They have ceased trading so no one else will get scammed

Had cavity wall insulation installed by Miller Pattison in 2009. They made a hell of a mess of our brickwork filling the holes with a darker mortar which made the house look ridiculous. Called them back to rectify and they were very aggressive and refused. Can’t remember who subcontracted them but complained to that company who did eventually sort it out for us. Now in 2024 our insulation has failed with 10 years left on guarantee. Miller Pattison have unsurprisingly ceased trading so have contacted CIGA. Have had the ‘send us proof of ownership’ email as described in a review below so the saga begins

Sold down the river by British Gas!

Sold down the river by British Gas!
I had cavity wall installation and loft installation done in 2009 as a British Gas customer at the time. Miller Pattison were the company sub contracted to do the work. I have recently had a leak and have been told by my surveyor that cavity fill insulation is bridging across from the external brickwork to the internals and allowing moisture to travel which is causing damp issues. I do have a guarantee certificate and have contacted CIGA to notify them of the situation. They do require the Land Registry Certificate but awaiting to hear from them and will send a copy separately. This has left me with a major problem as my Insurer will not carry out my refurbishment without me signing a waiver . I have been told that I need to carry out the necessary works to put this right. This situation has been very stressful. This company is no longer trading but the guarantee is covered by CIGA.

More Important News - on GIGA's use of (legal) delaying tactic...

We think we have a problem with CWI installed by Miller Pattison, but but found out they had been in administration etc... So wrote to the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Association.
Their response today - 3rd January 24, says:
'Following recent incidents of impersonating/identity theft, CIGA is becoming ever more vigilant in ensuring that we have secure measures in place to protect our guarantee holders'.....and states they need a copy of 'a Land Registry extract or mortgage statement'...and 'a copy of a utility bill' to 'make sure we are dealing with the homeowner about their property'....
The letter also states that '...before we can assist with you enquiry we require proof of ownership of the property'...and the obvious delaying tactic...!!
I was put on alert that they required me to send them details of my home ownership from Land Registry at all, as this is how people have lost homes by others obtaining information, then transfering the property into their own names, effectively stealing your home from under your feet...and nothing you can do about...!
I think this is a delaying tactic as in their letter they state 'we require proof of ownership'...
Anyone who has dealt with Land Registry may know, copy's you download on-line (Title register copy's) ARE NOT PROOF OF OWNERSHIP. This is clearly stated on the front of these documents...although many miss the fact.
To get actual 'PROOF OR OWNERSHIP' you need to obtain an 'OFFICIAL COPY OF REGISTER OF TITLE', which has you name(s) shown as owners... and is the only official proof of ownership...
CIGA of course do not state this in their letter...but you know what's going on...when you send them a copy of the 'Title Register' you downloaded from Land Registry which is not an 'Official Copy of Register Title, you will most likely get a letter back saying sorry, we cant accept your document as its not actual proof that you are the homeowner... Dead Cunning tactic is it not...!!
Trouble is, getting hold of an 'Official Copy of Register' is not easy due to changes the way Land Registry will accept payment...and the cost of an 'Official Copy of Register' costs £7 (not £3)...if you can fight your way through the procedure to order one that is...
Before Land Registry payment changes, you could order and pay on-line...Now only registered businesses can do this if they obtain a Variable Direct Debit arrangement with Land Registry via a detailed application process... You can still order an 'Official Copy of Register', but it has to be done by post, and payment is only by Cheque or Postal Order, you cannot use direct debit or credit card, and also need to complete an application form. So why make things easy when you can complicate the hell out of it...
No doubt CIGA are smiling like cheshire cats as they turn away and delay people from getting what their Guarantees entitle them to...by using this ploy!
So, to help out I'm supplying some info to guide you in the right direction... So, if you get a letter from GIGA and need proof of homeownership, and want to avoid the delaying tactic, follow the advice below:

1) Go to the land Registry site and download the document
'Paying for HM Land Registry services by variable Direct Debit' - I cant provide the link as its not allowed.
2) Read the document so you understand the process, then go to page 15 and print-off and complete the form to regsiter with land Registry to pay for what you need by direct debit...
3) Order your 'Official Copy of Register of Title - phone Land registry if you can to get the latest info on doing so - Customer Service at HM Land Registry Head Office is 0300 006 0001.
4) Once Land Registry have processed your your form and taken payment, you will get your 'Official Copy of Register of Title' in due course, by post or via an email link.
5) I suggest you you forward any official copies of paperwork to CIGA by Royal Mail and use a service that gets a signature for receipt etc...
6) sit back and await CIGA's response to see ikf they have another delaying tactic up their sleeve, or will actrually do something...
Hope this was of help to those finding themselves in the same boat...

They have made a mess of our home

They have made a mess of our home by putting unsuitable (cheap) filling into the cavity in 2009. BUT if you would no longer trust them to put insulation in would you trust them to take it out? That catch 22 question . The Company House reports is that they have not submitted their accounts. Ae they still in business? If so WHY? I need someone reliable to remedy the damage and cannot see any financial redress in prospect. At 89 after a lifetime in Health Care serving others my faith in others is destroyed and I can no longer fight.

Cowboys!

Cowboys!
Rumped a hole in the wall that wasn't needed, as there was adequate ventilation. Made a complete mess that took hours to clean up. Then said it was up to me if I filled it in again. No warning, no preparation. Half job done installing insulation. Never filled half the holes the drilled and then suffered wasp nest infestation as a result. Agressive when complaint raised. Even more aggressive when only part payment made until complaint dealt with? Which it never was.
DO NOT USE this shower of complete COWBOYS.

IMPORTANT NEWS for customers of Miller…

IMPORTANT NEWS for customers of Miller Pattison who have problems with Cavity Wall Insulation this company installed in their property. The High Court ruled on 19th Aug 2021 Miller Pattison has been reinstated after a claimant won her case. Which means Miller Pattison is an active
company. The Director is also a Director of other companies which install CWI & Plumbing. Go to Companies House webcheck all information is there. Do not allow Miller Pattison to fob you off the woman who deals with complaints is very well trained in the art of following Miller Pattison's instructions on how to offer as little as possible or in fact nothing. Dont accept her offer go straight to the top and refuse to accept responsibility for the work they carried out which has resulted in damp, wet, mould, health problems at your property. Remember you have a 25 years guarantee given by CIGA from the date of installation. Don't give up continue to pursue. your complaint. Maybe we start a campaign through the courts to be treated with respect for what we are entitled too. Or go to GMB or Rogue Traders to let them investigate Miller Pattinson and it's Director.

I've been made aware of installs that…

I've been made aware of installs that have been nothing short of vandalism and not compliant with basic BBA cert/building regs.
They went out of business and in the same month re-registered as a BBA/CIGA compliant installer under the name of Novora Building services who seem to be mandated by CIGA to do inspections on damp properties done by Miller Pattison. At the time of administration their chairman was on the CIGA board. The whole things sounds like boys club.

They are an absolute disgrace

They are an absolute disgrace! I have moved into a property, to which I have discovered the previous owner contracted this bunch of cowboys for loft insulation. Only to discover that they have thrown rolls of insulation in the storage eaves and loft and haven’t even bothered to unroll and place between the joists. And further to that, they are 200mm short of the standard requirement. So they have essentially ripped off an elderly, infirm widow of her money and no doubt thought she’d never inspect the workmanship. Bunch of cowboys and if it wasn’t for the fact that she passed away, I’d strong encourage her to seek legal action. SHAME ON YOU.

Eleven years ago they put cavity wall…

Eleven years ago they put cavity wall insulation in my home. I only wish that I could include the photographs of the mess they made to my home. Their local supervisor came to inspect the damage to my walls, removed some of the offensive materials before disappearing for another eight weeks. They eventually sent a self employed man to remedy the work, he was looking for extra business, with an aggressive attitude and I had to threaten him with the police to get him to leave my home. My advice is if you are considering dealing with this lot- VERY MUCH DON'T !!!!!!!!!!!!

cavity wall insulation was supposed to…

cavity wall insulation was supposed to have been removed in 2009, one man with a metal rod removed bricks at the base of our property and spent 3 days poking about. We still had major problems with damp. Called Miller Pattison in January 2018, they said they would remove a small amount of insulation left in the base of cavities, and this despite them having no record of the extraction!! We have had to get extraction done at our own cost and so far they have removed 2 large sacks of insulating material and still loads to go. So, thank you Miller Pattison for your honesty and integrity, NOT!!!!

Terrible customer service

Miller Pattison carried out cavity wall insulation in our property in 2006 we purchased it last year and we suffered from penetrative damp. Damp proof specialists stated it was the insulation causing the damp but they won’t accept responsibility. They should’ve issued a 25 year warranty and registered it with CIGA but they didn’t but won’t accept they’re in the wrong. Don’t touch them !
