIS have blocked our account - we cannot now meet the terms they imposed on our mortgage - all income from the property was to go into our MILLEIS mortgage account. We are now overdrawn, and they still will not take the block off. They do not respond to emails (even the ones sent through its messaging system). Phone calls - not returned. We have no idea how this is going to end. They will not provide details of their Ombudsman.

Avoid at all costs

I repeat the comment about avoiding at all costs. Uncontactable unresponsive and unhelpful. Milleis is only interested in very rich customers and the customer service for anyone else appears to be zero. They completely ignored emails from the (french obviously) notaire. My adviser said that their conduct was extremely high handed and very unreasonable (even for a French bank - he was English). It is taking weeks to close the account even though they dont want it!

Avoid at all costs

Since Barclays sold to Millieis, this has become one of the worst bank in the market! Weeks and weeks to close an account, inconsistent communication, pathetic performance... Guess will have to go to court to get my money back. Anyone joining?

Poor customer service.......

We were transferred to this bank a while ago. The service is shambolic and the promises never materialise despite paying for English speaking services.

To close our account too weeks and weeks as the responses are so slow.

To date I am still waiting for copy statements promised on the 3 December 2022, surely it does not take that long to print something and send.
