Teacher (Shay) is very engaging, my daughter just loves her and the class. The children get to sing, run around and dance, very flexible but they also tend to follow the classes well.

Disappointing

We were disappointed with the communication. Our sessions were cancelled a couple of times which was just bad luck but when we attended another session elsewhere, we hadn’t been told it wasn’t on that week - it’s hard work getting toddler twins out the door so that was frustrating. When we did eventually get to a session in Moonee Ponds, my autistic twins were pretty overwhelmed at their new environment and unfortunately the woman running the session was less than accommodating of that. We were made to feel like the “naughty” people of the group and subsequently left early, feeling quite dejected.
We were also required to bring our own instruments due to COVID, but on the day we forgot, there was no alternative offered. I think it was poor value for money based on that - so we won’t be signing up again.
We left before term end and were refunded a portion of what we paid.

EDIT: I don't think 'we're sorry you believe you were made to feel bad" is an appropriate response. My nanny came home feeling awful - so that's not up for dispute. I'm sure that was not your teacher's intention. Nonetheless, it was the effect she most certainly had, experience or no experience.

I also understand the concept of not sharing instruments during COVID, as I mentioned in my review. I suppose if you read between the lines I was in fact questioning the costs of the program, the obvious venue hire and program instructor wage aside.

Thankyou for suggesting at this point in time two adults come next time - I suppose my feedback to you on that note is that you mention that to parents of twins or higher order multiples in future, because it didn't seem to be an issue at the initial class in Ascot Vale. Bad luck to the girls for having working parents huh!

I hope that other parents and carers don't have the same experience we did.

Thanks for seeking our review Mini Maestros.

We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed and that your twins were unable to enjoy a class.

We are very diligent in our communication; all details regarding enrolments and classes (including cancellations and any class changes) are emailed as required once confirmed and records are kept on the student and class files within our enrolment system. We also have one on one communication in class with the teacher and also follow up after class for new students by phone.

After your twins had an unsuccessful first class at their first venue no arrangements had been confirmed with us to try an alternative class. Unfortunately the twins’ nanny brought them to Moonee Ponds without them being booked in and on the week before a class for the relevant age group was starting. Our teacher spoke with the nanny and confirmed with her that a suitable class would be starting the following week and that she was looking forward to seeing them then.

When the twins and nanny arrived for class the following week they were overwhelmed by the new environment. Your nanny did the right thing by standing to the side with them in the pram to allow them to observe from a distance and give them the chance to settle. But it became clear the twins were becoming increasingly distressed in the new situation without being able to be physically held and comforted as they adapted to the classroom environment. We are sorry you believe you were made to feel bad, but this was certainly not the case, and the circumstances of a child taking a while to settle are not uncommon. Our teacher spent some time talking to the nanny one on one while the rest of the class was involved in an activity. Our teacher suggested to the nanny that she might find things more manageable if she brought an extra adult along for the initial weeks so that each child had someone to provide physical support while they were familiarising themselves with the class experience. The teacher and the nanny both agreed it was apparent the twins were not going to be able to settle as things were.

We are taking our obligation to keep our classrooms safe under our COVID-Safe Plan very seriously and regret that this does mean that there can be no sharing of instruments.

We did provide you with a goodwill refund for all classes not attended, including the class when the twins left early in the lesson, due to the exceptional circumstances.

We understand that all children react to new situations in different ways and that clinginess or even some some tears is very common in the first class or two while children build confidence in the group setting. Our teachers have lots of experience and success helping young children settle in to classes and are used to assisting carers who bring more than one child. We are sorry that on this occasion that there wasn’t a successful outcome. We hope that in the future the twins can return, ideally with two adults for the first weeks, until they settle.

Review

Great sessions, however given we go to the Saturday morning sessions, it would be great if on days when the teacher is sick, an emergency replacement could be organised. This avoids multiple sessions being cancelled during the term.

Thanks for your comments about our classes at Ascot Vale, Rosie is a great teacher. In the difficult circumstances the whole community is in we are so grateful that we have been able to get back into the classroom in Term 2 (except for the short lockdown in Victoria and the complications brought by the restrictions easing but requiring reduced class numbers) and for the overwhelming support of our customers. Our COVID-Safe plan of course requires that anyone who is sick – including the teacher – can’t be in the classroom, and unfortunately we don’t have an unlimited supply of our highly trained and passionate teachers. We wish we did! The most important thing is continuity in the fun and learning for our students and that is why you received our Term 2 Online Course with your enrolment – for each Term this year we are having this in place as a back up. We are also planning a bonus in-person class with Rosie during the holidays. Everyone is learning to live with the current circumstances – however long they last – and we are doing the very best that we can to be there for our students. 🐝💕🎶Mini Maestros
