Misspent Summers is a cycling media company and store producing and selling books, photo prints and merchandise from the world of mountain biking and two-wheeled good times. The company is UK-based but has a worldwide pool of contributors, staff and followers. >>We love love love bikes and we are passionate about our products. We try our best to make everything to the highest standards using humans, small producers and responsible manufacturing while being as transparent as possible. >>After making our first downhill yearbook (Hurly Burly) in 2016, we went on to make an enduro yearbook (The World Stage) the following year, as well as several other projects including Eskapee Anthology, Downtime EP and Spent (about everything we think makes mountain biking great). We now sell our books, magazines, zines, clothing and merchandise worldwide and enjoy our relationship with a core group of fans and supporters who help us keep creating cycling media and products. >>Our newsletters are circulated for free and include news, views, opinions and rumours from the world of mountain biking. While we are massive fans of high-level racing and our yearbooks are the core of our business, we care about promoting mountain biking and cycling as fun, not too serious, a friendly community and adventurous – that's why we make Spent and why you'll find lots of fun (we think) stuff on our social media channels and in our free-to-view YouTube films like Tea & Biscuits and Cosmic. >>Anyway! Enough rambling. Every review, good or not so good, helps us understand and improve what we do so thank you in advance for taking the time to leave a note. >>To hear from Ben and James, the founders and chief distractionists, listen to their recent Downtime Podcast episode here: https://youtu.be/cZpRk-AHMDg

Quality written mtb publications.

Great publications written by knowledgable, passionate people who have been covering this sport for a long, long time.

One of the last great bastions of quality mtb print media which isn’t just adverts and reviews trying to seek you kit.

The world stage chronicles

The books I've purchased from here have been second to none, the pictures alone are with the price, but the extra articles within really to make these books stand out. The history captured is outstanding

Thank you for the kind words and for buying the books – glad to hear you enjoy the articles as much as the reporting. We're hoping to keep improving the features as we really enjoy that part of the books too. Cheers

Quality

I keep going back to past Hurly Burlys. They’re just so good. Can’t wait for this year’s! I’m glad someone is keeping mtb print alive.

Family tradition

We buy our son the Hurly Burly every year it’s actually a family tradition. A great coffee table book for him and one his mates love to read when visiting. The artwork is as good as the photography and creates a mag presented with refreshing design

Awesome folks

I’ve purchased and read their yearbooks (Hurly Burly and The Worlds Stage), as well as their project with Downtime Podcast in the Downtime EP. Amazing print products that keep the stoke high for riding, particularly during the off season when I can’t ride as much.

The yearbooks track the sport so well, but aren’t textbook in their delivery with only numbers and stats (those are good for something, but not my favourite thing to read)

Their softgoods are always incredible (albeit shipping to Canada isn’t cheap, but such is life), and Tea and Biscuits AND Tea and Biscuits 2?!?!? Come on. That stuff was great. Awesome folks, putting out countless awesome products.

Misspent Summers and the Hurly Burly annuals

Misspent Summers’ Hurly Burly books are beautiful, well made, and really capture the feeling of the downhill World Cup. The season isn’t complete until we get our copy! Also, their customer service has been consistently excellent.

I found Hurly Burly in one local store here in Slovakia. And I immediately fall in love with that book. Ordered one next day. ☺️
Stunning photographs, great articles and absolutely fantastic. Must read, must have for everyone who likes the spirit and life style of mountain biking.

Great MTB print magazine

This publication (DowntimeEP) has rekindled my love for print. It sets itself apart in that it was deliberately developed for print in a digital age, and not merely trying to survive being in print like most other print MTB magazines still out there. The guys at Misspent Summers have seen where digital publications have gaps, and thoughtfully and purposefully created a print magazine that is a joy to read, hold, and flip through. Something you can take your time with and think about, in a world that is go go go all the time. Received my subscription as a gift, and I’ll happily renew it going forwards.

Boyos done good

The quality of the product is second to none. The book itself uses a wonderful paper stock that feels nice in your hands and a reassuringly comfy weight.
The images are some of the best content from photographers all over and the articles are well written, thought out and presented.

The best thing is NO ADVERTS well from what I recall, I don't remember seeing any anyway.

Honestly it's that good. I don't know what else I can say. Trust them and they will provide top quality reading a reference material interspersed with images you will stare at.

Top job.

Thank you for this in-depth review! Great to know you noticed the details like the paper stock and weight (they are the small things we lose a lot of sleep over).

There is some advertising in certain books (such as Hurly Burly and The World Stage) but we limit the number of ads as we never want to take away from the product itself. The ads do help us keep the price down for customers though and we're grateful for the industry support :)

Thank you again. Cheers

Hard working Creative people

I Bought 'Meltdown', a book covering the 2020 Mountain bike race season and instantly fell in love with the company, would love to support them as much as I can but shipping prices to Australia add up.

Excelent customer support

Excelent customer support: I ordered a book with shipping to Germany and for some reasons I could not pick it up in time (my fault) so it got sent back to the UK by my local parcel deliverer. I wrote them and they shipped it again free of charge and even added a nice gift inside! The books itself are well worth the money. You can feel that these guys love Mtb with their full heart.
